Kit Connor when you reach a certain age you start thinking about death and you start seeing people dying around you. It’s normal. Still it’s surely horrible to lose your mum and sister so close together. But for a young girl to lose your mum is unnatural and very tragic.

I've become a fan of her's, unfortunately due to her mother's passing, but I admire how she dealt with losing her mom and grandma at the same time and continuing to keep their legacy alive.

lol my mom died when I was young, when she was young, and she never wore a bra on the weekend. You can’t be weird and only say positive things about your dead parents. 16 years later I still complain about my mom not wearing a bra and flirting with the butcher 😂

Carrie Fisher has some stories to tell. I wish i knew her. I picture her as one of those people you are impatient to meet during your daily life, just to be with them and have some fun. She was larger than life.

Billie (totally) has Carrie's eyes. What if Lourd had starred in the new (Star Wars) Mandalorian series on the Disney (Plus) streaming service ? That would be great (as a tribute / homage to her Mom).

But Carrie Fisher's symbolic status within her own generation was predominantly wasted promise. Most would say she underachieved based on her talents due to excessive partying (herself included). Today she's mostly known for the Princess Leia character, a role she only made peace with late in life.

Her own generation knows the acclaimed When Harry Met Sally; Hannah and Her Sisters; Postcards from the Edge (book and screenplay); Shampoo; Catastrophe; Smallville; Wishful Drinking; Come Back Little Sheba (televised play); Agnes of God(Broadway). Also, White Lightnin' is little known, but quite a part! And that isn't all she did. I left out cameos that may not be thought of as acting, but are comedic, e.g., 30 Rock was perfection. And her appearance for comic and musical numbers on Laverne and Shirley's last season and an episode of Saturday Night Live show her good timing and good voice. There were a handful of years when she switched to writing also. She also gave great awards speeches where she basically lampooned herself (AFI to George Lucas; AFI to Harrison Ford; Academy Awards bit with Martin Short).
@@Ma_Ba Regarding underachievement, again, she said so herself. Yeah she was diagnosed bipolar, but read her books (I have) and she makes no excuses regarding her hard partying. And the jobs it lost her, her rep as unreliable. Hope you do realize that many of those writing credits you are awarding her are in truth writing work done on scripts, scripts that many writers worked on. I liked her alot, agree 100% with you that she was the best, funniest (but warm) speech giver in Hollywood before her death... but to call her iconic has more to do with a role that haunted her, that she made peace with but wasn't particularly proud or ashamed of.
Best thing you can say about her, is that one would imagine that her memoirs, incl. the partially fictionalized Postcards, might be the most quoted source 30-40 years from now by historians looking to describe Hollywood of the '80s and '90s. They're so rich in detail AND moving.
