you were right about a hikikomori. a hikikomori (means "a stay at home or shut in) is a person who refuses to go outside their home for a long time. a person can be considered a hikikomori when they refuse to leave their house for a duration of 6 weeks.
Hey! I have a little Easter egg thats not scary. Everytime you go into the dream world and come back to reality in this route, always check the mirror and you'll see a difference in Sunny.
It's really funny how you talked about the whole setup with the door-opening scene and how it ever-so-slightly coaxes the player into not opening the door for Kel out of fear, because while in development, it was planned to have a scene-by-scene repeat of the jumpscare during this moment in Two Days Left. After getting caught by it again the game would immediately cutaway to the bedroom as if the entire thing as just an hallucination and THEN you could open the door for Kel. It was obviously scrapped because it tugged the player a little too hard into not opening the door.
in hikikomori route you can (and i definetly encourage you should) is going back on white space every day (y'know 3 days left 2 days left) and stabbing omori and that'll wake sunny up for some really crazy things and also fun fact: apparently sunny's trauma was soo strong that he completely blocked out the existance of the toy box and the closet and will just say "there is nothing here" or something along those lines
So excited to see you return to this series! It'll be a while before you see new content/the difference between the two routes, but I'm happy about this journey all the same!
My theory about the Sunny/Omori relationship is that Omori is all that Sunny represses. Clearly Omori isn't an alternate personality - him and Sunny share the same personality (or lack thereof) and it's heavily implied that Sunny named Omori himself after the brand of piano that Mari used. But at the same time, Omori isn't something Sunny has control of. Omori is the king of Headspace and Black Space is his castle - he even sits on a throne of hands in Black Space. Black Space itself is the pit of repressed thoughts, urges, and nightmares that Omori crawled out of. And the thing is - we probably don't play as Omori. We play as Sunny, either represented as Omori or trapped in his body. Think about it - Basil disappears after finding out the truth, transformed into the 'stranger' entity and banished to Black Space among everything else Sunny wants to forget. His Headspace friends forget him as well, and after a while the quest titled 'Basil' disappears from Mari's hint list. He didn't go missing, Omori erased him from Headspace and killed him again and again. The biggest piece of evidence are the hands that Omori controls. We don't have any control over them. They chase us in White Space for some reason - perhaps it's meant as a prison... or a safe space where Sunny can't get hurt. I don't think Omori has malicious intent - quite the opposite in fact. He's protecting Sunny. Every time something bad happens in Headspace, we're pulled back to White Space. He keeps Sunny from finding out the truth before he's ready, and it's implied that every time Sunny isn't ready, he erases his memory, restarts Headspace, and hides the truth somewhere else. However, he can't control what he is - a creature of Black Space, a husk of Sunny's emotions. He does anything to protect Sunny, hence the gruesome imagery in Black Space. Of course, I don't remember every little bit of lore and haven't seen the Hikki route, so please, add or subtract from my theory.
I think that omori is a defense mechanism, keeping sunny from getting to the truth, when we play as omori in headspace, we are actually just playing as sunny but using the form of omori, black space would be a world where Sunny's trauma haunts him, opposite of white space, omori also does some other stuff to keep sunny safe, such as forcing Mari to staying in the picnics.
@@vriskafic8ion i think that omori(def mechanism) while sunny is in headspace as omori (character) becomes a presence or something, being capable of influencing everything, such as, how omori probably influences Aubrey to say "I'm scared let's go back" when you're about to go into black space
This will give a chance to more accurately diagnose what WTF value her playthrough has! From what could be seen last time, her WTF value was at least 9 because she saw the spinning Squizzard at the Squizzard farm!
Since you still seem uncertain about the two Mari's, maybe this can shed some light on it... The Mari you first see, the colored Mari, is just like the first versions of Aubrey, Kel, and Hero- Sunny's friends as he last remembered them. You're not far off in guessing her also to be part of Sunny's trauma, the key source that removed the dream Basil before he could reveal the truth...or something along those lines. The Mari you saw on the pier was the true Mari- the one that passed on, and tries to guide Sunny through his dreams. This is just what I saw, but she's also the something that kept Sunny from running away from the final confrontation with the real Basil- she knew you needed to face him sooner or later, and there was no chance it would happen later. Speaking of 'something,' that tells me the next video will likely have less edited parts at the beginning. After all, in order to find the most hidden truths, you'll have to go through many twists and turns. Don't give up on it too quickly, though! Finish the puzzle you started, and you'll be able to find strength in an abyss.
