How to know if it's the oil filter Gasket housing or the cooler????
Saw this on my first oil change, my heart nearly stopped. Hahaha.
Lol i had a miscarrage
Dude you are a King among men👑 I just moved to Nebraska from Cali and saw this for the first time when we had a cold spell the past couple weeks. My heart nearly stopped bc I thought my head gasket was done😂 thank you for sharing this wisdom ❤️
I can sleep tonight thanks man
Same, THANK YOU
Amen.
I won’t be sleeping tonight thanks man
Dudeee!!! Sameeeeeeee
Samme !!
Dude I love you!! This happened to me today. Was about to make calls to have it scrapped but saw this video. Went for an hour drive. Got home. Clean as a whistle. THANK YOU!
Scraped?lol settle down
Damn, straight to the scrap-yard if she doesn't perform right eh?
Thank you so so much for this video. I just did a radiator swap, replaced 2/3 hoses, my thermostat, my coolant cap, my coolant reservoir, & even my bleeder screw, & I cleaned my oil cap during the process of some sludge that was built up, & I’ve only drove it twice since the swap because I had a leak & had to fix my temperature sensor cause the o ring went bad so I just replaced the whole thing & I just checked my oil cap & freaked out instantly cuz I just put $500 or more into the cooling system. So this video relieved me so much as my commute to work before this swap is strictly short drives as well (9 miles) so me cleaning the cap must’ve made it to where moisture could build up cuz I did see some little tiny moisture dots. So thank you, imma take my car on a long drive since I haven’t ina month or two & hope it goes away!
Thank you VERY MUCH for this video. I just got my first BMW X5 E53 3.0i two weeks ago, and I got extremely upset when I was checking the oil cap today, but after watching your video I feel much better now. Thank you for letting us love our BMW more.
I just had my X5 do the same, going to clean the cap and drive see what’s the issue.
Man thank you so much for cleaning this up, I just bought the car and did the oil change, then the water residue appeared on the cap, didn't have chance to drive it yet but now I'm taking it for a long one
Man you literally saved me from a heart attack
Had a momentary freak out, I just bought a 2006 550i and totally spaced looking at the oil cap till after I got it home. Feeling relieved I didnt play myself
I havent driven my E46 M54B25 in months, only the occasional start ups to keep the oil circulating. This video has given me some hope! Never knew this was an issue on these engines. Thank you for helping me sleep tonight haha
I parked my mitsubishi pajero for three weeks only move it out the driveway once or twice a week i check the oil and it had this funny kind of milky oil same on the oil cap!! I completely freaked out! No white smoke 💨 coming out the exaust pipe and no missfires! Drove itfor 30 minutes and oil is clean! Check next day and coolant level is good and oil is still clean! Turned out moisture got inside the engine through condensation!! I felt my soul came back to my body! I quote a head gasket job on Mitsubishi Pajero 3er generation is about a $2000 job!! Great video thanks!! I know is about BMW but it also applies to other bands as well!!
Yea my old durango did this during the cold. It was because the oil filler was plastic and long enough that it didn't get warm enough to drive off the mositure. No harmful effects other than it not looking normal. It looked more like the crema from an espresso.
Thanks man, I just had this out of nowhere and I indeed freaked out. i had the car standing for a month and I just warm it up for few minutes and had a short trip, which matches exactly what you described
correct condensation............ but you "should" always keep an eye on it
I wasn't freaking out..I was getting angry 😡
Checked that my oil level has slightly increased, but the coolant hasnt gone down, checked the cap and there it was, a little bit of milky residue, totally freaked out, but i havent been driving the car much past week and it has been quite cold, hopefully its just a mix of level sensor being weird and not driving much, last thing i need! Had the oil filter gaskets replaced recently so also a posibility that they went, but nothing makes sense at this moment. More monitoring needed, but your video will definitely allow me to sleep tonight.
OH THANK YOU, I was freakin out over the thought of my headgasket being blown
one billion% agree olso when u are in a very cold winter and do short drives that will happen cuz of the short drives plus the super cold weather even the oil light could come up.
Great video man! It seems as though our cars take quite a while to warm up (10-15min) on a cold start. Also congrats on 20k! Can't wait to see this channel grow even more!
Yeah, I did a radiator swap & was scared cause I replaced EVERYTHING & my air wasn’t getting warm then finally after 15-20 minutes of sitting it finally started getting warm lol
All the way from Boston saying thanks brother and great video explaining 👏 saved me from a heart attack, just purchased a used x5 few months back and saw this now and freaked out. Thought I got scammed 😂.
