  • Guess who flew back down to McMinnville in March?
    Join me for the first part of this flight, where I leave Wenatchee Pangborn Memorial Airport (KEAT) and head south over winter terrain. This flight has both nosecam and instrument cam views, as well as cockpit narration and radio chatter. I'll release additional parts of this flight throughout the summer.
    Note: This is the 1080 HD version of this video. A 4K UHD version without the animated subscribe button and Member Wall is available to members at the Sponsor level or higher.

    About Me and the Helicopter
    - I have been flying for about 20 years. My nearly 4,000 hours of flight time is in Robinson R44, Robinson R22, and Bell 206L (Long Ranger) helicopters.
    - The helicopter is a 2005 Robinson R44 Raven II -- the same one that appears at the beginning of the video. You can learn more about them here: robinsonheli.com/r44-specific... I own this helicopter. It is the third helicopter I've owned since 2000.
    - My helicopter has ADS-B Out and is picked up by radar facilities. You can see my track for recent flights on Flightradar24: www.flightradar24.com/data/ai... This is a great site for tracking any almost any flight, including the airlines.
    About the Video
    - The video was recorded with a pair of GoPro Hero 7 cameras (amzn.to/2Lxyzwl) and a GoPro Hero 8 camera (amzn.to/2PBlZ4o). One camera is connected to the helicopter's intercom system with an NFlightCam audio cable (amzn.to/31syLTm). All cameras record audio, but I dialed down the helicopter sound by 10 decibels from normal volume so it wouldn't be annoying.
    - The "cockpit cam" front-facing camera was mounted with my current Instrument Cam set up, which you can learn about in this Behind-the-Scenes video: • Behind the Scenes: Coc... . It's based upon a MyPilotPro Helicopter Mount (mypilotpro.com/product/helico...) modified to get the height I need. The rear facing camera was mounted on the cockpit bubble with a MyPilotPro Spider Swivel GoPro Windshield Mount (www.mypilotpro.com/product/my.... The "nosecam" has a proprietary mount.
    - The video was edited on a iMac using Davinci Resolve 16 software. Learn more about it here: www.blackmagicdesign.com/prod...
    - The intro music is by Bob Levitus, famed "Dr. Mac." You can find him here: www.boblevitus.com/
    I TRY (really!) to drop cockpit POV videos on Sunday mornings and "extras" with more info about owning and operating a helicopter midweek. (Some channel members get early access to some of these videos.) I also host occasional livestreams with Q&A chats. SUBSCRIBE and turn on the notification bell so you don't miss anything new! And tell your friends. I'm trying hard to deliver good videos and grow my subscriber base.
    Some links on my channel are affiliate links, including all links to Amazon (amzn.to/32PLHTD) and MyPilotPro (mypilotpro.com/shop/?wpam_id=13). If you click one of them and buy something, I get a small referral reward. It doesn't cost you anything so I hope you'll shop with one of those links. Thanks.

    Awesome. Recently started getting serious about getting helicopter lessons. About 4 hours in and can acceptably hover. All in a r44 cadet.

    I saw on flightradar24 that your helicopter was flying around Santa Catarina Island on Sunday. Nice flight, love the snow cover terrain too.

      Skyler is flying it in the LA area. He mentioned he wanted to fly out to Catalina. I get it back in about 2 weeks.

    I am fascinated watching you flying helicopters.......just magical. May I ask what your background is or how you got into this job? :-)

      Just something I wanted to learn. I took lessons, got my private certificate, bought an R22, got my commercial certificate, sold the R22 and bought an R44, and made it into a business through a lot of hard work and expenses. That's the short version of the last 25 or so years.

    Good to enjoy some flight footage with you again Maria - interesting to see all the white stuff.
    I wonder if it mightn't be wise to invest in a new battery as the old one could well not accept and keep a decent charge.

    • @FlyingMAir
      @FlyingMAir  3 года назад

      The helicopter will be overhauled after cherry season and will get a new battery with the overhaul. I'd rather not spend the money now. As far as I know, it is still holding a charge between flights. But at the start of this flight, I hadn't flown in more than 6 months.

    Nice to see the helicopter out of mothballs. Have you ever thought when you store the copter of putting it on a trickle charger? Looking forward to more videos.

      Unfortunately, it's a 24v battery. I need a special charger for it.

    I'm glad for the run! Take care, be well! Cheers- @Maria

    HEY, Maria HELLO
    I was wondering if you have ever flown over Mount Saint Helens if so when and what part of the mountain did you fly over since you been flying in the State Washington

    • @FlyingMAir
      @FlyingMAir  3 года назад

      I haven't flown over the top of Mt. St. Helens, but I've flown around it on the northwest to east sides.

    I was unaware that you had to file a flight plan for VFR. I knew it was a requirement for IFR.

    • @FlyingMAir
      @FlyingMAir  3 года назад +2

      I don't have to file a flight plan for a Part 91 VFR flight. But since I was flying over a lot of remote terrain, I thought it was a good idea. If I go down, I want someone to know where to start looking.

    • @timothyhnida8965

      @@FlyingMAir I went back and listened to the video again and you said you are required to file a flight plan for all your Part 135 flights so I am going to have to research the Part 135 and Part 91 and get informed.

    • @FlyingMAir
      @FlyingMAir  3 года назад +1

      Part 135 is on demand charter operations. It has additional rules that pilots must follow.

    Nice video, but the sound was mono rather than stereo which made it a bit difficult to listen to on headphones.

    • @FlyingMAir
      @FlyingMAir  3 года назад +1

      LOL. Don't blame me. Blame the folks that make the audio cable I use. They put all the sound in one channel. If you think it sounds bad in mono, you should hear it in stereo when it's only in one ear. Got knows I got enough complaints about it before I set cockpit audio to mono.
