I have 2 roll out awnings on my Patrol. I have used a permanent marker to show how far the poles should be extended to enable an easier set up. Works for me. Love the videos. Please keep them coming.
Thanks. I do the same - with a couple of minor variations. I undo the middle Velcro strap last so it's held in the middle while I put the bag on top; and I keep the spring tension ropes (with carabiner clips) in a handy bag because they're too big to roll up into the awning. My cheap awning has survived "quite fresh" wind gusts up and down the west coast and I'm amazed how it's lasted without wrapping over the top of my car. It's a point of honour to be able to put up the awning by myself. Some couples have turned the process into Round 2 of the "backing the caravan" prize fight - sit back and watch when you're on Cable Beach any day during nomad season. 😂
You beat me to it! Middle strap last. Key. Also, not sliding the side poles way back into each other. Leave them as long as you can fit them inside when packed. Honestly, I find easier to set up on my own……
Got the dune awning on mine so easy and light weight to set up I was amazed how easy it was to set up on my own better than my old ones worth getting one .
Good job guy’s. I have a (Kings) 270 degree awning & not being so young & agile now days (62) I have some serious rotacuff issues going on in my shoulders & I have a lot of trouble holding things over my head for any time, so generally I would have someone assist me to setup or pack up the awning. I got caught out one morning trying to pack it away on my own before a shower of rain came through, a slight-ish gust of wind folded the front corner upwards like a reversed umbrella for a brief moment, I was so pissed off as I had only used it a few times at this stage, it still works, but has a bit of a bend in one of the arms, so I said stuff it & ordered a 270 freestanding one, I am yet to install, but hopefully that will make the task a bit easier for me in the future. TFS. Cheers
So funny I was looking for videos like this was baffled why the awning weren’t retractable like a blind they do sell them but are expensive. Now I have confident in buying a cheap one as I probably use it twice a year
Well explained mate good on ya cheers 👍 I bought the new awning and the poles were keep falling and couldn’t even know how to lock these polls and now I know you have to twist this poll to lock it up .. thanx for that
Thanks guys, especially Bianca. With some careful editing of this clip, I can show my better half that its actually her job to put the awning out. BTW, whose awning is it?
Any reason why you chose to keep a normal awning on the new car as aposed to a 270⁰? I'm assuming it's because of the price difference, that's what's stopping me from making the switch
To be honest I quite like these simple roll-out awnings, they're dirt cheap to replace if damaged, very lightweight and don't restrict rear access to my rooftop tent. I do like the appeal of freestanding 270s though so the setup might change in future, but for now these cheapies do the trick for me. 🙂
Just found your channel. You 2 are hilarious. Awesome to see an Aussie camping channel. Cheers.

That's some clever thinking! Cheers for the tip 🙂

Thanks for sharing, I love this type of video. I have set up my awning on my own w great difficulty so it's nice to see it broken down, thanks guys!!
Nice and easy thanks man. I have the exact same one and use couple of times while camping but was looking like a fool to setup by myself 😅
Nice video mate, but the ending was hilarious. Keep them coming, cheers!
Well instrusted and informative.
Not the way I do it but I guess it would be the most common.
It's obvious you two have been doing this for while. You have the set up down pat. 👍
Brilliant.....a video I have been needing to watch for a few years 😅😅😅😅
Good tip for height unchallenged and height challenged awning operators ;). Thanks for the content team
You are doing a better job of it Bianca😉 Great clip guys Thanks for sharing

Great one! I suck at straight pull awnings haha

There is no substitute for experience in setting up the gear quickly and correctly.

That music though 😂
Cheers guys
Good video

weight too. And some wagons with a tailgate won't fully open

Great video buddy, exactly like i do mine, I learnt from a video from Tim Bates on utube
You're back doing videos!
Why do you have the zippers in the middle?
Cheers, r
No real reason regarding the zippers, just how it happened to be put away the previous time. 🙂
