The audience panning at the start is priceless to me. It puts you right there in front of the greatest improvisational hard rock band to ever walk this earth! Sadly I never had the privilege to see them after what happened in Boston in ‘75. That footage gives me the same feeling I had when I was 12 and my older brother handed me the Kiss Alive lp stating “you want this”? “I don’t like it”. I would stare at the front and back of the album while listening and was instantly turned into a rock and roll enthusiast! Lynyrd Skynyrd was my first concert 10/22/76 in Boston.
70k people in the audience and only one audio source and one 8mm filmer…boggles the mind. It’s a revelation to finally see some footage of this show and with the way page is moving you can tell he’s in good form. That clip where speedy films the big screen is such a huge tease. I can only dream that someone did throw a tape in to record it. Part of the Who’s show from 1975 has surfaced but they could have had their own video crew. Just a fascinating document and a huge thank you to all involved.
Yeah hard to believe, also hard to believe zep doesn’t have a multitrack recording a copy of the film for all of their shows from this tour or at least the ones “filmed” Houston, Pontiac and Seattle.
@@derekjackson1039they definitely didn’t multitrack those. You’d see additional micing around the band not seen at other ‘77 shows. And Houston wasn’t filmed either.
It was an awesome day for a 17 year old me. I had just had my appendix out and I hurt, but it was worth it. I came out and my shoelaces were gone because they had been stepped on so much. It was endless people, fireworks and even a bonfire of pizza boxes on the field.
Very cool. Well, there's the film crew all over, funny to see after all the speculation over the years about pro shot footage on the forums. I have a feeling we'll see it someday, but that is the master hoard and whoever has it, knows it. Thanks!!!
I really hope the professionally recorded footage of this show is released one day - I can't imagine them not saving their largest record-breaking show to tape.
From 'rumors' I heard ... it was filmed 'strictly' for the big screen above, and that wasss it. Peter Grant made damn sure there were no tapes spinning backstage, recording the performance. Shame, you'd think if they were going to shoot the damn thing, they'd hit a record button at the same time, if not just for the band.
This is incredible! I am a younger fan who had a very strong obsession around 15 years ago (2009ish). I had every recording and bootleg and fantasised about something like this coming to the surface. It was my favourite tour and setlist, and this was one of the better performances before they hit NYC and LA later in the year. I had thought everyone's vaults were empty - after all, what are the chances of something like this coming to light nearing 50 years since this concert?! Nowadays I'm much more at peace with what we have of Zeppelin - it's more than enough for a lifetime, and it's sort of ironic that the little moment where the camera pans to the screen is all we might ever see of the professionally shot footage. But that's still more than I ever thought I would see! We can only be glad.
1977 was the year of the Dragon for Led zeppelin. Jimmy first wore the Dragon jacket for 4 shows, with plain white pants then wore the finished pants , Dragon, the last 10 plus!
It was more than four shows - he wore the plain white pants from the first show in Dallas until Indianapolis, then debuted the finished pants in Cincinnati night 1, plain pants night 2, then the finished pants for the rest of the tour when he wore the suit except for the last night at MSG
This is fantastic!!! Finally some great footage of the 1977 shows! We can finally see what everyone was seeing during these concerts for someone like me that never got to go to one of these shows. I'm amazed that Richard Cole didn't take the footage. It's great to see the video screen footage to know that it was being displayed to the audience. I'm only hoping it was taped. They probably asked Peter Grant to video tape it and he probably said "No." and maybe they complied, unlike the Seattle Kingdome people. Peter Grant said something like "They asked if I wanted to record it. I said 'no'. I go down to the video booth and they're recording! I said "I'll take these tapes. Thank you very much." haha!
Thank you for sharing, amazing footage and sound. I am curious there looks like people on stage 🎥 filming the show. Maybe there is a show in Jimmy's vault we can see one day.
This is an incredible musical gift for us fans and the absolute best way to start the New Year! Thank you for sharing this rare footage of the mighty Led Zeppelin legends! Happy New Year to you all! ♥️🎸
Without a doubt they are great and magical on stage, the energy and power they transmit is alucinante, Led Zeppelin great forever. !what a great start to the year! Thanks happy New Year.👏👏👏👏👏😍
As for the artifacting you've done an excellent job battling the RUclips compression. I've seen footage from top performers uploaded on here from the major record labels that doesn't look nearly this good with big black blocks popping up all over the screen in dark scenes. Terrible. Uploaded without care is what I think. Thanks for the care!! Totally enjoyable!