I saw that on my mercury mountaineer v8 7 years ago i was on panic i decide drive the suv till it die then 7 years later and 278 miles truck still driving strong with 0 issues
My coolant is still well above the min after a year of owning the BM so looks like it's condensation, as I do 10 minute drives at a time and leave it sitting for a week.
this is why at least monthly you should do a Italian tuneup
Thank you , my mechanic wasn’t helpful telling it’s the head gasket and it’s only a matter of time before it starts overheating,
Or a matter of time before you drop a load of money for nothing
I just picked up a 2007 BMW 328i and attempted to drive it home on Christmas Eve. I bought it from an auction and all seemed well. I then picked it up today and when I started it, the engine was knocking. I drove it and went to the gas station and added one quart of 5W-30 Full Synthetic. I noticed the milky oil cap but also a little milky color on the part that I could see inside the engine. I drove it home and only got a mile or so down the highway. I had noticed that I had no heat. Then my yellow temp light came one. Then the red temp light came on and the car slowed down. I limped to the gas station. I had to run a red turn light because the car was violently shaking at a full stop. I called a tow truck and that has been my Christmas Eve. When I popped the engine, I didn't think the engine was all that hot. I unscrewed the coolant lid and a little steam and pressure came out, but nothing too much. Since the container is black, I'm not 100% sure, but I think it's water in the coolant bottle. Can anyone direct me on what to check from here? Thanks in advance!
: “Thank you so much for the great video! I have a question: Is it possible for the car’s temperature to keep rising after the fix?”
Big relief for me, I noticed this today when checking the oil on an e46 I bought 3 weeks ago and nearly died. I only do literally 10 minute runs to and from work so I need to do a good run and check again. Thanks for the video...
Have you fixed your problem
Totally wasn't sitting here on Christmas eve putting together a shopping cart on FCP after checking my cap in the cold.... thanks again man
this literally happened to me today too man! Hoping its just my short routes i take
@@adrik824 literally starting a test drive rn after cleaning injectors and servicing all the fluids lol
I just bought a bmw 135i with the n54 and I’ve had it for 4 days and I seen that milky stuff on the cap and I about died. Good to know that it’s nothing serious and I can sleep tonight🙌🏽🤙🏽
Jordan Stephenson Same in here,i see today on my N54 oil cap it was just same like he shows on the video, not much just a bit😏
Dude thank you so much I was freaking out but after watching this I can sleep well tonight
Great video! First time hearing about this issue actually.
Thanks i was about to put my 135i for $1500. I fixed yestarday after 10 months and i check te oil cap and saw that milky oil.
True on all points! however it you pull the oil dipstick and you see the same? youre SOL pay 1000's to fix'r or ditch'r
BMW 550i The yellow substance has the consistency of a thin grease or a mayo. It is on the walls at the top of the oil filler tube and on the inside of the cap.It appeared when the car was hot and after 7 hours of driving. at 70 mph. It was not there before the trip. Ideas?
My coolant light came on today, so I took it to Halfords to buy some coolant. When I took the coolant cap off I noticed the coolant in there was milky.
My car is a 320D M Sport 2012.
I only have 50k miles on the clock.
The guy at Halfords said it could be the head gasket. I’m freaking out right now.
Dan M
please by the love of god tell me how that turned out! I have had genuinely the same exact same issue and experience today, same car too, bmw 320d 2010. And The guys in Halfords. They said the same.
@@knightofni4274 Well the guy at Halfords said it was Milky. However when I got home, after a bit more research online, someone said the float is white, which makes it look milky. So, I lifted the bonnet again and double checked. It was the float. The light came on as the coolant was low.
Halfords guy did not know what he was on about.
Okay thanks bro. I’m pretty sure it’s not the float tho. you could put it into a glass and mistake it for that cow titty juice.
@@dm5716 mate its Halfords, the people that work there are idiots lol i wouldn't let them change a battery let alone ask them anything hahaha best cure i had for my 1 series was to sell it ;)
What about if the oil is milky on the cap and smoke from tailpipes but it was milky when I checked oil filter housing
My coolant is Milky in E82 118D I’m typically doing 20 minute journeys, some times longer sometimes shorter. No sign of condensation. In the oil resovoir. Is this my head gasket? Car booked in but not for another week. Slightly concerned
it would be nicer if there was an upgrade for those plate exchangers. Such as conversion to an oil radiator so that you do not cool the oil with cooling water as it is now.
I had the same problem with creamy oil in the valvecover but the fault with my BMW was that the air/fuel mixture was incorrect. it ran way too rich on fuel. i adjusted the AFM and drove the car as usual for a month and the problem was gone.
Can you explain better please ? I don’t understand what one thing has to do whit the other one not trying to prove you are wrong I just have the same issue
when i first saw it on my e36 i was like what, i never overheated it, was getting ready to tear down the head
Bmw M3 e46 me too, 1st thought, "shit craigslist got me!" See u over at menaces bro
Mike B lol you talking about m3nsce? The e36 God
Lmao just saw my e36 m50 cap just now was alittle milky aswell... almost had a heart attack... Have "only been starting her up" for a few minutes ever since lock down
I ended up doing a coolant flush then bleeded the coolant 1 time with distiller water , now my question is was that enough to clean it ?
