I first saw Fred Dibnah 3 months ago on RUclips and thought… what an amazing human being ….. and then after binge watching everything I could about him, I come to the realization that he is no longer with us… He really lived his life to the fullest! Living in the US didn’t get a lot of BBC shows …sorry I missed his! Thanks for posting this Tribute the song fits like a glove! Very moving !!!!!
The world is SO shallow now, Fred a true british icon, not many of his breed left sadly, it puzzles me how someone dislikes this, R.I.P Fred I for one miss you.
He would indeed be saddened to see what has become of the once Great Britain- God rest his soul. Great Britain was built by men of his calibre, tempered by flame and fire, balls of Sheffield steel. We are in your debt. Greetings from Tasmania Australia-a Leeds Tyke born the same year-I saw the writing on the wall mid 60’s and left the UK to share my skills in a growing country-sadly now also going the same way.😢
A national treasure.. UK should be proud Fred.. My Grandfather who owned a steam engine allways made the trip from Ireland to meet up with Fred at the shows allways spoke of The man who climbed chimneys Fred Dibnagh rip from Ireland
My Mum is from Northern England as far as I can understand. my Grandma told me about seeing Fred go by on his steam roller with his living van behind going to some steam rally. I Met Shelia some years back at the Great Dorset steam rally. a very kind lady

Just hunting through RUclips for the Peter Gabriel track from the babe soundtrack and found this, using the track to Fred Dibnah photos, so I though , OK, I'll give it a look, the perfect idea of putting these two together was a stroke of genius, totally works on every level, many thanks for doing this.❤️💚💜
Thanks for this, brought tears to my eyes.He was one of my heros.Salt of the earth.Reminds me totally of my father. There would of been one hell of a lot of people crying when he died.
Fred a true British icon, and should never be forgotten, it was because people like Fred that made Britain great all them years ago, and now so many like Fred dead Britain isn't so great anymore, RIP Fred
Being an American guy that visited Bolton and worked there for a few weeks, I can say that while Fred may have had no equal in his trade, he had a few equals in his attitude. Great town that was in 1982. Wonderful people there. But, Fred was a gem.
should have been recognised as a very clever engineer and draughtsman his engineering drawings are a work of art alone, look out Brunnel,Fred's coming to sort it it for you, do you like that........Genius
Met Fred once at a steam rally here in Cheshire i visited, we had a long conversation about one of his other not so well known interests Victorian firearms especially sporting guns. A subject that he was also very knowledgeable in. Yes he is gone though he will never be forgotten.
Sadly, asn't introduced to Fred's world till some years after his death. I'm glad in the films that I was able to meet a small part of a larger-than0life character. A true hero to steam engine buffs and preservationists like myself.
silly olf northern bugger !!, from a somerset lad, but one of the best, and i only wish there was more like him, RIP Fred, we all love ya mate, for you , and the great character and what you represent, a true brit to the core,... a true british hero :)
Great tribute to a great draftsman, historian and engineer,as he said in one of his t.v programs, kids today are scared of getting there hands dirty they just click on computers, they don't a proper job.I'm a retired old school engineer and Fred your right,it's their loss.Hope you've put isambard right on his mistakes.Rest in peace Mr Dibnah.

A much loved steeplejack missed by many taken far too soon. He has taught me a great deal through his documentary programmes on tv R.I.P legend you are well missed 😢😢

@winchurch6666 I'm 17 and I volunteer on a preserved railway, which I probably would have done if Fred wasn't an influence, but Fred probably accelerated my interest in steam and railways in particular.
Hugely moving and hugely unexpected. I mean. Peter Gabriel, the one who used to sing weird, intellectual lyrics like "Take a little trip back with Father Tiresias" singing this simple, touching song while being accompanied by a brass band. Who'd've thought it? And yes, Fred Dibnah was a national treasure, a symbol of all the practical, working class men of my childhood that arrogant, poncey college boys like me thought we were better than.
great guys like these, we don't have them in Germany. Such passion for the past, in a good way, so many people would find much more useful things to do with their lives if they had inspiration from guys like Fred. If I had the money, I'd have a steam engine in my backyard for sure;pp

Salt of the earth. You can keep all the so called celeb's, this wee man towered above them all. God rest him.
right on !
Yeah proper Victorian values. Used to beat his kids and left his wife fuck all in his will, what a guy😂. My mum worked with his daughter.
The world is SO shallow now, Fred a true british icon, not many of his breed left sadly, it puzzles me how someone dislikes this, R.I.P Fred I for one miss you.
I think the music is very appropriate.

in some cases Fred got a job of restoring a steam engine back to working order something he loved doing.

The sweetest thing about Fred, was he always let his wife Alison light the fires on the chimneys he brought down. What a lovely man.
A good Bolton man. The only place I ever spent much time in while in the UK. I met a lot of great guys there. My kind of people.

Fred was everything a northener should be, hard working, straight talking, and a gentleman. The salt of the earth, God bless him.
And he loved a meat pie
Unlike Southerner's, who are supposed to be effeminate, lazy, lying, sleazy, pathetic snobs.
I have read that he could not stand cruelty to Animals
and his Favourite film was Titanic
wow.that hit the spot.

Fred had an interesting duality with chimneys. Charged with both repairing and demolishing icons of an era he adored.
Lovely tribute to a truly top bloke. They don't make them like him anymore.
