  • It's not often I have two of the best stripped down ready for a side-by-side comparison video, but this opportunity was there, so I figured I would show why people might desire or seek out an older heavy duty garden tractor versus a newer lighter duty one or paying the huge sum of money for a new heavy-duty tractor. Not really a comparison, really just a showcase of what these tractors represented.

I've always wanted to see a 300 series with the fender pan off 😂

Its good to note that there are three iterations of the rear PTO for these, all of which share the same clutch. The final drive is what differentiates them. The dual pulley was utilized for the hydraulic tiller on all 420/430 models and could be used on a 318/322/332 if so optioned as most of these were powered with an undermount pump driven via mule drive. The single pulley was used for MCS systems including the tilt dump and hydraulic lift dump and the 2000 RPM gearbox was used mostly for the 48" Mech. Tiller, rear finish mower (50"/60") and other 2000 RPM driven attachments. Also, some MCS had drive systems that were operated off of 2000 RPM gearboxes but seem to be more the exception.

Thanks, I didn't put a lot of specs for each tractor in there, but I do have other videos that cover that. Thanks for watching.

Great info, wish JD would’ve put the locking differential on the 300 series tractors.

Yes, totally agree, I guess they just wanted us to spend the big 400 series money. Oddly enough the 322 and 420 were very similar in price. With the 420, you got a lot of features, with the 322, you got an engine that might last a few generations, if not a lifetime. Thanks for watching.

I like the yanmar gas better than the onan, but both are really cool tractors!

Hands down bro, hands down!! Both are cool tractors though, I not only wish they had a bigger version of the Yanmar for the 420, but wish they put a larger version in the 425 and 445 next gen. The Kawasakis are nice, but those Yanmar's are fantastic engines, really solid and very durable. Thanks for watching.

@ man a yanmar gas would be awesome in a 425 why on earth didn’t they do that

Those frames make my x495 cry like a little girl...

Are they bigger than the X495? I would have figured the X495 would be similar to these based on the lineage of these tractors together. Thanks for watching.

I would love too, but the ones I usually do videos on are ones I have owned at one time or another. If I stumble upon some LX models, I will certainly do a video or maybe several. Thanks for watching.

    Selling the 420?

The 420 is going back to my buddy Thomas, I believe he plans to part it out. That's usually what he'll do with a tractor like that.
