- I'm back to Rain World: Downpour, this time playing the second new slugcat, The Artificer. This slugcat is a violent creature armed with explosives and the ability to launch into the air. These abilities will be required however, with a certain group of enemies actively trying to hunt you down.

and considering that no scavs exist on 5P after this part of the timeline (hunter and after) means that it was likely the canon ending :(
Additionally, the reason why the Scavs are so distrustful of Hunter is probably because of Arti, seeing as Hunter is probably the first slugcat that they've seen since Arti and they most likely still told stories of the horrors that occurred last time they saw a slugcat. This, paired with the fact that, when continuing on the same save after killing the Scav chieftain, any Scavs that you run into will flee in fear at the sight of you, really goes to show just how terrifying Arti really was, how many she killed...
@@liamtordoff9974 also Hunter even looks like Artificer! The scavengers that survived Arti probably passed on stories of a "demon in the form of a red slugcat with a scarred eye". The tales spread over time, eventually passing from memory into myth, and the blood-red murdercat became a creature of legend.

plus the official (but technically not canon) dating sim easter egg calls artificer a "she", so the community overall just kinda accepted her being female.

@@FoxyKitti Not entirely sure myself, I've just heard alot of streamers call Artificer a she since she was referred to as the mother of the pups, especially in the date sim thing, but most wikis call Artificer "they" from what I'm seeing.

@@Joryax I mean, male *cats* in real life tend not to stay around for kittens. But slugcats are likely descendants of purposed organisms, and any natural ancestor they may have been engineered from might not necessarily have had such a behaviour.

Plus she even has an attack called maul. Where she kills enemies when knocked out. Someone said she snaps their necks. But it uses her eating animation. And it's even called maul. You can use it on scavengers aswell. Instead of snapping their necks. She's ripping their necks apart. Way more brutal and menacing than simply snapping necks.

Fun physics fact: explosions inside water cause non-liquids to rapidly compress! Which means: if you cause an explosion in water while in said water, your lungs will suddenly collapse and you’ll die!

18:54 What happened here is a product of the way health works in the game. Every creature has health, but they don't immediately die on reaching zero health. Instead, the game calculates a probability based on how far below zero their health is, and every frame, RNG uses that probability to decide if the creature dies. A creature at exactly 0 health is technically dying, but the probability of death is 0%, so they never die. That scav's health was probably just a smidge below 0, so the odds of death each frame were low, but it did eventually trigger.

Something that's probably going to come in handy, there are toggleable QoL settings in the Rain World Remix settings, like showing how much breath you have left, and faster shelter opening.

@@sampier3632 I think it's most likely coincidence since the characters have little else in common aside from being red and having one scarred eye, which are pretty common design traits.
I've been playing Arti so much it's powerful and really makes the gameplay even more enjoyable

That noise is the rain alarm. Iterators, likely because ancients inhabited the cities, had alarms to warn engineering personnel that the rain is about to arrive, this also happens in spearmaster at moon’s walls/legs
It's a cool headcanon, but it doesn't make much sense to me. (Removed because wrong, I thought the lethal rain was caused by 5P, but no, all iterators had been contributing to the change in climate). The ancients lived in cities above the clouds, so I find it kind of unlikely that they'd have organic engineers handcrafting iterators in a dangerous area, especially with how many iterators there were.
When I hear that sound, I personally just hear the sound of a lot of machinery shifting around, and since it's an electrical storm, it could be to protect the materials in those areas - it kind of sounds like huge metal structures moving. I think it's a mechanical, uncaring noise as the structure shifts different pieces around to protect itself from rain/the electrical storm.

@@leolen8029 Yeah, I mentioned it and I don't think that'd have been worthy of alarms. I did specify 'origin of the dangerous rain', and the rest of my comment deals with why I don't think it was warning of normal rain. The only real threat from rain would've been slippery surfaces and similar, but I doubt organic engineers were working on the iterators, and it wouldn't make sense for the alarm to be for the ancients living in the cities, since the cities are above the clouds.
I agree that it's probably rain-related, but not alarm-related. Basically, I think that's the sound of the structure putting on its raincoat, or the structure somehow shifting in response to the rain/electrical storm. Not intended to warn, just an uncaring, cold, mechanical sound. Machinery can be really damn loud when it moves around, and with how big the iterators are, it makes the most sense to me.
You're completely free to have it as a headcanon though, I'm purely elaborating on my own interpretation on it - I could be completely wrong.

@@midnight4685 no the rain was already pretty dangerous before 5 pebbles started to chug water like a thirsty man at an oasis. It's why the ancients moved to Live on top of the iterators in the first place

My headcannon is that Gourmand found Arti after the slugcat group escaped more dangerous predators on their journey away from the ruins. Arti tagged along because although they've surrendered to violence they realized they can harness it to protect the slugcat clan. Gourmand and his people can eat in peace and Arti has a family again.
My own headcanon is that, after defeating the Chieftain Scavenger, she took his place. Effectively becoming the boss of those who hurt them. Sometimes they hang around with 5P. She eventually manages to reach the point of ascension, and does manage to!
Artificer and Gourmand's pups are the same colors so maybe Gourmand is the father of Artificer's pups?

My favorite strat for the beginning camp is to go flying in toss a bomb ahead, throwing corpses and spears everywhere and run away in the chaos. Gourmand may have the greatest damage potential but artificer is the path of the violent maniac.
Still my favorite storyline just because it lets you bring pearls to Five Pebbles, it's fun seeing him get all excited over art and history

@@marimationsowo Yeah, especially with the white pearls, he goes into a lot more detail than Looks To The Moon and gives context to the writers, even tells you some of their names. I think my personal favorite is this one.

I think the iterators all named themselves and each otheelr and mostly based on their own personality. NSH is named that way because the are known for their jokes that, while irritating other iterators, never caused harm because he does care for the others (seen in NSHs Broadcast to LM after her can collapsed).
Big sister Moon is also called that because she is a quite old iterator and sees the other iterators as their younger siblings, someone they need to take care of.
For others like five pebbles and seven Red Suns etc, I assume that those are names given by the old ones that they never really bothered to change

It's possible to get past scav tolls. The easiest way would be to pick a high spot for you to stand on with a free "line of sight" on the area (which will be out of your camera's view, to make it easier to kill them without getting attacked yourself). Make sure you have enough food, and turn some items into explosives. And bombs away. Easy way to guess if you aimed properly is by the flying spears and corpses.

Rainworld has a mechanic where if an attack does enough damage to put an enemy below zero health, but not enough damage in one hit to be considered "critical damage", then the enemy's health will go negative, and they'll start bleeding out. As they do, their health goes more and more negative, and they have an ever increasing (but not guaranteed) chance to die
artificer is such a sad story, she loses her whole family because one of her children took a pearl.

Fun fact: Mirros vulture (vulture with Miros bird head and lasers for some reason) was bugged upon release. It had INSANE hatred towards slugcats and because of that, would target them first and very fierce. This is why it ignored cyan lizard corpses around Skurry, lmao. Slugcats number one priority

He wore the crown of the Slug Cats, and those that tasted the bite of his explosive spear named him... The Artificer.
What happens if you do what echo says and don’t kill the other guy seems there is a way to move past the violent cycle (with the karma increases and all that)
Don't quote me on this, but I think that if you find all the echoes and reach the depths you can ascend for a unique ending.

I just started my artificer run and barely made it to citadel with them in the little bit of time I had

I hope you try to do a full ascended run of this slug cat someday, it's workable, you just have to use a corpse for the final part, unique ending as well I've heard!
