- In this video, we are going to unbox the Huawei 4G Router B311As-853, also know as Huawei 4G Router 2. The router has 1 gigabit Ehernet port which can be setup as WAN or LAN and 1 external antenna connector (SMA). With LTE Cat 4, Huawei B311 can achieve download speed up to 150Mbps and upload speed up to 50Mbps.
Huawei 4G Router Lite has two variant models: Huawei B311As-853 and Huawei B311s-220, which supports different bands.
Huawei B311As-853 (the one in the video) supports:
4G LTE: B1/B3/B5/B8/B26/B28/B34/B38/B39/B40/B41(B41: 2545~2655),
3G UMTS: B1/B5/B8 & TD-SCDMA: B34/B39
If you from Malaysia, the router works well with Unifi, Yes 4G on band 40 and Celcom on band 3. Maxis/Hotlink supports band 3 but they have the best speed in band 7, which is not supported by the router.

I recommend the B315 or B618 depends on your budget. Actually you can you Huawei Hilink app (English interface), connect to wifi and configure it. This will be the easiest way.
huawei routers turns bad as it's phones now I'm facing problems on google maps even though my phone is Samsung A71 😐

- By default, the antenna mode of this router is set to auto, which means it will automatically adjust the configuration if an external antenna is connected, you don't need to worry about this.
- Once you connect a PC/laptop/switch to the network port of the router, the connection will be establish and if you have internet connection via WiFi, you will have internet connection via the LAN port.

Good question! Viettel runs their LTE network on Band 1 (2100 MHz) and Band 3 (1800 MHz), which is supported by this router.
are most of 3g, LTE, and 4g sim cards compatible to that modem?
Can you flash OpenWRT on this router? I've got a similar router B310-518 and I would like very much to flash OpenWRT.
Unfortunately no. The number of Huawei routers which are supported by OpenWRT is very small, because most of it is closed source.
That external antenna is to receive cellular signal or to transmit wifi signal?

At the time purchase, the router costs me RM150 ~ $35 (Chinese version). My rating:
Price: 10 (as I can't find other LTE Cat4 cheaper than this one)
Performance: 7 (LTE signal strength is not good as the B315, has only 1 external antenna and 1 ethernet port)

Hi, for my case I just insert the SIM CARD and the router auto detect the APN and setup the connection, I don’t need to active it with my phone.

How to setup the antena inside the router interface ? Because i installed an antena but the network didn't increase
I am no longer use this 4G router as I switched to a fiber optic connection, so I can't help you with this. The router default setting for antenna is auto and it should use both internal & external antenna once it is plugged in. You can play around with the web UI and find it. What kind of antenna you are using? A normal antenna on the marketplace can only increase the signal around +3 dbm.

Scroll down below and read that default is auto when external antenna is plugged in .. cool ! It is a great router under my car seat that beat those even with external like prolink 🥳
Drop down menu has auto, external and internal but external 5dbi one proves to be useless and best still with internal especially in my car mobile application since only single and not double diversity type. Cheers
Should I connect the yellow Ethernet cable even if I insert a sim card?
Hi, the yellow ethernet cable can be used to connect your laptop/PC to the router to have a stable connection (instead of WiFi). You don't need to use it if Wifi is doing well.

Something is wrong with the power adapter, or worser something is wrong with the router itself. Did you factory reset the router?

Hi, may I know if this SIM card is for router/data usage only for it can be used for calling? Some SIM card only serving data connection when it is inserted to the phone.

Hey, you can use the Google Translate extension and it can help you translate the page to English. Or, go to Play Store and download HiLink app from Huawei and you can setup the router in English.

Yes it should work well in Europe, and Germany. However, this router is a lite version and the signal may not really good. You can give a try with Huawei B315 or even B618/B818 (expensive but strong).
Can this router use the external antenna like parabolic antenna ?
Yes it can, there is 1 port for external antenna. If you plan to use external antenna, I suggest the B315 instead of this model for better performance.

No, it will not. Unless you change the TTL on your computer or use another router to change it.

You can only use unlimited data plan on mobile phone, so it will not work on this router and other model of routers.

As per my test, the device can reach 40 - 50 Mbps, but I think it can do more.

1:38, carefully pry 'square' cover. There will be an SMA port.
Then check inside WebUI for external antenna (usually automatic)
Drop now menu has default auto, external and internal option but unfortunately, the 5dbi external one on dash did not help in my car mobile usage under driver's seat. Not sure but think it makes sense and I set it to internal and default auto. Guess it is a nice 4g router with its internal antenna at stock. Cheers.
How to login on the internet ? For the website of the router
Hi, you can login to to web GUI at 192.168.8.1, the username is admin and the default password can be found at the lable of the router.

Nope, it can either be a 4G/LTE or a normal wireless router with PPPoE/DHCP
Can we change the modem firmware to English language?
Hi, if you purchase the Chinese domestic version then we can't. However, if you purchase the internation version there will be the option to change the language. You can find the language selection at the top right corner.

From what I know you can do that with the b310 but no b311. Just need root access, and change the packet TTL. There are tutorials on Google for this bro.
One question how do you forward ports on this router
I don't think you can since most of the cellular network operators provide private IP address instead of public IP address. If they provide public IP, then you can always do that in the web GUI.

Hi, you can try to reset the router to default and use the password provided on the label.
Can you port forward this router?
Hi, you can configure port forward with this router; however, it need to be supported by the telco/network operator as well. Most of the network operator only assign private IP and it is impossible to port forward.

You need to try first, and if they use private IP for mobile connection, it means not only you but all the users are having this, and it is impossible to requires them to change from private IP to public IP. (Most of the mobile network operator use private IP, except for some mobile broadband)

Hi, first of all you need to check if the ISP assign private IP address (normally start with 10.xx, 192.168.xx, 172.16.xx) or Public IP address. If it is a private one there is no way to open the port.

Hey, if you purchased the Chinese version there is no way to change it. You can install HiLink application on your phone and manage it with English.

Hey, I have never used AI life and I don't think this device can be added to the smart home system. I only use Huawei HiLink app before so sorry I can't help on this.
2.4G wifi do not support all frequency band only support from 5 to13 wifi channel
How to reload data for modem
You can use the Huawei HiLink app to access the SMS/Dialing section to reload. The same section can be found when access the web portal.
