This medieval version is the theme of Battle of Joutselkä in winter of 1555, where Juho Maununpoika and his 500 men army of Finns equipped with light armament, little cavarly and few light cannons on top of sleighs stopped a Muscovite Russian invading force of 6000 men (The sources at the time claimed it was 12000 but that i believed to be highly excaturated and the 6000 strong army is modern estimate) led by Ivan Bibikov were moving towards Vyborg. True story! This song saved the city of Viipuri/Vyborg in the the Continuation War of Finland vs USSR. After conquering the city back from USSR, war prisoners revealed that there were land mines all around the city. Radio-controlled mines were programmed to explode when a certain triad was played on that radio frequency. Each mine responds to a specific chord pattern. In order to be able to prevent the explosion of mines that are still hidden, it is invented to start transmitting an interference signal on the same radio frequency. Since there is no mixer required for the purpose at Headquarters, it is decided to try suitable music. Over the next three days, Säkkijärven Polkka, which plays non-stop, delighted the listeners of that frequency over 1,500 times. Once the harassment signal began, no more explosions could be seen in Vyborg. Thanks to Säkkijärven Polkka.