Also theres a word in Japanese, 思い (omoi) that has lots of meanings- love, thoughts, imagination, affection, and more. And 森 (mori) which means forest. I always thought omori was a sort of combination of those words- because in white space you start in the forest and the game takes place mostly in his imagination working through his feelings
The thing about Mari is morbid in such a weird way. When she knocks on the door, like you said, that Mari is not interested in helping Sunny. It's almost like that Mari is a delusion, in the sense that she literally HAUNTS Sunny's life, mixed in with the fact Sunny most likely believes that nobody will EVER forgive him for what he did, which is why HellMari (this delusion) knocks on the door, almost like it's trying to manipulate Sunny into continuously thinking "Mari will never forgive me" and things like that, and to make a horrific attempt at convincing Sunny that he's a horrible person in such a special way. Honestly, it's sometimes very shocking what your own brain can do to you though. Edit: When Sunny stayed inside, I feel like it definitely was willing because you can sort of assume that he might not have wanted to speak to his friends, obviously due to the fact of what happened to Mari and he might be scared to confront the truth.
Sunny imagined himself as omori to protect himself from bad memories He imagined himself as fearless and strong It's not confident that omori is another person inside sunny or _something_ else
Hearing you talk about Hikikomori and Neet really hit hard because I fall in sort of both depending on my mind, I don’t know what caused me to end up like this but I haven’t left my house since over 2 years now 😕
It's interesting that in the hikiomori route Mari says that hero needs 2 overcome his fear of spiders n asks omori 2 do the same with hero Where in the Sunny route Mari praises omori for already had overcome his fear of spiders n says hero 2 overcome his fear like her brother
I feel like the biggest difference with NEET and Hikkikomori is : NEETS can still do social events (go out with friends, go to parties etc), Hikkikomori...usually don't... (That's my understanding tho)
If you make it back to Orange Oasis, make sure you try to interact with that running guy on fire. You saw him last run, but didn’t realize you could talk to him.
The thing with looking for Basil is Basil is more then just a reminder of trauma, he’s also Sunny’s best friend. He is both essential to and incompatible with the happy escapist facade that is headspace
I’ve seen that in the dream world if you keep looking into the floating mirror a secret pops up that I don’t think I’ve seen you try yet. I can’t remember how many times you have to look into the mirror in a row, but after a while it’ll pop up.
I've struggled so much with whether or not I play the hikkikomori route because man if I cried during the good ending and got scared at the good route, imagine this route

With your interpretation of the term “Hikkinomori” and “NEET” I would love to see you react or analyze the Kagerou Project, a series of songs, manga, novels, and an anime (which is pretty ehhh but that’s not the point) The protagonist of the project is a self proclaimed HIKKINEET, which is a combination of the two phrases, and lives in his room after having dropped out of high school and does nothing. I do not want to spoil it, however if you want to skip the hours of content and get to why I bring this up, I suggest you listen to the songs “toumei answer”, “losstime memory”, and “additional memory”, as it will show what I am trying to explain. In a society that revolves around the workforce, it seems the one role a human has is to be productive and their worth comes in what they can contribute. The pressure can get to people and it’s important to address, so your monologue on the terms was fascinating to listen to.
From what i know of Japanese culture, the main difference between a Hikikomori and a NEET is the willingness to go outside. For a Hikikomori, going outside their room or house, or whatever is their comfort zone is, is frightening and often related to some form of trauma. It is a shut in who for whatever reason can not leave their comfort area due to some kind of fear or what will happen if they did. For a NEET, it is simply more of they don't want to be apart of the working society. A NEET, often depicted as an Otaku as well in media, is able to go outside and attend events or buy things (with whomever's money cause they don't have a job) but essentially refuses to get a job nor further education or skills to get a job. So from my understanding (of like, 2 classes on Asian and Japanese culture... and then anime) that is the main difference between the two terms. There isn't a specific age attached to the terms, as there are Hikikomoris that are adults. But essentially Hikikomoris are afraid to leave their room or house and NEETs are those who often refuse to get a job, education, nor training.
