- Forgot to mention in the video proper, but we only have proficiency level info for some of the characters and not others. Hence why for some I'm going over both the category membership and proficiency and just covering category membership for others.

I have 2 theories on why Ikalgo is an enhancer:
1) That’s his natural type and he decided to ignore it and make hatsu out of other types. This MAYBE could be backed by the fact that he’s not particularly strong by any means, even though he’s combat oriented.
2) Togashi smoked a fat blunt
He's enhancing the dead bodies to be able to tap into their power? Lmao
Palm is an enhancer too and she's enhancing the effects of the dead merman and its crystal.
I was thinking about the air he sucks in before he shoots. I mean he's using his body's natural function as part of his attack.
@@RaffyART1995 adding "enhancing" in front of a description doesn't mean its enhancement. You can't just say "He's enhancing his tentacles to turn them into a gun" right?
If you stretch the meaning of enhancement a VERY broad amount, it's empowering yourself or something else in a way that increases its function.
When you can control a corpse and use their nen abilities, that is WAY more manipulation that anything else. You can at least stretch his gun ability into saying he manipulated his body to do it, but enhancement being his nen type makes no damn sense considering his hatsu is clearly a weird conglomeration of Manipulation

@@ace6897 I agree. I'm just trying to make it sense too why Ikalgo is an enhancer. His abilities don't have any enhancement in them. He's more in line to manipulation or specialization. Manipulation since he's manipulation dead bodies and specialization since he's still able to use the nen abilities of the dead which should be impossible. Actually very impossible. How does he know their powers, he just knows exactly what their powers are after taking control of the body. Kurapika even uses emperor time to be able to analyze nen abilities using the dolphin chain something.
Meruem as an emitter isn't actually hard to believe. But Ikalgo as an enhancer is just wild.
Komugi is probably enhancing her brain/processing power so she can think way further ahead than most people and create elaborate strategies.
Ikalgo doesn't conjured bullets. He turns the tips of his tentacles into bullets. Believe this takes self-healing and Transmutation.
Palm is a Transmutation lean because of what she does with her hair not because of her ball.
Youpi and Biscuit show that transforming your body like Tsubone, Hinrigh, and Ikalgo is also partially Transmutation.

Ikalgo being an enhancer makes sense. Some cephalopods have the ability to transform like the mimic octopus. It could be seen as an enhanced version of that.

Enhancement is what Youpi uses top.
I think that's stretching enhancement too much. Enhancement strengthens a things function, it does not make a function more versatile. I think ikalgo is just using unfavorable nen catagories which is fine seeing as how chimera wants are all kinda nen prodigies by default.

@@jacjac7154 Fair. Perhaps there is a bit of a mythical animal mixed in him too. Youpi and Poof had it. A combination of enhancement (shapeshifting), transmutation (altering of properties of the arm), emmition (firing his aura at great distances), and conjuration (ammo).

palm could just be enhancing the orb itself, and since the royal guard made it apart of her head that means she did not conjure either. which means its a real ,possibly be some type of nen artifact, after all if people can enhance their skills palm could be enhancing her scrying skill or the item itself or both.
I really should make a video dedicated to her at this point.
To be very brief:
1. We don't know what exactly the Merman is.
2. It's implied that specifically her blood is a valued asset to Knov.
3. Since she was bonded to it after becoming a Chimera Ant, the implication is that it is somehow indeed connected to her and not an arbitrary item which anyone could've benefited from or else the Royal Guards could've benefited from using it.
@@theoverthinker348 It is an item that has a direct connection to her. Nevertheless, it is not something that is conjured, which is pretty obvious. She enhances the effects of clairvoyance.
@@theoverthinker348 im almost 100% certain clarvoience is emission. It works the same way as teleportation abilities the only difference is your just "teleporting" or emitting your sight. Palm being an enhancer makes plenty of sense considering that and the fact she uses black widow. I do think transmutation lean is strange tho.

I'm pretty sure Netero's ability uses conjuration and manipulation. Since he was a pure enhancer, it made his ability as hard to use as possible. Netero liked to handicap himself in fights due to his strength so it makes sense why his nature and ability are so at odds.
I'm slowly coming around to this, still thinking on it.