I have oil in my coolant reservoir how do I start the cleaning process or what can i do
Literally just finished changing my oil filter housing gasket, caught a leak. Hopefully nothing mixed. I will change out the oil just in case. Coolant in the reservoir looks normal
KingCatovic mines toasted,I've got some of it spurting a couple drops onto my valve cover.
I've got the gaskets just need a 1/4 e10 torq
123456bmx what engine are you working with?
In my e36 i noticed it the engine takes water from radiator and the oil is mixed with water and it's much worse than yours and it heats and it turns off
I was like wtf, dam it I'm selling it.🤣😂🤣 good info
Ok i need help pleaseeee what does it mean when there is a little puddle of oil outside of that cap? What could be the problem??
I have a white milky residue on my oil filler cap? I I have a e46 330ci with 240k km which I have just purchased and have already put a significant amount of money into. I only drive like 5 mins to work and back mainly. My car hasn’t overheated according to the temp needle on dash. Outside temp has been around -30 degrees C to -8degreea c for last week or so. Would this be condensation like in the video or head gasket? How else would I know if it is the head gasket.
That intro though!! Good info too, I've been seeing this issue in the 335i groups.
Yep, which is why I figured to bring it up here 😀
It’s been a few years since I’ve seen it asked so much lol
I was getting this on my Volvo... Really scary. But yeah, I use it for short drives and few times a week.
Thank you for this video bro
My goodness, thank God I watched this. Thought I got a blown head gasket.
Yeah, my commute to work is 4 miles, oil temp doesn't even move by the time I get there... most of the time I get to work 10-15 min early to let it idle and get somewhat warm. I have seen the milky stuff, but it goes away.
So if there's milky oil on the oil cap but not on oil dipstick...I'm good?
A blown head gasket would be accompanied by white sludge on the dipstick, coolant loss, sweet-smelling smoke from the exhaust, and power loss.
Beemers LOVE to be revved - take it for a nice long blast once a month to boil the fog out of it ;).
...what dipstick?
I have very litle white like milk on oil cup but dipstick is totally clean I have white smoke from exshoust on cold start but as soon it warm up I do not see anything And my OBD tool show glow plugs short circuit I have no idea what thats mean.
Thank you for your video,
All the best from the Manchester Uk -)
do you think replacing my PCV for cold weather version in my E46 should solved this issue? since i'm working close to home and walking at 3:00am doesn't look good idea...
I have vw golf mk5 my same problem smome from tilepipe when its gwt warm up the smoke gone and I use OBD show glow plugs I was scare thst there is problem with head gasket but head gasket is fine.
I found a manual tran swap 800$. Is the gear this cheap??? And how much the workshop will charge me for the swap ?
i have a m54b20 and i just checked my dipstick and i have a small amount of that milkshake, is my engine done?
If theirs a little bit off oil in my coolant does this apply😂😂the oil isn’t mixing though
What about "the milkshake" in my PCV and Crankcase Vent Valve?.. I have a rough idle so I started with these two parts to see if that would help and I noticed white sludge.
Thank you very much for this video cause i was worried think my car just blown out a gasket
I have some sort creamy/sludge on coolant cap never seen this before had 6 cars, just brought the ford today not sure if been sitting there for couple months and also odd bubbles inside of plastic
Yes this happened on my audi b8 s4. Was worried but then again it never warms up and is sitting.
I just recently today had to clean the coolant because thats exactly what happend to my coolant box it had oil in there. I took it to the shop and they fixed the oil housing filter gasket and i used it for a couple days then i started to smell some coolant when i would drive but it wouldnt over heat. So i was checking the coolant level it was pretty low and with oil in there.
I think I have the same problem
Was the oil housing gasket the cause?
In my case i was losing coolant 1 full reservoir per day and misfiring and got the same result on the cap. Dip stick is ok. Dont u think this might be an actual indication of gasket just beginning to give away. Btw no trace of leaking coolant in the engine bay area.
Brilliant thanks, I've stepped into this and I have huge relief sir 😊
Thanks for the video. I was panicking when I saw the latte colored motor oil. I've been driving short distances the past month and its cold so that could be it. Also, there is no latte in the coolant reservoir, so there's that.
I will keep investigating.
My wife is talking about trading the car immediately 😂 thanks for the video. Hopefully this is the issue.
So if i did have said condensation on oil cap and drove it for about an hour it would go away?
Hi, i have a 2010 328i bmw. I Have oil in my coolant, I've take my car to several shops but no one can give me a definite answer. Lately it's been sounding rough as well too.