Woooooo yeah!!!! Let's go!!!! OMORI again, and your playthrough of it is my favourite in youtube! I love seeing and understanding the perspective of a therapist on it ^^

omg omg you are playing it..yay yay. I am so excited.. I cant believe I lived long enough to see this happen. I never played this route so I will enjoy watching you play and experience it together..even if I have a hard time with the triggers in this game
15:04 wth this called me out- Tbh I have a natural distaste for humanity at this point. All humanity brings is pain, so why should I care about them? I don’t view myself as human, I’m a lesser being, but nobody see’s it. I’m usually forced into doing stuff and I’m afraid I’ll never be able to live the true life I want. If I can, it’d be cool to live as a hunter gatherer in the woods, reverting back to our early ancestors lifestyle in some way. The best I’m ever gonna get would be maybe being an animal handler. I’ve lost my use in this society, and I don’t really want to be apart of it anymore due to the pain I’ve suffered. Thanks for coming to my ted talk ✨
Hikikomori is not necessarily out of job, they are oftenly an artists or any other sorts of freelance or full time workers, working from home through internet or mail, any job that doesn't require human interaction. I think Yume Nikki was some kind of writer or something. Very excited to hear your thoughts on this route.
Hikikomori comes from two verbs, hiku (引く, to pull) and komoru (籠もる, to seclude yourself). So it indeed has the nuance of pulling yourself away from society and just staying shut-in in your house. That said, in anime, they're typically depicted as people who just get addicted to anime and/or video games and spend all of their days just doing that. That kind of hikikomori also has a name, "Otaku" (In Kanji, お宅, meaning "your house"). In the west, we use that word to signify someone really into japanese culture, but in Japan, that's actually a negative word. There's actually an Otaku you can meet in the Sunny route, and when japan uses the word Otaku, this character is pretty much the japanese definition of Otaku: someone who thinks he's above everyone when all he does is feed off entertainment. There's another word to describe them in an ironic way: Jitaku Keibiin (自宅警備員, "Home security officer", so now they can pretend they have a job) Sunny's difference is that unike these Otaku, the reason is not that all he wants is already inside his house, it's that he's scared of society. So it's not sedentarism pushed to the extreme, it's sheltering yourself from a perceived dangerous outside world. I remember hearing about a phobia that kicks in when you leave your home, that could perfectly be one reason of this type of hikikomori.
HOLY SHEET I just got omori and I wanted to play hiki but I got *~stressed~* out from the idea about how it's more spooky but I might try hikikomori route Much respect from basil-♡ ( *name unrelated to omori*
tbh I'm not sure at the point of watching this video what does "hikikomori" mean. Formally, or in the dictionary, "hikikomori" means someone that is disconnect to the society and only contact with family members or close friends, but as a usual usage, "hikikomori" refers to anyone that don't leave their home or their own room often which has independent meaning with NEET. You can be a "hikikomori" but not a NEET or vice versa. Like if you work remotely and every interaction required for your work could be done with internet then you can for sure be a "hikikomori" at the same time. Same applies to education and training too. There are schools and training program you can attend online. btw most of the time when we talk about "hikikomori" in Japanese we almost always use the sloppier definition, like refer to people that is a very indoor person. Very rarely will we use "THE hikikomori" definition.
24:42 "Wouldn't that make you want more with (the friends)?" Yes. In fact, so much more, you'd rather not study and spend time in headspace. Wait, you mean the real, complicated people who we have no power to control if they accept us vs the always defined 100% accepting easy mode? No. (Source- an ongoing habit of cutting ties, and that's without a vivid disassociation world) As for what Omori is, I view it as a "perfect version of Sunny"- which can retread a lot of what you talked about when you saw the creation of PerfectHeart. Basically, the better Sunny that *can* be with his friends. The Sunny that didn't (spoilers). The Sunny that can literally hold the darkness at bay (even if it's actually to their own detriment).
Also, i was wondering, would you consider playing deltarune in the future? It's also very interesting and i think it would be fun to see you analyse it
my emotions are disterrupted because for example i feel blue and about to start crying but suddenly a voice tells me that i deserve all these and do not cry for what i've done. So i stop crying and this time i cry for my very bipolar emotion condition and congratulations a emotion-torture loop. Please give me some advice
I’m pretty sure the creator might be Chinese American (Omocat) so saying your not from the culture is kinda strange when you probably live within the same continent.
I’m in the middle of my hiki run so like… I better hurry and finish it lol So excited to see your reaction :) Edit: the translation of hikikomori (via google translate) is “social withdrawal” What I’ve heard so far about it is that it’s also referred to a shut-it where someone doesn’t leave their home for months, or years, at a time.
Do you have a mod / trusted user to let you know of any side content/interesting lorebits? I know u have the comments and all, but yeah, especially stuff around black space....
