So glad to see Nook playing another space game. Hope you're well Nook! Thanks for putting this together!
Doing well! How ya been, Brig?
"It is a space game. We are going to hop in a spaceship and fly around in space." That synopsis alone takes care of managing the viewer's expectations. If someone watches the video and gets disappointed it is on them.
well put and fair
- If you decide to get the Artifact Spotters tech, then you want people with 2 points in Astro skill.
- The Improved Handling line will increase your turn rate. Plus once you get more resources you can add turning thrusters.
- I found the Bolt Accelerator + Turret Repeater techs super useful for combat.
Been playing this all day. It's really intuitive and comfy. I love it.
Oh look. A Klingon Battle cruiser. Well done. Thanks for sharing this with us.
Anybody here remember Starflight and Starflight 2: Trade Routes of the Cloud Nebula?
Yep, I had both. Kevin says he created Starcom with those venerable titles in mind; one of his comments on Steam.
there something real satisfying when your in the later stages of the game with a beast of a ship and you fly through one of the early system and these enemies arent even worth your time to destroy anymore
Happy little starship
This game looks really fun and certainly does conjure memories of Starcontrol :)
LAUNCH FIGHTERS
Spathi!
So anyways, I just started Blasting.
How wise of you mr jay!
😂
Yeah, he was like bing bing bing boom bong! Ah, man you shoulda seen it. Like wow. Huh huh.
I got a little chuckle as you upgraded your ship and said, “Bob Ross is a little more combat ready.” The picture was hilarious.
Dang youtube hasnt served me up a nookrium video in a hot minute. How you doing man? Its been a while
This got me thinking- how about vampire survivors in spaceships
Time Wasters
The planetary exploration system reminds me a lot of Stellaris. Some planets have anomalies, you drop an away team and check them out, there is plot, or salvage, or both. Which is cool.
It looks intriguing, thanks for the presentation.
I picked up the earlier version of this game after I saw you playing it...4 years ago. zErmagerd we're getting old. Finished it way back then. Good recc Nook.
This game is great. Bought it yesterday and haven't put it down. Great story, combat, progression, and the ship-building is very satisfying. Pretty relaxing, too. I especially love all the QoL features that other space games really need to learn to implement.
How does it compare to Starcom Nexus (if you played it)? I got a bit bored with that game. I found it a bit repetitive.
@@cdeford2 Very similar game. It's a more ambitious project than the previous game. There's quite a bit to do and the narrative is actually pretty interesting.
@@davefinfrock3324 OK thanks.
Anything that reminds me of Sentinel Worlds is usually pretty dope.
yaaay! I was waiting for 1.0 to release to play it! the first game was my favourite game of the past 5 years, it's really amazing. recommend it to everyone! ok, gonna go play it now. see ya
Recommend people picking up Transcendence again if they like 2D space shooter/roguelike/rpgs
Still an all time great.
1:40:20 phaha! "Avoid CIF eyecare" , did i hear it right ? :D So "See if I care" ? Seems like the employee behaviour then corresponds with what is written on the door :D
😁 CF Eye Care
Highfleet+Starsector
This is the second game in the series, sequel to Starcom: Nexus.
Though the first game is only tangentially related storywise.
best dad joke ever , Garnished.... it's a dill...
great little game
It seems solid but does it do anything different to set it appart from some of the greats like Star Sector?
there's more focus on story and your individual ship. the sense of discovery is really great because you can go anywhere and encounter little stories that describe the world. and sense of progression is pretty awesome since you upgrade your ship, and so it's a simpler game compared to star sector which takes a tonne of brain power, trading, etc... it's a very chill game
Yeah, it actually hit 1.0 and is on Steam.
Starsector is at a much bigger scale, from fleets to eventually managing a planet and faction warfare. This one the focus is on your single ship, exploring, trading, learning to lore of the galaxy, etc.
A simpler comparison would be Starsector is Star Wars, this one is Star Trek.
Starsector is Stellaris from the PoV of an Admiral. Starcom is Stellaris from the PoV of a Science Ship.
@Llortnerof science ships had zero weapons in stelaris, so the comparison nook made with star trek is a better one. 😊
The grid that was shown when you upgraded your ship at the start: is that the largest you can make your ship? Or can you eventually build really large ships?
They can get pretty big. There are dreadnought class hulls. The material reqs are massive, but you can go big before you go home.
do you get all the material back when you disconnect a part from the ship. love the game sofar. but having problems finding materials. and getting certain missions moving along.
You never did "find the comet" in that planet "debris" BTW. Well, you *did* find "the Emissary" at least! 2 And if you want more future Dad jokes, I give "sage" advice!
looks very similar to Space Rangers
has anyone found the tech tree for upgrading engines?..
I have interest in this game but it seems like a way way less deep version of Star Sector?
hi, can somebody tell me how to change to alternative havok system?its not in the shipsystem like the missles. looks like i am to stupid to get it done it on my own...
Almost every space game makes the same mistake, needing a permenent outflow of energy from ship engines. That is not realistic. You only need in space to use ship engines to accelerate or deaccelerate. In space there is no air, thus no drag that slows down the existing speed a spaceship already have reached.
I’m so on the fence with buying. Someone convince me
buy it, it's the beest
Its a good game bro! I used to be a gamer before but the past few years there hasnt been too many games that caught my attention. This is one of those game that did. I find games not being made by big gaming studios to be a lot better. I havent bought a call of duty game since 2016.
This guy tries too hard to be a gamer. He is too interested in being entertaining than actually playing the game.
Our Nookrium just plays wayyyyyyyy too many different games and doesn't take time to learn or enjoy them.
I don't watch any of his videos, just look at what he found and if it looks interesting, search for a real let's play. Nookrium cannot present representative gameplay, since usually he ignores half of the mechanics, and misunderstands the other half. He also refuses to talk about the quality of a game, or about which kinds of players could like the game, and the video titles have false and very inprecise genres which don't describe the game well. His videos also usually start with jokes instead of explaining the game - as if his persona is more important than the game. I myself am interested in the games, not off-topic entertainment
I'm sorry about that, cuz i like the general concept and he's my favorite indie-finding-channel
Am I missing something?. Watching the video it seems like this game is nothing more than an arcade game. If they remastered Galaxiga it would look just like this. Steam says it is 'similar to games you play Fallout 4 and Cyberpunk. How in the world is this game anything like those games? What am I missing? Or is somebody just trying to sell something.
All the starcom games are just a waste of money, they are basically a copy and paste of every other starcom game out there
there is only one other starcom game, made by the same developer, and the point is to make a similar game but better. what are you on about mate?
@@ekstrajohn to make it better? its latterly a copy and paste of Starcom Nexus, the game has a shitty story and promises exploration but most of it is just copy and paste
@@Seldion You can't make perfect better. :) I loved the story for what it is, and I felt like I was exploring quite a lot. I once travelled into blank empty space for 20 minutes only to find a sole system unconnected to everything. I found a rare thing on it and got an achievement that only 0.5% of players got. That felt great!
