- We are in San Diego and about to embark on our first-ever repositioning cruise! What does this mean? Norwegian Jewel is about to start sailing the Alaska season from Vancouver so we are going to take a one-way trip to get her there. This cruise is unique in its itinerary and we get one stop each in California, Oregon, Washington, and Alaska. It's going to be a great time!
NCL Jewel is the second of this class of ship we have sailed on... and it was completely refurbished so it is like sailing on a brand new ship! We love the size of the Jewel class. It is mid-sized so not too big, but not too small either. The cabins feel bigger than the newer Breakaway class and the venues are huge!

Last October I was on the Norwegian Jewel for the 2022 Kiss Kruise. On Halloween night, Kiss played in full makeup and costumes in the Stardust theater! They also played a sailaway show as we were leaving San Pedro and going to Cabo San Lucas in regular street clothes and no makeup on a custom built stage that was built over the forward pool on the lido deck! There are many videos of the cruise on RUclips!
I love the Jewel and all of her sister ships in the Jewel calss. I would sail on them every time I cruised if they had the itinerary I wanted. I've been on the bigger ships and they just can't compare.
We love this class too! It’s just the right size!
In response to the mega ship fans, I always say: If I want to go on vacation with 5000 people, I’d stay home and drive around my town 😂

I love this ship! We are sailing out of Tampa in March of 2025! I am handicapped and can actually get in and out of the pool with the stairs. Most ships just have ladders which I cannot do. Thanks so much for your videos! Love them!
These two have really got me hooked on the idea of a cruise now.I always thought they were too stuffy but i've seen a different side since watching these videos
San Diego was my home town, we live in Arizona now, but we have to go back to San Diego, and get our fix.

The Jewel was our very first cruise. I am gonna go back on her one day. I love the outside area of the buffet on the aft.

We used to live in San Diego, and I agree it is a beautiful city with lots of everything. When we did Modernos on the Breakaway we gave it a score of 5 out of 10. The meat was dry, tough and no flavor. Good idea but I feel they overcooked and under seasoned the meat. Thanks for sharing!

We dined at Moderno on our Breakaway cruise during its inaugural year. It was ooooookay 🙄 It satisfied our need to eat, but it wasn’t spectacular. But a so-so meal on a cruise ship always beats any so-so meal on land 👍🏻
We're on the Pearl this Friday. It is one of only 14 ships to get a perfect CDC score in 2023 and the only Norwegian ship on the list You did a terrific video on inside rooms on the Pearl. Enjoy the Norwegian Jewel!

My best friend and I went on our first cruise ever on the Jewel! We went on KISS Kruise XI in October 2022 (what a way to start out our cruising! lol). We went from LA, to Cabo, to Ensenada and back to LA. We loved the Jewel. Our cabin steward was great, and the decor in the rooms looked so modern and fresh. Our inside cabin bathroom was almost the same size as yours, our toilet was not separated. Loved the full shower! Our experience was different than a 'normal' cruise, so we only ate in the buffet the entire time, but the food was really good for every meal. The main pool was covered by the deck stage, and the theater was set up for the indoor concerts (don't be surprised if red and white confetti still falls from the rafters!! LOL). I'd love to sail on the Jewel again to experience a relaxing cruise. Have a great time!! This sounds like a very fun trip!

Been here 30 plus years and sometimes forget we occasionally have some robust cruise business out of our small-ish port (most of the time, it’s just the Disney Wonder, which is a disappointing experience to sail on)…
San Diego was the very 1st cruise port I visited after we left the Los Angeles port.

Looks like a nice start to the cruise. The cabin looks great. I love the lights in the closets! @Jason - Top sirloin is a poor man's steak. Pass it by and wait for a filet mignon or a ribeye. The only way to eat flank or top sirloin is if they have been marinated for days! Interesting array of foods. I love going into San Diego. I heard recently that some lines were going to not embark in SD anymore, in favor of San Pedro (Los Angeles). I'd much rather embark in San Diego. You showed us why, the city at the end of the docks!

We recorded a ship tour and will show the kids areas. Splash Academy is right by the buffet and we could hear kids playing all the time. They were having fun.

Sailed on Orient Lines Marco Polo back when NCL owned it. That ship was very old. In fact, it was so old that soot was coming out of the smokestack and landing all over the lounge chairs on the aft pool deck.

MSC ship from Miami to Bahamas just got back! No! Everyone complained. Short staffed long lines waiting for Buffett. Fighting to get a drink at the bars. I should have done a cruise from my short drive to Port of Long Beach on Carnival to Ensenada for a better trip. Don’t do the MSC. They admitted they are short staffed in food and beverage service. Food terrible too.
My favorite class in the NCL Fleet. The Gem being my favorite.