13:51 made an error here. Palm is Transmutation- not Emission-lean. I said it and showed it correctly at the beginning, but screwed up in the outro. The stupid thing is that I had already made the exact same mistake and put Nobunaga as Emission-lean at the end just like I did Palm. Instead of switching to Gotoh, I... for some ungodly reason, switched to Palm. Thereby accomplishing nothing. Fun.
i’m confused on how that’s still wrong though they literally say in the manga and the show that palm is a natural enhancer plus we find that out when killua, gon, and palm first meet

It makes sense she's a transmuter lean since she also transforms her air. Have you noticed that transmuters have a thing for body transmutation. Youpi, Bisky, Porcopine, Kil;lua's claw perhaps?

it could be similar to how gon using scissors or he might apply some type of field that greatly increases his blade sharpness , and therefore not only making blade enhanced with nen but also more sharper than it should be.
A definite possibility, I had a similar idea.
The thing is that we've never seen any kind of visual (or any other) indicator that this is happening. He could get the exact same, or similar, results, by enhancing the blade's durability and sharpness through pure Enhancement as well, so I'd like to think there something more to it.
Maybe he can greatly extend it's range through a Scissor-like application of Shu (though he probably would've done so recently). Or maybe he can transmute a Scissor-like (or maybe even invisible) Wakizashi-like dagger and go Musashi two-sword style.

@@slevinchannel7589 That's the translation I was working with when making the diagram. I din't find it as particularly important since it's clear what level I'm talking about either way. I'll alter it if I feel up to it, though.
@@theoverthinker348 we actually have seen him transmute the tip of a blade in chapter 399 I think. The tip gets cut of but you can still see his nen making a tip for the blade.
My guess is his transmutation leaning is because he enhances his swordsmanship by transmuting his aura into a cutting force much like gon does with his scissors technique.
Togashi retconning peoples Nen breaks everything I understood and loved.

He didn't break anything. Those information in the data book is only reliable when Togashi confirmed it himself.

Maybe Palm becoming a chimera ant changed her category? That might be why her clairvoyance hatsu went from spying on anyone she’d seen before, to only the last three people she’s seen. That’d actually be kinda funny, if her rebirth turned her into a bit of a Kastro.

@@nothanksthough The room he conjures doesn't really have great effects it doesn't damage anyone nor cause any supernatural effects, it's just a nen space. Unlike Cheetuh's nen space which could greatly effect the nen user inside when certain conditions are met by Cheetuh.
The main feature of Knov's power is its teleportation aspect which Nobunaga said is an emitter ability. Come to think of it, Nobu said that land mine type portal is very powerful and could only be made up to three at once. But Knov could actually create more than three. In that regard if it's already hard for emitters to make three portals at once, how much more for a conjurer. So this is why Togashi made Knov an emitter instead.
Knuckle to me as an emitter in the beginning didn't really make sense. Since I always think that nen beasts are created through conjuration, just like the conjurer Abengane. So when he was finally confirmed as a conjurer, it didn't really surprise me that much. To be fair, I do think he's also using a bit of emission too in its power since he could maintain the ability far from him although it has a time limit since he isn't really a natural emitter, unlike Knov who is capable of keeping his building active somewhere for indefinite period of time which makes senses for an emitter.

tbh i think the skillful for Gon was for Pre Vow to give up his life, because tbh while he was a prodigy in learning nen, he is just outclassed by so many people in HxH
It wouldn’t make sense for togashi to retcon palms category at this point because it was already a plot point in the story itself. We were shown her using hatsu and killua even comments on it saying that she must be an enhancer.

Yeah I feel the same thing is going on with Neferpitou, all their abilities can be explained with the normal categories and a ton of aura except maybe Dr. Blythe

On Ikalgo's being an enhancer, i have similar theory on Youpi, they're chimera means they're not restricted to one animal, so what if Ikalgo's affinity with flees gives him an innate understanding of parasitism and that's why he can posess other people, him being enhancer is just an improvement on that, as for youpi, it's stated that he's built from different magical animals, so maybe his genetic make-up is unstable and enhancement is just speeding up the process of mutation
Enhancement feels like a buff to natural functions of the body than rather than a kayoken-esque power-up

I've heard this sentiment before and I was really surprised. We can't really be sure either way, but considering that is certainly utilizes Manipulation and that Netero is himself an Enhancer, Emission makes much more sense efficiency-wise.
Plus, if it were Conjured, it'd be very weird that it's just a physical object floating in mid air like that. Netero would need to utilize Manipulation to keep it aloft as well.
All of this, plus it's spiritual connotations and somewhat transcendent ethereal aesthetic, all point towards Emission in my mind.
i think it’s a mix of enhancing, conjuration, and manipulation. Netero states that he “summons” it and that he needs to be in the prayer position to “control” it. Then we find out he enhances it with his own nen
My counter argument is that the point of it is being inefficient, during his fight with Netero Meruem remarks that the whole praying before attacking is a waste move, something that usually would get you killed in a fight, but Netero spined that over until it became his forte, my understanding of it is that he is doing a very similar thing as Kastro, using his least effective categories in the most efficient way he can, by doing a waste move every single time he attacks, Meruem also notices that the puppet has a limited moveset and only imitates Neteros moves so he is definitely using manipulation either way, the whole "emitters can summon things but not as real" seems to me like something Togashi doesn't like to promote anymore, I think that's why Knuckle is a Conjurer in his last exhibition, I suspect he has being thinking of new ways to get out of the "everything weird is specialist" mind set, in the same way he left Kurapikas last finger as an open power for later he did that too with the specialist category for himself, but it backfired because it took away from the other categories, I feel he is remapping nen in a new way that still makes sense but allowing hatsus to use multiple categories in interesting ways even if it goes against the "you should only use your main and adjecent categories" that he promoted with Wing
@@Disir-Elizbt Meruem never stated that the prayer is a waste move. Each prayer is done in less than a second, even as fast of the speed of sound, or even faster than Meruem himself. The fact is each Boddhisatva's attack is connected to the prayer. And tell you, Meruem was not able to dodge even one of them. Meruem was just so tanky. That's how fast the Buddha was attaking because the prayers were fast too.

