  • Falls Creek Falls is an easy 4 mile round trip hike with a HUGE payoff. You can extend the trip an additional 2 miles, but we did not. I will return to get in the additional 2 miles on another visit.
The parking lot is a large one with a vault toilet at the end of a 2 mile well maintained dirt road. We arrived at 9:00 am to only 2 cars in the lot. The elevation was 1390.
I loved the hike along the creek (Falls Creek). It was reminiscent of the Tamanawas Fall hike and Cold Springs Creek. The trail follows the creek with all the small unnamed waterfalls along the way. The sound of the rushing water is always a welcome sound.
Although the trail is obviously going up, it did not seem like it as I enjoyed the views and sounds of the creek. I did notice the elevation on the way down and enjoy the easy cruise back.
There are a few bridges to cross. One puts you onto the left side of the creek and the other takes you over the small gorge.
The trail splits at about 1.1 miles. The trail to the left takes you up and over to the rear of the falls. This adds an additional 600 feet of elevation gain and 2 miles to the hike. We continued straight for a half mile to the base of the falls, which is the real payoff. The elevation is about 1920.
This stunning 235 foot two tier falls is spectacular. The top fall is cascading over the tiers rocks and spreading out as it descends to its base. Then the rushing water falls over the lower falls straight down into the creek below.
Although is is technically three tiers: a 109-foot fan, a 135-foot drop across several segments, which come together for a final 91-foot drop into a narrow amphitheater gorge. Only the two tiers are obvious from the viewpoint. Maybe when I hit the back side view I will see full set.