I was too young to see Zeppelin, but was able to see Page and the black crows, awesome show. One of my coworkers was at this show, saying the sound was not good, the silverdome was not designed for concerts IMO. I saw Metallica at the silverdome in 2001-2002 I had seen Metallica at Pine Knob in 1988 the sound was great at Pine Knob, at the silverdome not so good. I will say there has to be a soundboard out there and those cameras on the stage filming it. God Bless Zeppelin greatest rock band
These guys conversation must have said what 70 k tonight ok let’s get our shit together and play like we’re worth it. And most of the time they did. Thanks
About a three wk break in the tour was in order after this enormous gig - picking up in Birmingham, AL. on May 18. You can feel them putting their all into this performance and the sheer scale of this structure. Some have said you could fly an airplane in the place it was so vast. Hey, during the TYG solo and by the bass cabinets…we see a rather large figure seemingly scouring the audience and wiping at his nose repeatedly (gee, I can only wonder why.) Is that Peter Grant? Or it could be Biffo Bindon. I’m not exactly sure. Anyone else see this?
Saw them 5 times in this ill fated tour….they were doing pretty great until Karac died just a few weeks later and the extended dates were obviously cancelled,…Robert was a changed man after his sons death….but somehow was willing to carry on after over a year of mourning….the real death in the band went in JPs arm…not his fault considering the times….but things would never be the same as we knew when In Through the Out Door was released…the real time bomb lied in Bonham’s unhappiness with being on the road far too much…which contrary to Grant’s mantra of not selling the band out was exactly what all that touring was…it was he and his greed that ultimately and ironically killed the machine known as Zeppelin….but all said and done, they will always be the best most talented visionary four musicians to share the stage together…GOAT
Just saying it WAS filmed "A" copy DID exist. But alas ....we'll never see....why oh f.why have we been with LACKLUSTRE KINGDOME. CANT WAIT FOR A.I TO PUT ALL THESE CLIPS TOGETHER AND MAKE SOME MAD CONCERT.🙏
Hey, got a question/comment: I see the actual 'camera man' on the stage holding a film camera, which was probably used for the Big Screen. This was done so I could see Jimmy from the nose bleed section of where I was sitting, way up there. I was there (ya ya I know), one of my first concerts, still got my ticket stub! Would love to have this on DVD (ouch!). Any knowledge of that camera (pro shot) being recorded and being available? Anyone know of this? Come on, someone has to have it. Anyway, thanks for sharing this and synching the sound, I have a distinct memory of that show when Robert was telling the crowd to settle down, and now I see it, like it was yesterday (or a couple of yesterdays anyway). Thanks so much for this. Please get the pro shot film, PLEASE!
Yeah, I think you are correct. In all the 'boots' that came out throughout the 90s (Earl's Court, Kingdome, Knebworth, Albert Hall), never saw or heard rumors of Pontiac (Detroit) 1977, too bad. However, after Seattle 1977 came out (pro shot, full show), collectors began hearing rumors of Houston 1977, full show, pro shot as well, but that one never appeared. The Eagles & Aerosmith were recorded at Houston Summit (and widely available) but no Zep. I 'heard' that the owner(s) of the Summit in Houston RECORDED all shows (on film) throughout the 70s, including Led Zep, but still nothing (love to go through their closets!), just hoping as time goes by, and people get older (and possibly less greedy) these archives from our teenage years will come out...again thanks very much for this footage from Detroit 1977!
Peter Grant & Richard Cole hired the Worldstage video production company to provide giant screens, camera operators and equipment for the Silverdome & Kingdome shows. They also did all the video production for Opryland back then. For the Detroit Lions games and other events, the Silverdome utilized 3/4" Sony U-Matic tape. Most Sony U-Matic tapes deteriorated totally within 10 years. They had "sticky shed" issues which caused the tapes to flake apart after 6 to 10 years.
Man, I see guys on stage with big cameras. What a shame. Having more Zep footage is about the only thing I regret growing up pre cell phone and computer. @@ledzepfilm

I guess so Zep could hear themselves 🙂
So many cameras on stage!
Noticed the same thing. I bet Jimmy has a vault of concert footage. Would be great if he would release this to the public.
