Is there any difference in friction between a 16mm (eg a 405) and a T2 29mm soft attach (eg 2146). My question is really: On a Laser - would I notice any difference in force when pulling on a load if I swapped to the T2 from the 16mm 405? Cheers, Simon
Hi Simon, Thank you for watching the videos and reaching out. The simples answer is no. The loads are not high enough to really feel or measure a great difference between the blocks. The bearing systems are very close to one another as well. The real difference is the sheave size. Being larger, the 29mm will have a larger line size; this could make it easier to pull because it is more comfortable in your hand and may reduce fatigue over a full day of sailing. The 16mm will be lighter and lower profile. So, it too has its advantages. At the end of the day, both options are going to require the same force to pull. For this usage, we normally recommend the 16mm blocks, but either option is fine. You can choose either one, based on what best fills your requirements and whichever one you are most comfortable with. Thank you for reaching out.