Spoiler . . . . . . . . . . . There's no goals in the hikikomori route. it just a empty distraction util the last day. so go around in the head space having ''fun''
The idea of Mari saying "Bitch, it's me, your trauma" made me laugh really hard LMAO

not only that, but also thinking of her saying that after kicking down sunny's door at 2am makes it better

she NEEDS to fight the slime girls robots
OH YES, MORE OMORI
OH NO, HIKKIKOMORI ROUTE
HELL YEAH HIKKIKOMORI DONT LEAVE YOUR HOUSE B)
omg omg you are playing it..yay yay. I am so excited.. I cant believe I lived long enough to see this happen. I never played this route so I will enjoy watching you play and experience it together..even if I have a hard time with the triggers in this game
Just finished watching the first series, and now this comes out, can't wait for more already
15:04 wth this called me out-
Tbh I have a natural distaste for humanity at this point.
I was actually incredibly excited to see this

Thank you for return this game. I hope you have nice moments on the dream world.
4am, got my cuppa tea, perfect upload time for this slug to chill too 🍵🐌
Neato glad to see you doing this
Hikikomori comes from two verbs, hiku (引く, to pull) and komoru (籠もる, to seclude yourself). There's another word to describe them in an ironic way: Jitaku Keibiin (自宅警備員, "Home security officer", so now they can pretend they have a job)
Sunny's difference is that unike these Otaku, the reason is not that all he wants is already inside his house, it's that he's scared of society. So it's not sedentarism pushed to the extreme, it's sheltering yourself from a perceived dangerous outside world. I remember hearing about a phobia that kicks in when you leave your home, that could perfectly be one reason of this type of hikikomori.
HOLY SHEET I just got omori and I wanted to play hiki but I got *~stressed~* out from the idea about how it's more spooky but I might try hikikomori route
Much respect from basil-♡ ( *name unrelated to omori*
Do you have extreme anxiety and panic attacks?
Why?
No reason...
@@waterandcereal I regularly wake up sick from sheer anxiety so yes
I did N O T expect you to do this
my first hikkiomori route failed bc i cant bear ignoring kel
Hitting that "DO NOTHING" was so hard 😩
tbh I'm not sure at the point of watching this video what does "hikikomori" mean.
19:03 - Omori: A Brief Summary
I haven't seen this route actually! I wish you luck with your replay through of all the other things, it's gonna be a lot of work >
24:42 "Wouldn't that make you want more with (the friends)?"
Yes. In fact, so much more, you'd rather not study and spend time in headspace. Wait, you mean the real, complicated people who we have no power to control if they accept us vs the always defined 100% accepting easy mode? No. (Source- an ongoing habit of cutting ties, and that's without a vivid disassociation world)
As for what Omori is, I view it as a "perfect version of Sunny"- which can retread a lot of what you talked about when you saw the creation of PerfectHeart. Basically, the better Sunny that *can* be with his friends. The Sunny that didn't (spoilers). The Sunny that can literally hold the darkness at bay (even if it's actually to their own detriment).
“Mari hasn’t been home in a long time”
Me: 👁💧👄💧👁
OMG MY FAVORITE OMORI GAMEPLAY IS BACK
yoo I'm so excited over this
Also, i was wondering, would you consider playing deltarune in the future? It's also very interesting and i think it would be fun to see you analyse it
I’m excited to be able to play this on switch soon!!
Omori’s back!
my emotions are disterrupted because for example i feel blue and about to start crying but suddenly a voice tells me that i deserve all these and do not cry for what i've done. So i stop crying and this time i cry for my very bipolar emotion condition and congratulations a emotion-torture loop.
Please give me some advice
I’m pretty sure the creator might be Chinese American (Omocat) so saying your not from the culture is kinda strange when you probably live within the same continent.
You can hikikomori translate to shut-in. A person who doesn't want to go out and rather stay inside.
Sorry for my poor English!
UR BACK
At the later time of the Hikikomori route there is something called ,,Blacker Space” so be sure to check that out. Idk how to get there tho…
POV you never opened the door for Mari because you knew she was dead, so you didn't think that opening the door would do something bad
Also POV you have poor hearing and didn’t hear Mari’s knocking so you didn’t even know you could open the door for anyone XD
Oh no it's happening
Hikikimori route! Les go!
Omori is an hikikOMORI in this route ,hehe do y'all get me?
Can I just bring attention to the fact that she pronounces it the hikikokomori route
omg im so excited
I’m in the middle of my hiki run so like… I better hurry and finish it lol
So excited to see your reaction :)
Edit:
the translation of hikikomori (via google translate) is “social withdrawal”
What I’ve heard so far about it is that it’s also referred to a shut-it where someone doesn’t leave their home for months, or years, at a time.
By the way, it's Hikkikomori*, just to clarify
OH MY GOD ITS HAPPENING EVERYBODY HOLD HANDS
Life is good
But it could get better
Save the little veggie children! You little stinker!
