You know what? I see you have way too many comments about the fuel pump, me being the last to comment. I wanted to apologize for that, you don't need any negative comments. After seeing most of your videos, I think you have learned a lot with fabrication, and many other aspects of a rebuild, no matter how involved. I've restored cars for most of my life. Too old now. From full rotisserie restorations with 4000 plus hours. Good luck Steve.

Man, glad to see that noise you had is gone with the new pinion bearing. I laughed when you found the "new" noise was a fire extinguisher. I had the same thing happen with my Dart at the drag strip this year. I took off and heard a terrible bang in the rear of the vehicle. I was sick, turned out to be a camping chair I left in the trunk. Catastrophe avoided. Car looks and sounds great man.

  • @69Dartman
    @69Dartman 3 года назад +1

Ya know one thing that would tighten up the steering is go with a 16 to 1 fast ratio manual steering box. Available 67 to 69 in A bodies only. It will steer like a truck but goes from like 6 turns lock to lock to 4 turns if it's the typical 24 to 1 box almost all manual A bodies had. My Dart was a Western Sport Special with the light duty v8 drive train originally. However it came with 340 spec torsion bars and leaf springs, formula S 14x5.5 wheels, and 16 to 1 manual steering box. I later added factory front and rear sway bars. I always thought it was hard to steer but it had great road feel and reacts and turns way faster then the stock /6 69 Dart I got later for my sister. I had never driven a normal option manual steer Dart and when I was test driving it I turned it the amount my car needed to make a right onto the street and almost hit a pole. That's when I found out my car had some weird special options and took half the steering input to do something 😎
I could drive the 6 car with a finger when tires were aired up and moving, my car I could drive with one hand, but definitely not when parking it...
No matter what box it has a good alignment should make a world of difference as long as everything is tight.

I’d be pretty careful not to run very much boost right off the bat (maybe like 5 psi or so)on pump gas because detonation on those cast pistons will be bad news quickly. You may also want to get a turbo blanket because it will melt the paint off your hood and accidentally burn you if your under the hood with a hot engine. Those turbo exhaust turbines get red hot. Not sure where you are located, but there are very few shops that can do alignments on anything old. I can not only teach you how, but be 100% confident on doing an alignment on any car you have. It’s really simple with very basic understanding. I’ve been building cars for over 40 years. Check out the dart my brother and I have almost completed on my channel to see my work. I've done a few hundred alignments in my day and I tried to do the alignment on the Valiant with a level and string but without plates under the front tires I cant get the suspension to settle after adjustments. I have a friend with a shop that has plenty of experience. I'm taking it there on Tuesday.

Getting the car to settle is probably toughest part. Sounds like you got a good plan in order. Here in Denver the car scene really suffers... Anyway, if you need help feel free to let me know. Wished I had found your project sooner!

Fellas,, this car has been around for 50 years,, there's absolutely nothing on it or in it that you can break , that can't be fixed or replaced . Short of burning it down..
there's an old mantra for the 60s.. that still holds water today.
    Buy it-
    Build it-
    Beat it-
    Break it-
    Fix it..
    Repeat as necessary..
The car is made by Chrysler,,
    Not Tiffany's of New York..
Slap it around a little bit,,
    Or it'll never respect you...
A little bit of fuel pump whine is acceptable,, but that's just ridiculous...

Think twice before making test runs on the street with out seat belts. I have had bad things happen to friends through the years. Motor sounds good .
