Trump actually likes him and Vivek also said he wants to go for the pole position and won't settle for 2nd place, later on he said he will settle for 2nd place under Trump. He's more well spoken that Trump and I think Trump may feel he will have cute ideas trying to overshadow him as VP.
The VP role is somewhat of a "yes man" role and basically a copy and paste of the President's ideals, should anything happen to him/her the VP steps in following protocol which was set by the President and not inject their own ideals mid way through the race, this causes instability.
Some people have forgotten the VP role since there's been very few situations where they are called on in the absence of the President but they are the same role not 2 different ideologies.
JD Vance seems like can be controlled like a puppet whereas Vivek is more outspoke, so for the VP role Vance is more acceptable for Trump.
The VP definitely has to play down & be in a supportive role.
