It’s not Dunkey’s game. It’s Billy Basso’s game and Dunkey’s company published it. Normally I wouldn’t be a stickler about this kind of stuff, but the dude literally made the entire game himself, including the engine, over the course of 7 years

@@purpleninja102 no tutorial popups, game 100% explains itself without text. Asmons hardest weakness does not exist in this game, so actually his existing braincells (the ones responsible for getting good and getting angry) had more breathing room.

i was questioning the 25$ price point but after learning one guy made the engine/art/music/puzzles all by himself, i think he's earned the right to sell his game for that much.
also, the game might seem short for a normal a playthrough but it goes deep, REAL DEEP. theres so much to be discovered and completionists are gonna have a great time with it.
if you arent into metroidvania/puzzle games then i would wait for a sale but i think if you're a fan of the genres then 25$ is well worth the money.

I'm so glad the tools are widely available for indies to exist. Just seeing the dev's synths in the background in the dunkey release video was very inspiring.
Yeah I thought the same when I watched it. Insane what you can do why a synthesizer and some "basic" input tools. Plus I am impressed he made all those animal sounds himself.
With all the AAA studios firing people, I can't help but hope that the talent that these studios let go of goes off and starts their own projects.
My wife and I are planning on dabbling in developing our own game in the near future.
The guy coded his own proprietary engine, which most AAA studios don't even do anymore. They all just pay to license Unreal Engine so the games look like hundred million dollar Unreal fan mods.
The sound is so good in this game whoever did it deserves a raise

tip for anyone trying the game, you can take the mock disc without taking the real disc first, and swap them out afterwards. no dog chase. well, at least for a while.
more Billy Basso's game, he made the engine, graphics, music, EVERYTHING. Dunkey published it because he as godlike taste and eyes for talent
Maybe not for everyone but for all that it does in its genre 10/10.
Amazing art style (remenecent of the Vectrex console of the 80s) , animations, sound, music and a deep interesting and varied adventure/puzzle/metroidvania gameplay chuck full of secrets.
Made by 1 guy...just wow.
Really great seing Asmon getting into Indie titles :) They deserve the praise.
The really cool thing about this game is that not only was it made by one dude (Art, Music, etc.), but that dude also created his own engine in order to make the game in the first place. I'm super impressed by that.
That used to be the norm. Now everyone just uses Unreal which is why everything feels so samey.
It doesn't really matter how many custom assets you create, there is an "engine feel" that you just can't escape without making your own engine.
@@saikimayu Come to think of it, you're absolutely right. Like, the devs for Monkey Island making the SCUMM engine for their projects. But, for a single indie dev in this day and age it feels even more impressive. That feels like true passion.
@@Ixeas22 Oh it's definitely impressive. It used to be the norm for studios, but for an individual it's kind of nuts. I'm pretty sure the Axiom Verge developer built everything from scratch himself too. There are probably others, but that and Animal Well are the only two I know for sure, especially at this quality.
Even if you can find other people with all the skills, finding anyone in that group with the passion to actually do all this without help is unlikely.

I had this playing for background noise, and because of the way the ghost cat sfx are mixed, I thought I kept hearing a weird sounding car engine revving up, far away from my place.

Game is pretty fun, very little hand holding and so many secrets. Probably not your game if you don't like puzzles or platformers
So basically they took Rain World and made it less of a simulation and more of a video game. Ngl I remember thinking years ago how good of an idea that is.
