I'm on my eighth or nineth playing by now. I'm running it in another tab with the volume low while watching other content. Doing my best to tickle the algorithm, VINCE!
I live in a rural area, so with three, ended up with the B535, but initially had problems, good connection, 20 mbps down (v good for edge of Bodmin moor), but, I had to reboot or reset at lest once a day, when it went to less than 1 mbps. By chance, I came across a blog for the 535. The guy said for maximum speed, 2 or three settings need to be changed; so, off I went to 192.168.8.1, and in advanced changed the aerial setting to internal, and the network setting to 4g only. Now I have 30mbps! The guy said to never leave the aerial setting on both. I have also changed the aerial setting on auto. Hope this helps others who have problems, and maybe Vince could try this on his to see what difference these settings make to his router. Really enjoy your videos, keep it up.
do internet providers do a package that has two sim cards sharing the same data package and contract? i want to avoid needing a sim for my phone and a separate sim for my router.
I've been considering this for a while for an organisation that has no cable broadband or even a phone line, but data limits were too low. Assuming the 3 network gives a good signal £15 unlimited would be great! Thanks for showing this.
So impressed I went straight online to order one, unfortunately, £15pm was a special offer that has expired, still not horrendous at £22pm, but the differnce was enough to make me stop and shop around a litle. But all that aside great video thanks.
Thanks for that Vince, I've been following your tips for a long time now. We're in the country and 'exchange line only' i.e. copper cable to the exchange. Although the exchange is fibre enabled, Openreach have no plans to improve our connection. BT quote us 5mbs down and 1mbs up but using your tips I got that up to 7.5mbs down with the phone line. However, I recently changed to a 4G router and a Three 12 month unlimited data contract. We only get a 3G signal and although the signal strength is 75-100%, the signal quality is poor at -85 to -90dBm. Moving the router and now with an external antenna makes little difference, but my download is now a fairly stable 15-20mbs and 1.9mbs upload. That might not sound great, but it's twice to three times better down and double the speed up! Thanks again for the videos and good luck with the channel.
@@ClayMann yeah this kind of stuff really helps people, if I didn't know how to do it I'd probably be looking for a short video by someone with a lot of subs just so I know they aren't wasting my time
We are lucky to live in both virgin and BT fttp.. we were with BT fttc but we got great deal to switch to their fttp and gets speeds of 960 down and 120 up for £40.. so far it has been a dream.
I've got the same setup. In my loft, it was bimbling around 15Mbps. I bought and external aerial and no matter where o put it upstairs, the signal & speed didn't get better - in fact it got worse. Like Vince said, try it all over the house... And similar to him, the best signal for the router alone was in the kitchen. I positioned my external router outside and tried various positions and the best one was about 7feet off the ground in the opposite side of the house to where the masts were located!! (Found this using the Cell Tower location finder app) and now I'm getting 50, 60 and sometime 70Mbps. Use either of those apps to find the optimal setting of RSRQ, RSRP and SNIR. A couple of tips - go into the router settings (if you've got a Huawei, use the Huawei Manager app or the 3rd party HuaCtrl app) so make sure the antenna is set to EXTERNAL. Another tip is to set the receiving signal to just channel 3 (1800Mhz, or 3 and 20 (800Mhz). 3 on its own works best for me. (Using the frequency locking option of the apps)
I appreciate this video a lot Vince. It was pure coincidence you uploaded this the day I was trying to find a eay to improve my 4G LTE signal. I went out and bought a netgear 4g ltr modem with dual antenna and a wifi router and its been wonderful. Thank you!
4G LTE has come a long way, and it was originally designed to be the final step in wireless broadband. As you can see in Vince's vid, a proper permanent solution will work very well, also helps if the ISP has a good deal for your data package.

Not that I know of,@@crappymeal - although I admit I've been out of the game for 6 or 7 years, and tech changes fast. I know some networks do a family bundle where you can essentially give some of your data to another SIM within that bundle. That could give you a potential option? Also many Smartphones allow tethering; essentially using your phone's data and turning itself into a mobile hotspot. You could then go for a large data SIM deal. I hope Vince can read these replies as he's probably more clued up than me - if not, try again as a fresh comment as he'll get a notification. Good luck, and I like the name. 😁👍

As a tip for anyone around here, as far as many Huawei routers go, try forcing the band to 1800/2100 MHz. Even if the signal is terrible, it may still perform better than 700/800 MHz. Or try forcing 800+1500 MHz.
Very good final result with the outdoor areal... the upload was 4x better than our 100Mbps Virgin Media connection which is a pitiful 5Mbps up. Is their openreach network premises to MDF and no pcp in between?
Could you do a video on changing PS4/Xbox hard drives Vince?
I am looking at that final speed test and can't help but notice how the upload is so much better than my upload from a "Fiber" (FTTC) connection that I have haha
Hi @MymateVince do you perhaps know how to set up NAT type to open on xbox for this specific router
Im literally just trying to do this but want to know if the sim can have a pin or if it has to be removed, just curious :)
Does the broadband work without putting the micro sim in mate , and thanks for that
No you have to put a SIM card in it
Vince, I’m intrigued by the loft speed being low. Did the builders fit that insulation with tin foil outer wrapper by any chance?
multipath does weird things
Me and my 2 uncles have set these up in our houses (we all live out in the country) before we all got below 3MBs and now I get between 30 to 50 one of my uncle gets around 70mbs and the other gets 90mbs we all use the same router that's in this video along with an exterior 5g ready antenna from poynting
Sounds like your antenna is "poynting" in the right direction.
great how to Vince.long may you continue!
Would you recommend using 5G mobile broadband as a replacement for fixed line with typical speed of around 29Mbps?
Hi mate Vince. 😊☺
Nice to see something like this again! I remember back when you made a cat 6 adsl cable (which I still use after all these years with no issues)
I'm on three and have got unlimited data, I would just tether from my mobile to my laptop or whatever device needs the internet - works well and doesn't need a router.
Can data card be used instead of gsm ?
Great video Vince im sure it will help lots of people out, don't let the thumbs down brigade get to you, keep going strong m8.