Recently. I had the housing gasket replaced due to a leak.
Shortly after the oil in the coolant was discovered.
Took the vehicle to have a coolant flush but a month later, there is still some oil in the coolant.
I don't know what to do anymore
Yesss this is my bmw problem everyday and i thought maybe i wouldn't change the gasket because it would be combletely useless
In my BMW 3 series i have oil in my coolant tank
What is the issues can you please explain
Thanks man. Great video
Thank you 🙏 very much..! I was freaking out..!
I have this but even when I drive it doesn’t inverse or decrease ( milky colour )
not only on bmv
My b6 done same tonight cos I m driving lik 3km to work and after shit home like don't havit long drive
I have a 2007 n54 I have noticed my car has been getting the low coolant code two times in one month both 2 weeks apart and each time there was nothing in the coolant tank I have topped it off each time and haven’t seen any leaks what so ever am I burning coolant? There’s no white smoke coming from my car but I get smell an odd smell when Im driving the car driving more aggressively sometimes.
Any info on clean oil and milky coolant on a 2000 323ci its been sitting for some time
I have a 96 328is E36, and I changed the fan clutch, thermostat, but my temperature gauge is a little passed the middle. Should I change the water pump? What do you recommend?
Thermostats come in different temperature.....
Some engine blocks run hotter than other ....
If in doubt , yes you can change the water pump and have checked the whole cooling system...
The correct oil type and oil level and correct working oil cooler .
Water temperature sensor ...
Sludge , ( heater , full open and set to hot )..observe.
Never allow the engine to overheat !
i have slight ammount of white stuff under my oil cap like very litle, i dont do short drives so im still kinda freaking out after this video, i have noticed that the car warms up very slowly its currently about -15c (5f) so could that cause that?? last oil change was like 2000km ago so i dont think its about that. (there is no water on dip stick) i drive e39 help pls :,(
But my e36 has the milky oil. And. High pressure in radiator hose. And it just over heated. First time after new radiator.
I've got a question for you, if my car is smoking a ridiculous amount passenger turbo side and the oil cap and head is super milky what would you look at first?
Just drive for 30 minutes? Mine is heating in like 5 minutes and wouldn't turn on while it's hot
THANK YOU !!!!!!!!!!!! Subscribed! And liked
nice video , i have a 316 e46 and when chekking the oil i saw some "mayo"like substance on the dipstick , but no yellow gunk in the filler cap, could that also be condenstation . the car has been sitting still for at least 6 months.
I only drive my e36 with m50b25 engine at night and a very short distance.. I got milky in oil cap + oil filter cap... And everything else is normal
hey man. So i bought a 2006 BMW x5 3.0i 6cyl a few days ago. I got it for $1000. It had 170,000miles, a dead battery and i was informed from the owner that it had a blown head gasket from what i was told. I assumed there were maybe a few other things wrong with it but i haven't gotten to it yet. I checked the oil and it hadn't been changed in a long time(lots of condensation in the head and in the check valve tube i think thats what its called. I know i need to flush it and refill it. Also, the coolant resivor was bone dry and i couldn't tell if i needed to flush it with water first then refill it or just refill it with coolant. What should i do to flush the heavy condensations thats built up and what should i do for the radiator? Also if things don't work i ordered a whole head gasket kit so should i just tear it down to the head or start with the oils first?
Mine looks the same could last owner have been sitting there for a while coolant tank and oil but no sludge no miss fires no hard smoke out my exhaust just a tremble and a p0174 code only code I’m getting
What if you already drove it for a long run but the next day the mayonnaise came back? Is it still condensation or the head gasket is really blown off? Help please im worried! I dont know if i should drive my car or not
How long would you say it takes to warm up? I've noticed especially in the winter, my oil takes a solid half hour of driving to warm up fully, and I see this milky stuff. I have an 07 335. I have a small coolant leak as well however, I've getting pretty worries about the poor girl
would this happen to my 03 bmw e46 325ci, i have the same milkk going thrue my engine cap and the hose that goes to the valve gmcover has it, its not on my oil dipstick, also it kinda smells like gas, im swapping the engine in six months just trying to make it last me currently 255k km
Would this apply to my motorcycle
Would that cause the engine to overheat also? I have a 09 323i that has oil dots on the coolant and once I try it for about 15mins the car begins to overheat.
If your car lose colant and overheat its sadly mean you car had a head gasket blown.
Why is there oil mixture in my bmw 328i xdrive coolant tank
Thank you so much that really helped me out lot 🙏
Fully appreciate this video
So i got an oil leak around the oil filter prob oil housing and cooler gaskets, so I am hoping thats whats causing my oil to become milky... Did anyone have this problem and can relate if I'm correct?
Thank you so much
