    Awesome video and diagnosis. I thought you might have tested for resistance after checking for CAM COMMS, the pins were there and you could have checked ohms again after pulling the plug for verification of a resistance problem in the TCM. Going to part 2 now, great job.

    Definitely enjoyed the video. One simple question Tommy, could you of unplugged the battery and and checked the terminating resistors at the data link at pins #6 and#14? For the 60 ohm specification?

    • @PositiveLeadDiagnostics

      I think that you can, if I remember correctly me and scannerdanner did that with his linespy and you do get a network resistance reading, the only difference is that its going through the gateway, it ties into that somehow not real sure how though

    great diagnosis! i’m only about 5 years too late but i have some questions! a mechanic rebuilt my transmission after i encountered Transmission issues after an accident, programer was unable to program new TCM so the mechanic got a new TCM because his opinion was that the first new TCM was defective. now car has these exact same symptoms, any idea what i should check? thanks in advance!

    • @PositiveLeadDiagnostics

      I would be checking the wiring to the control module. Powers and grounds and the can wires. Easy visual checks first to look for wiring damage from the accident.

    Hi Tom! Thanks for the explanation. I have a question. I have a no communication TCM problem and as i saw in this video, i should check:
    - can high
    - can low
    - power
    - ground
    - resistance test
    If all of that is ok, the problem is the tcm.
    Should i check anything else before confirming it is the TCM? It is a 2016 audi a7.
    Thanks!!

    I'm having exactly the same problem with my Polo 6r 1.4, unfortunately I'm in Malawi where Knowledge and expertise of such issues is lacking, don't even know where to start from. Changed the battery, but the problem is still there. The code is U0101 lost communication with tcm and code U111100 Function limitation due to missing message. Some are saying it may be the transmission fluid, I'm just not sure. What just surprises me is that this problem is intermittent, if I start the car and the gear indicator is on the dash and drive for about 5 to 10 minutes, the gear disappears and the gear lever led light of that particular gear starts blinking amd the shifter will be stuck in the gear it was in when this happened, I switch the car off, after some hours, it's normal again, I start it then after some minutes it misbehaves again. One thing though, every morning it starts without hustle but after some minutes it's possessed again. Checked the fuse link panel above the battery and some cables had debris, cleaned them and turned the car on, the engine check disappeared, the gear appeared on the dash then started flashing, after some minutes the CEL reappeared and the gear indicator disappeared again. One thing I noted on the fuses above the battery was that one cable which has a red cover, had a dark color at the tip of the cover and the copper wires had some greenish stuff, can this limit the flow of power? The problem is I don't know what the cable is for but it's covered in red.

      Hello. Did you repair your car? I'm from Ukraine and I have the same problem (

    • @mariachiwaula7140
      @mariachiwaula7140 Год назад +1

      @real_mutant yes the problem was that apart from the cable which overheated above the battery, the some of the thin cables going to the fuses beside the battery were wearing out and were damaged, changed both cables (above the battery and those going to the fuses) and the problem was solved. It seems the 2 fuses were for the TCM and another for the ABS, so they were not getting enough voltage, which is why they were working on and off, the ABS sensors were all fine but the warning light was on the dashboard, after fixing the wires they disappeared. I wish I could attach the pictures of the cables I'm talking about but YT won't allow me, but I hope you've understood

  • @JOHNPHUFNAGEL

    Why do you check the resistance of the network/ECM when your suspecting a TCM? if there was a problem with the resistance wouldn't that have shown when you tested the can with the pico? also if there was a resistance problem would you have other no com with other modules? There are a bunch of other questions I have but I will wait for the answers on these. Sorry if these sound like dumb or basic questions but I haven't had any experience with networking on cars YET. Thanks great video

    • @PositiveLeadDiagnostics
      @PositiveLeadDiagnostics  7 лет назад +2

      the reason I checked resistance was to make sure the network was good from the tcm out, could it be possible my can wires to the tcm are broken near the connector somewhere and the can messages I see are actually from the tcm and not the other modules? that was my thought when doing that. with the tcm unplugged the only fault I have is tcm no comm, the tcm being unplugged would also be a substitute for an open in the can wires near that tcm, so if I didn't have the resistance at the connector that would potentially say there is a wiring issue

    I have a vw Cc 2010 with the code u0101. I ran the car 200 miles after I fixed the misfires by replacing oem coils and spark plugs. All of a sudden on the freeway my car seemed to go into neutral but went back to normal then the u0101 code popped up. If I turn the car off an on I can drive a little while before it does it again. Do this sound like the Tcm is going out? It runs fine no hard shifting

My question is before done any test like you did. Is there any warning or indication when the dsg clutch worn out that the car will override for safety?
    I had obd eleven and done a basic settings, the message is U0101-lost comm with TCM static from engine module 1, and at gateway 19 shown faults: 01315 TCM no signal, this goes the same message on 09 central electric.

      not sure if it would have made a difference, the terminating resistors are in the ecm, if the tcm is open I don't think it would change, if the tcm was shorted then I would imagine my entire network would have been pulled to ground, causing that network be down and potentially the car wouldn't even run

    Sounds similar to my KIA OPTIMA 2016 dual clutch. A few ago, an almost new battery was drained. It barely took 1 second for it to start up after the 1 second charge
    The car drives, but doesn't want to go into reverse. Today, I just noticed that doesn't recognize that it's in manual mode. Strange, because my car was fine the day before. The only thing that I can think of is after the car wash possibly wet something. Anyways. The code that I got is, P073e, with the actuator stuck in close position.
