  • Microcosm / Jin has released a "scale" miniature Ericsson hot air pumping engine in cast brass with controllable butane power! I'm wondering whether I need to upgrade my PM Research model... to refresh our memories, what problems do these tiny pumping engines have? so we take a look at both running with the German Flammenfresser to remind us of the other type of hot air engine model!

Welcome to the channel! I must have missed your comment somehow. Yes I like the hobby and it's easy to get into and not even that expensive compared to...I don't know, skiing, car racing...may be more expensive than gardening or flower pressing :)

Great video Mr. Thomas. Try installing a gate valve on the discharge of the water pump, restricting the outlet will allow you to control the speed. After the pump packing repair of course 👍

Why, Mr. 212°, you are too kind....the valve idea is a smart one. Too many things to do...

I'm thinking about buying a table top simple steam engine that doesn't require a degree in mechanical engineering or a model maker's machine shop. Thomas, can you please recommend something for a fixed income budget? I do have mechanical skills!

Hey welcome! I'd start with a Wilesco traction engine or jensen engine if you live in the USA. Be careful buying any "engineer made" (non-commercial) engine used from ebay. Unless the photos are pefect and it is sold as perfect...in which case it will be expensive. Any description that says "not tested" means it likely won't run, too!
Wilesco tractors are fun as steam engines because they self-propel and sound just like real traction engines, gears clanking, steaming and whistle, water sight glass...few hundred dollars. it's a big step up from these to Markie or Mercer 3/4 scale traction engines. around $1000 dollars. If looking fpr a cheap stationary engine, I'd consider the Wilesco vertical boiler engine Wilesco D455 these have a good reputation and look great.
I have a Wilsco traction engine, roller and a Mercer traction engine ruclips.net/video/SPaQQd7_EaQ/видео.html
these are available as machined kits or Looooong waiting list for completed kits. Reasonablly priced on English ebay. For steam engines, ebay uk and ebay de (Germany) are great.
For stationary models designed for model boat use, chinese models are ood value