Meruem praised it by saying that finding an opening is like looking for one needle among MILLIONS of needles. He never stated that the old man has limited move sets, but he figured out that humans have certain habits on their actions, he tried to look for the conscious bias on Netero to find an opening.

I think ikalgo splitting his hatsu is why he is so weak and if he had an enhancement hatsu he’d probably be as strong as a squad commander since we see those that retained more memory were usually stronger also I don’t think it was a big detriment to him since ants had unworldly amounts of aura
As for palm I think the clairvoyance was an ability she possessed before she learned nen and refined it after trying her nen so maybe specialist or emmision conjuror(the mermaid) or even manipulation

What Netero and Hiska do is simply focusing their vision and literally enhancing it (i.e. zooming in).
What Palm does goes beyond that. She can effectively peer into reality unconstrained by range and spies on people through bird's-eye-view (or other) angles. This should only be possible by conjuring a sensor to transmit visual input, unless we're talking about Specialization.
@@theoverthinker348 I was thinking that being able to see beyond the restrictions of line of sight could be described as enhancing your abilities. the definition of enhancement may be sorta abstract. But i admit its possible that the ability uses emission or conjuration entirely and black widow is her only ability using her natural affinity.

Ur voice is great, but I think you’re off on one point. Gon just wasn’t very good with nen yet compared to the other characters listed. Yes, he was a prodigy but he had only been training for under two years with nen. There was no real evidence that he was anything but the lowest level, certainly he was significantly weaker than uvogin, even after chimera ant. Great video though really enjoyed
Much appreciated! We actually agree on that point. It's just that, Togashi has implied that your mental state can affect your proficiency level and during the palace invasion, Gon was seconds away from Gon-san as soon as he got a whiff of Pitou. It makes sense to me that his prof level would've been gradually increasing as his mental state deteriorated and he hyper-focused on eradicating Pitou. But it could've also been the case that he just jumped from Skillful to Extreme in an instant. The first option is more intuitive to me, but that's as far as my argument goes.

Why do Komugi’s eyebrows go over her hair?

It's a animation technique meant to accentuate her defining features (i.e. eyebrows), while also being time--efficient. It's much more prominent in older anime.
Am I the only one who's convinced that Netero's Hatsu used all categories of Nen?
The supersonic clap activation is Enhancement.
The statue is Conjuration.
The movement of the arms is Manipulation.
Zero Hand uses Transmutation to create Nen light, and Emission to fire it. Emission is also used to project his statue onto his opponent instead of himself.
The only category that doesn't get used is Specialization, because Netero has a 0% affinity for it.
I think this makes far more sense than any possible alternative explanation. The only possible argument against it is Hisoka's overload argument, but this is a several hundred year old Nen super master that we're talking about. If anybody in this universe can multitask, it's Netero. Mental overload isn't a hard coded rule of the universe. It's something that happens to people who bite off more than they can chew. It also fits thematically by having Netero achieve the absolute peak of Nen use via mastering all of the categories. Basically, I believe that Netero is Kastro if he actually took the time to master his own category first before branching out.
I feel it was definitely majorly Conjuration and Manipulation.
He already mastered Enhancement so he uses the two worst nen categories for himself for his special move as a challenge.
Basically the ultimate flex "Im so good I can go full kastro"

@@nenmaster5218 Hmm, Kurapika didn't 'decide' to have ET burn his lifespan, it's more like he 'discovered' it after using it a while.
As to whether it would be possible as a general restriction... I'm not sure, but I'd say yes. It's all about willpower. Gon traded his potential future for a momentary gain, so trading your lifespan (which is more or less an actual thing in HxH) for an additional boost seems entirely within the realms of possibility.

Alcolgo can be a transmuter because he can still use the ability it’s just not his strengths at all
