Thank you for this video. I plan on leaving next year. But I’ll be back after my education most likely. But just when I thought I was going to be free of debt, more came. But I’m glad I’ve found this video! I’m still going to try to handle is as best as possible but still thank you for the advice on being proactive!
Thank you for posting this video. You mentioned to inform your bank that you live overseas. Does a person need to call the bank to let them know you're overseas or do you contact them and just update your accounts with your overseas address?
@@MichaelBovee I have lived overseas since November 2020. An international company that I received a job offer for in the country I'm living in ran a background check. The background check discovered a an Active Pending court case since March 2022 by submitted a debt collector attorney for Wells Fells Fargo. Being that I have been living overseas I was never summoned, and the case has been Active pending for over a year, what would you recommend I do?
@@Lior26 You may want to contact an experienced debt collection defense consumer law attorney in the state the case was filed in for feedback on what to do. You can often find the experienced attorney you need through the National Association of Consumer Advocates. You may also want to think about filing a complaint against Wells Fargo with the CFPB, for suing you in a state when they know you do not live in the Unites states. Hi Michael, I owe discover card 8K last payment was a year ago, then I received a letter from SUTTELL&HAMMER law office last MARCH just right before the shutdown threatening me to take me to court in 30 days at that time if I don’t pay , they never called me after that should I call them offer a settlement?
Discover settlements are not ideal when they land with collection attorneys, but yes, you can call Suttell and Hammer to negotiation a settlement. You may want to get help in this situation. Michael, what if I have about 40k credit card debts (Discover (15k) and Citi (12k) and Chase (13k) and I move to Canada. Will they pursue me for that amount? I never plan on not paying back, but covid is making a lot of things uncertain. If ever a situation arises, I would like to take your professional help.
Hi Michael, your videos are the best. If I need to leave the country and I am not sure if I will ever be back, but yet want to do a debt settlement, do you think my chances of getting a good rate might be higher than people who are inside of the country?
You can get good to great settlements with Chase and Citi no matter where you are. In other words, being up north is not necessarily going to improve those settlement deals. Settling with Discover may end up being better with you no longer in the country, and by a decent amount.
I still see accounts rotate to different collection agencies. I still see the US based credit reporting. But aggressive collection efforts for debts owed by someone who no longer lives here, I do not.
@@MichaelBovee Thank you Micheal, It’s been really tough times , as I understand they would not chase or sue people outside of US , since you record the video did it change ?
Hi Michael, I was on a work visa in usa, lost my job due COVID and I was forced to leave the country. I have 13K in credit card debt. 9K chase and 3.5K discover. Discover is about charge my account off in few days and sending it to attorney as well. I have't paid anything in 122 days. I do not have any income to pay the amount, there is a rare chance I would return to the USA, please let me know your opinion if they can chase me in india or what should i do ?
If it were me I would call the banks and let them know you are living in India, and do not know if or when you will return to the US. They would not chase you there.
@@MichaelBovee I have been contacted by third party debt collect for discover, my friend got the letter. They are asking me to pay within 30 days, should I go ahead and contact them for a settlement and will third party for discover settle for $700 ?
Talk to an experienced debt collection consumer law attorney in your state. The only thing I can think that would cause that would be if sued, a court judgment entered, and your being pulled into an asset discovery hearing where you have to disclose something like that. But even then, I have never heard of, in 20 plus years of this type of work, a judge forcing liquidation of stock over a credit card judgment. Family court, or something like that, is when I would expect to run into something like this. Your 401k and IRA are typically protected from judgment creditors, and are even protected in a bankruptcy.
