Wow! Glad the fire extinguisher mystery was solved. What a beast! Holy cow when you were getting on it that thang was pulling with some authority. Love seeing it come together. Keep it coming.
Man, glad to see that noise you had is gone with the new pinion bearing. I laughed when you found the "new" noise was a fire extinguisher. I had the same thing happen with my Dart at the drag strip this year. I took off and heard a terrible bang in the rear of the vehicle. I was sick, turned out to be a camping chair I left in the trunk. Catastrophe avoided. Car looks and sounds great man.
Dude! Congrats, that maiden drive with no problems feels so good! Nice to see the valiant get some love! Ya know one thing that would tighten up the steering is go with a 16 to 1 fast ratio manual steering box. Available 67 to 69 in A bodies only. It will steer like a truck but goes from like 6 turns lock to lock to 4 turns if it's the typical 24 to 1 box almost all manual A bodies had. My Dart was a Western Sport Special with the light duty v8 drive train originally. However it came with 340 spec torsion bars and leaf springs, formula S 14x5.5 wheels, and 16 to 1 manual steering box. I later added factory front and rear sway bars. I always thought it was hard to steer but it had great road feel and reacts and turns way faster then the stock /6 69 Dart I got later for my sister. I had never driven a normal option manual steer Dart and when I was test driving it I turned it the amount my car needed to make a right onto the street and almost hit a pole. That's when I found out my car had some weird special options and took half the steering input to do something 😎 I could drive the 6 car with a finger when tires were aired up and moving, my car I could drive with one hand, but definitely not when parking it... No matter what box it has a good alignment should make a world of difference as long as everything is tight.
im gonna be one of the few people that doesnt comment about the F.P., so lmao, the fire extinguisher sounds like something id get worked up over. especially after 4 of the 16 lunati lifters i put in my dart collapsed. i put howards in the other day, and so far so good. every little sound has me jittery now.
So cool! Yeah, it looks like the car really wants to leap out of the hole. Lol you must’ve thought a leaf spring was coming through the floor with that noise!
I don't care how much noise! I just want to drive the little a body keep it up you'll get the pump to be quiet sooner or later and the turbo sounds great!
I drove a 69 like it for ten years and constantly replaced front suspension parts trying to keep it aligned , sounds good, could use a bigger cam but sounds good
Is this a performance fuel pump? Why is this noise ? I suggest checking at the fuel pump to see for a nice 14v of power and also a good grounding while the engine is running(voltage drop test) if possible. I had the same noise and finally a connector has melted.
Might as well throw some junk tires on the back and enter the burnout call out fray going on you tube right now, get some more subs to the channel! :-)

Awesome. Good job so far. Dont put a cage in it if its 90% street car.....you'll regret it. Find a dyno shop and get the baseline sorted out on 7psi. Dont push it over 14psi without 100octane....5gallons of 93 + 5 gallons of Toluene = 105 octane if VP C12 isnt available locally.
I’ve had good results with mixing torco high octane accelerator. You can mix your own high octane fuel, but watch that stuff as those are some nasty chemicals in there.
It isnt widely known.....but in the 80s Turbo F1 cars ran on a Toluene/Xylene based race fuel up to 40psi and 1500hp.....and had a 114/116 octane rating...... I had a DSM that I needed 116 octane for and couldnt get it locally....a Petroleum Engineer told me about Sherwin William's Mineral Spirits (pure Toluene) and I supplemented 93 octane with it at 70/30, 60/40, and 50/50....up to 28psi with no problems.
