@@alkestos As buggy as the game is, I'm sure windows has a part to play in it. Windows tends to perform worse the longer it's running. I don't remember the exact reason why.

How you have the patience to rebuild that vehicle *that* many times is beyond me, but I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say we're thankful for your commitment :)

Here is an idea for multiplayer monday: An obstacle course that requires a machine to get you past each obstacle, but not the machine. So then on the next obstacle you need to build a new machine to get you past that and so on. For example: If the obstacle is a gap in the track, then you have to build a machine to throw you over, then you run to the next obstacle and there you have to build something else to lift you or throw you past the obstacle.

One could be to shove you through a pipe while you sit on a (toilet) seat. And of course the pipe isn't just straight.
Problem is only 1 build spot and can only build before the challenge begins
I like the idea but I don't think it's as easy as you think. Gap? Launch myself off a spinning tire. Up a wall? Launch myself off a spinning tire or stack pistons. Essentially it comes down to who can cheese the fastest. It would require well thought out rules so that the quick and dirty methods aren't allowed. On the flip side, making the challenges too complicated requiring multiple unique on-the-spot complex builds makes the video too long.
Since the crashes don't happen after restarting your computer but the game files haven't changed one possibility is that it is loaded into a different location in RAM after the restart (due to other programs requiring less RAM or not running at all perhaps). Maybe do a RAM check so see if you have a faulty module if it happens again in the future.
I would agree, put memtest86 on a flash drive and boot form it
Restarting whenever there are crashing or framerate issues is usually the first thing to try. Shutting down the PC might not work for issues for anyone with Windows 8 or newer. A shutdown now is basically a type of sleep mode as your systems processes, processor cache, and Ram are usually not cleared in a shutdown. Windows creates a fast startup file from before your shutdown so issues can be carried over. Restart is a better option to try over a full Shutdown.
I wish more people knew this it would make their lives easier. But then again who would logically think a restart shuts things down and a shutdown does not. I am so tired of the windows virus I am required to have to use my system. Here is to hoping the SteamOS will finally give us all another option.
I usually hard shutdown my pc when I go to bed which is shutting it down and flipping the power switch off( or unplugging it) then pressing the button a couple times to burn off left over power. Gives things a rest and clears caches

@@archwolf3835 The fast startup file is written to disk. You can clear leftover charge but if you had corrupted data in your working memory, Windows will just helpfully corrupt it again for you on the next boot.
The way you clear that is to either do a reboot instead of a shutdown, or hold shift while you're clicking the shutdown option.

I would have looked back at the recording to see that 1st perfect build you had. I've never seen so many crashes in one challenge. Good on you Scrapman for your perseverance.

the crashes might be caused by a memory leak, which can be fixed by turning the leaks source off, or just reporting the issue to the dev team. Ark had this issue with the sky effects and the crashes happened without any FPS drop. you were patient and did this video, thank you :)

should just remember if you crash more then twice a simple restart of the computer and a validation of game files will more then likely help but if that doesn't work there would then be issues with your computer
After watching a quarter of this video I understand the title
I used to get a lot of bugsplats after the latest update, but after verifying game files in Steam i haven't had a single one, even in challenge mode. :)
Also updating all your drivers is a good idea.

Finally a scrap mechanic video
To my own surprise what worked best for me in this one was the simplest dising. The mechanism only used one bearing and a controller. It would scoop it up and underthrough the ball to right under the hoop in to the target.

0:30 poor ScrapMan... even bugsplat is now less rare in chalange mode...
I was thinking about a challenge similar to this, but in a "tower defense" sort of format. A bot-generating factory, but each bot generator has a ball receptacle and if a ball goes in one, explosives blow up that bot generator. Blow up the generators and their bots to open access to the end before they destroy the player's vehicle. The player makes a vehicle that can launch balls into the receptacles and some mounted spudguns to deal with the bots. Maybe hide some explosives around the map for players as well, or trade a ball for one at a special place.
Would love to see some tower defense elements!

Good that you finally found the problem and managed to complete the challenge, which turned out very easy at the end...
It wasn't very easy, he still had like 3-5 different iterations of the vehicle despite the game crashing and him having to rebuild evrything.
Even without the game crashing it's quite time consuming to fine tune the catapult.

@@fatcat5323 Yeah I've done it already and at first it seemed a lot simpler and easier than it actually was. Quite some fine tuning to get the distance right.
With instruments of destruction I was thinking about those vortex cannons. If they function if detached could you place them inside the buildings to make them implode?

I literally had to get a friend to help with the last 5 challenges because I did the first 45 in one sitting, my brain was fried thinking of different mechanics

he is SO LUCKY that the bridge didn't get stuck because 7/8 times when i got all of them in the hoops the part that falls down to make the gateway, stops the bridge from extending but i didn't have to deal with crashes so i at least had some luck
I have an idea for this challenge, make a launcher like usual, but then make a second small light vehicle to be launched across

Here's a good idea: A flying catapult that launches a little plane of it midair.

somehow I feel so sorry for you when your game always crashes and you have to start over
Isn't it the case that when you back out of challenge mode it saves your vehicle so when you have this issue I think you can save your vehicle by leaving and rejoining challenge mode.
hello scrap man! i see that u press "esc" to reset BUT u can simply use "f5" and reset. :D edit: i think it might be buggy, because when i press "f5" it freezes a little and then reset but i dont know.
I'm surprised you didn't use tires since you use them so much at your scrap mechanic base.
Pistons to pick up the ball and drop it on the moving tires to launch the ball.
We know from many of your videos tires tires can launch heavy objects far.

to me the big problem was that my catapult was way too strong(i used the bearing method with the catapult) , it just launched the ball waaayyyy over the wall with the hoop😂

I’ve only had scrap mechanic crash once, and I’m pretty sure I was doing really dumb stuff
If axalot released a update that made it so that when you take something off the lift it auto save’s that would be asome

I'm curious why you never tried the controller glitch. Set it to 90, but block it from getting there and then release and it snaps to the 90. Heck of a launch. No piston required.

SCRAP MAN SURVIVAL PLEASE
Hi last night there was a bad storm in my area and a transformer was struck by lightning and started a power line fire and power outage that lasted all night.
Wow, Bugg a Splatt. i feal so bad for you surprisingly i did not get a single one but that might have had something to do with lowering the physics quality to exceed 7fps. lowering it did break the mechanism twice though so that sucked but the third should be sucses with the physics quality around 7 worked.

If you finish the lvl and the platform does not come out to drive to the finish change physics to 1 then back to advanced

You could have used the suspension and extra wheels to make a thing like a pitching machine
The first vehicle was much more brick shaped, the new one is wedge shaped (kinda) pretty sure that has to be the issue.
I think it was the reboot in combination with verifying the files that fixed it.
I actually have 0 problems with game crashes in challenge mode, but I think I'm running the test branch.
Your dedication even tho the game was literally doing it's best at preventing you from finishing the challenge🔥🔥
I managed to complete this challenge a bit differently than you, tho also with a catapult I instead used the good old fashioned way of making a catapult with a controller and piston glitch, but I feel like you'rs is more valid🤣

I got approved in Challenge Mode last sunday!
My game never crashed during this challenge and my gaming hardware is just a decent mid range laptop I think it might just be your processing hardware ( I use windows 11 )
i was thinking piston used in the opposite direction so its pulling not pushing, so its fully open and then closing to catapult the ball
Piston fact: pistons are actually extending slower when set to extend to longer distances.
