Seems kind or silly to blame the shortage on silicon. As you said silicon is the second most abundant element on Earth. The reason Silicon is so great in so many of these applications is because it is so abundant, it is very cheap and easy to obtain. Also, a basic fact of physics and elements is, the lower down on the periodic table of elements something is, the more abundant it is in the universe while also being lighter. There are probably other elements higher up the periodic table that share traits with silicon, and thus would make a suitable replacement. The problem is the higher you go up the table, the more rare the element is. This is because stars only naturally produce elements in abundance up to Iron. Iron, due to its difficulty in working in fusion processes, is usually what stalls the engine in stars and kills them. Heavier elements get made through other processes, and thus don't get made in anywhere near the abundance as Iron and lower elements. This means, any alternative to Silicon is going to be more rare by quite a bit, thus more expensive by quite a bit. Also, it will be heavier. Since it will share a similar profile as Silicon, that is subatomic makeup, it will likely be physically bigger too which wouldn't be great for very small circuits. So, it seems silly to think anything else would really be superior to Silicon.
If silicon was really clever it would figure out how to feed and house all the human beings on our planet. Several billion of the people mentioned may own a smartphone but live a subpar existence. Less technical crap, more humanity!
100 watts at 2 volts is 50 amps of current. 50 amps is a *lot* of current. But it comes down to the number of transistors on the chip. A chip consuming 100 watts is going to have billions of transistors. The current being passed by each individual transistor is going to be very low.
It's wrong to point fault on the dependency on Silicone and not point out the actual issue of rare earth metals manufacturing and usage in micro chips. If the technology used pure silicone and was advanced to address the power issues, we wouldn't be in this day and age of chip shortage.
Boron doped Blue Diamond 🔹️ is far more efficient than Silicon and can be cloned in lab controlled environments in small and large scale production volumes.

Carbon is the cleverest element on Earth. It self-assembles into life.
Idk
That is very true, carbon is the element that makes an object in touch with reality and identifies it, everything and everyone is made of carbon
Maybe not entirely by itself (I think electromagnetic fields also play a role)

Silicon might be the clever element of some other world and it might have some life form in other worlds..that explains the ufo's
"Silicon: The Cleverest Element On Earth"
Carbon: Am I a joke to you?
They say gold is one of the most valuable metal on earth but the current civilization runs on silicon.
Fun fact : Other than carbon , silicon based lives are also possible in alien worlds.
yeah because they are on the same group and have similar reactions. I wish to eat silicon chicken. Wait what
It’s not aliens , it’s the devices infront of us .
Fact?
Perhaps on planets where it rains lava and the soil is made of tungsten
What about those life forms that are particularly silly? Like Monte Python.

This video is awesome and helping me to develop my interest in science
Science is the process of discovery and explanation.
Engineering takes those discoveries and explanations and creates things with it.
Silicon is also added to aluminum during mixing process, I know cause I shoveled enough of that rock in my younger days.
Carbon and silicon are insane
They are in the same group and right above/under each other
The music is distracting.
crazy how many people think silicon and silicone are the same things
Until they get a silicon implant instead of a silicone one - painful!

It is the shortage of silicon metal, which does not occur as the element in nature.
The shortage is due to manufacturing capacity, not the raw materials. It takes time and big bucks to build new chip factories.
@@karhukivi Not the reason. The metalloid comes from sand. The shortages are due to manufacturing capacity.

wow I used to learn for school
I don't know how we can say the transistors in processors use low current because a CPU that consumes more that 100 Watts doesn't even reach 2 Volts.
If you make a nanoscale transistors
2 Volts are very high voltage, electrons can jump the insulation on transistor walls...
100 watts at 2 volts is 50 amps of current.
50 amps is a *lot* of current.
