He literally sacrficed his left hand and has chosen to live with a dissability.
No one told him to. His friends and family probably insisted on cutting nails much earlier, yet he remained assertive and kept on going for 66 years. Just out of pure spite.
I can’t even decide if I’m proud of this man’s achievement or totally mind blown.

@ I’m not sure what that means to have trauma from not having long fingernails. I understand that victims of abuse can have disorders like hoarding for instance. Maybe his growing of those nails was a stress response. Regardless, His family should have helped him get help I guess. But the fact remains that he had to have help with everything in life because of those fingernails. It did impact everyone around him. He chose for them to serve him. Technically, he chose his fingernails first over his family….. that’s neglectful of their needs and disregards them. Very sad .

I come back to this video every once in a while. I think it fascinates me because I’m watching something that makes me genuinely emotional, but what he’s done is completely unrelatable as a physical action. I will never know what it’s like to cut off 60+ years of nail growth, but I can also see how monumental it is. This man has led a fascinating life, even if I don’t know much about it beyond what was said in the video.
I feel like there’s more to the story when it comes to the beating that led to his decision, but I guess there’s always more to the story when you’re a human being. His nails are like the physical manifestation of “everyone you know is fighting their own battle.” Navigating life physically was challenging enough, but in order to keep these nails you’d have to be making the same decision every day-even subconsciously. The fact that he finally made the decision to cut them is just so compelling in that regard.