Cool video! I'm booked on the Jewell in 2024 for an Alaska cruise (Actually doing a back to back on the Bliss as well) and it was nice to see the ship a bit. The gem looks really similar to the Pearl that I got off of last month with the double pool set up and the bathroom layout. Now, just counting down the days to cross off Alaska from my bucket list!

I would like to see cruises that went from a California port such as SD to Hawaii ( withna stop n Me ico ) and around Hawaii, ending in Honolulu. Then another cruise to reverse it. I think those would work better than to gave to cruise both ways.

Have never in 64 cruises been on a Norwegian ship but I have done the inside passage of Alaska in 1997 This is my newlywed hubbys first Alaska cruise and we are celebrating his 71st BD onboard. Love you guys videos. They prepared me a good bit when I took my first cruise on Carnival Valor a couple of months ago. But wanted to ask Jason what brand sunglasses were you wearing?
The Jewel looks much better than the NCL Get Away. Just returned from 10-days one week ago. My first cruise. Felt crowded, pool was very small and buffet food was mediocre. Vegan options very limited. Very chaotic getting off the ship last morning when it docked back in Cape Canaveral, FL. Had a nice time, however, would choose a larger ship or different one next time.

the jewel class are my favorite class of ship. i have been all (2of them twice) except the pearl. modernos is by far my favorite class of the premium class restaurants fleet wide.
Just got off the sister ship Pearl, and was very disappointed in the bathroom, looks great in theory but vanity area and toilet too small ( and we aren’t big people). Only place to hang toiletries bag was on door, and that made it difficult to hang towels, ended up having to hang towels on 2 hooks outside bathroom. Area in front of sink was so narrow, with door closed you have to turn sideways to reach under sink, the garbage can was way in the back underneath, and the lower shelf wasn’t accessible easily. Yes, the shower was great! Cabin was pretty but beds were hard, not enough drawers, and one side of bed has to use couch as a nightstand? They now charge a room service fee of $5 for coffee in the morning 🤬 . If that’s the case, there should be coffee maker in the room. Smaller ships are great, but Princess , Celebrity and RCL are much better in this category. Overall I was disappointed in the Jewel class. Great Itinerary though 👍.

They were fun and not too pushy about it. But we always washy washy 👍
Just got off the Pearl. The meat was not very good in any of the restaurants. Teppankaki used to offer Filet Mignon and now they serve sirloin. Even Cagney's was disappointing. I think the quality of the food in general has been downgraded.
We had fillet at Teppanyaki on Jewel and it was yummy. Sorry yours wasn’t good!
What are those skull frame sunglasses you're wearing?
Bought those from the market in San Diego. Hand carved arms and the glasses are from the same company that makes ray bans is what they told me! $45 and they are polarized! Don’t remember the name of the vendor though sorry!

We really didn’t eat that much. We tried a couple of bites of everything and stopped the meat delivery when we were getting full.

I just watched this cruise out of San Diego. Since I live about halfway between Los Angeles and San Diego, I would love to take it next year. I saw that it was at Port in Seattle. Does it end there?
Sooo...you were not really fans of the Brazilian steakhouse?? The Atrium is a "specialty" restaurant, but I can't find menus on it at all!!! Anywhere! Or reviews of it!! If it's better than the Brazilian, we may cancel that reservation and get one at the Atrium (but apparently can't make reservations for it beforehand either!!).Anyone here have any advice?
Love your vlogs. Only been on 1 cruise in 2016 and my wife passed in 2019 and wanted to do it again. Is there any way, as a single traveler, you can avoid paying a supplement?
So sorry for your loss!! NCL has ships with solo cabins but also, if you can book within 90 days of travel, NCL and some others waive the single supplemental on some sailings.

My husband has a goofy question... Do norwegian ships have anything to watch on the TVs in the cabins or is it sparse? We just got off the Celebrity Solstice and there was nothing except the bao cam, news and a couple of movies.
Pretty much the same. Ship info, news, a few movie channels. That's about it.
We are tv people! Some people think we’re crazy because we actually do care what’s on tv. There is no on demand but there were 5 movie channels with good movies. We actually stayed in on one of the sea days and just chilled and watched movies.
@@EECCTravels that's the kicker for us also. Sometimes we just want to stay in and chill. Thank you for that. We're trying to find something besides our go to Holland America... Not that Hal is bad but just something different.

The question is San Diego or Vancouver :) I'll take Vancouver.. more green.. but San Diego is a cool city.. i like it a lot better then L.A.
We love both cities!! We flew straight home from Vancouver so didn’t get to explore but we’ll be back next month.
The bathroom used to be really pretty. Now it's nice but boring.
