I was lucky enough to meet Katie for about 10 seconds when she visited the Nationals in (I think) 2018. For whatever reason, what stood out to me is that she is SO tall. I am 6'0" and she was as tall, maybe taller, than I am.
My coaches would kill me if I swam a mile like that. Breathing almost every other stroke and barely kicking... Katie is a mutant, and I say that in a good way

This distance gap to second place is almost the size of the distance gap between first and second place the women's mile run when Faith Kipyegon obliterated the world record by 4.7 seconds! (she won by 7 seconds/about 50 meters)
❤ its absurd :) superhuman :) and to think i was proud of myself for accomplishing my first 150 continuous yrds in a 25yd pool today, after previously only managing 100 at a time with little breaks in between, and at a ridiculous fraction of the sort of stroke pace she is at. so hilarious : ) it would be fun to swim next to katie for a length or two, just to see how much i would need to sprint to even try to match her pace. after watching her recent races with average 1 minute 100 meter pace times, my puny lil exhaustion sprint 38 second 50 yrds would be toasted in the first 20 meters :) still though, the first meters i would at least get to look over while breathing and seeing her relentless arm strokes before leaving me in her wake, and for a couple seconds, i would get to feel like i am matching the champ :)
