I'm working on the fifth song for my album and I finally wanted to show how I record solos. Let's see what the signal chain is and why I record WITH delay and reverb instead of keeping the takes "dry". Enjoy and leave a comment below!

I'll dial in a tone that I enjoy together with the backing track and then record the full signal chain as well as a dry tone that I split off right after the guitar. If I am happy with the recorded tone - good - if not, I'll fire up Helix native and maybe some other plugins and work on a tone that fits the mix. In some rare instances, I'll actually reamp through a Kemper, Helix, Kingsley preamps or even mic'ed amps. In that case, wet effects are almost always plugins and I mix them in parallel using buses in the DAW. Many times, that will feature the 2290 plugin - now that there finally is a pedal, I enjoy using it while recording.
I prefer doing kind of the “old school” way as well. If you commit to a tone with overdrive, delay, reverb etc. just the way it is, if you’re digging it, record it that way. I feel it helps with the performance. I’m not all that into re-amping, putting effects in mixing and post. To me, that’s like trying to add “feeling” in after the performance.
finally :D - I was waiting for it 😍
I record in a similar way - endless takes and generally drive myself insane😬😂 Thanks for showing the frustration of recording is the same for those at a much better level!
I just mic up the cab and tweak the tone as I practice and usually get it OK now that I have a bit of experience. Both my brain and computer are unable to deal with plug ins and all that sophistry!😂
I commit to the base tone, but I record without delay and reverb and add them through plugins. Delay and reverb is so crucial (to my ears) for how guitars sit in the mix, so I just don't dare burn them into the track.
I also always record a DI for safety, but I don't think I've ever used it, at least not for guitar. For bass, I will sometimes use the DI to add a layer of compressed clean low-end.
Always love to see your process of recording. Sounds really cool 👏
Hey brother, thanks so much! I just wish I had much more time to work on the album. 😅
Love the video, totally felt the same when you record over and over again, but with great results, I really like the album journey
Thanks so much!
Hi Kris, love your channel, especially the recording aspect.
I also record the same as you, mainly with my delay and tremolo and other fx I might need, I also like to hear my guitar the same way I hear it. Good luck with your album... and greetings from Cyprus 🇨🇾
Thanks for sharing and for the kind words! I really appreciate it.
Your journey is very interesting to follow. Thank you for sharing Kris :) I think I'll love the album
I’m so glad to hear that, thank you! 🙏
Julia ... you got me ... just put up a note whenever this album is avail
Oh ... beware: me wont pay for any songs missing a Tele
Haha, don't worry, it's teles everywhere all over the songs. Mixed with other sweet guitars here and there. 😆
Hell of a player and great human being. Rock on Kris!
Aww man, thank you!!
Sounds good Kris, keep it up friend
I really like your style and this attitude to make the commitment immediately... otherwise it might lead to choice paralisys etc... and it's all about the confidence and the vision you have in your head about how you want it to sound exactly... I agree that it might be risky but you know... the greatest songs and tracks were recorded on tape with mistakes and some totally missed sounds and they still became legendary tunes... 🙌
The last thing I want is option paralysis. 😂 Yeah it just feel more real like this so I take the risk. Cheers buddy!
@@KrisBarocsi and this is the way! :) Can't wait to hear your album finally...
What a fantastic video have a wonderful day kris ❤😊
Thank you! Same to you too!
Damn, brother that sounded amazing. Good luck for the album.
Thanks a lot! 🙌
Hi Kris, getting updates on how you create your album is always interesting! Just like this episode! Also, the rhythm part is great and the solo is cool! I still can't wait for the release of your album! Cheers! 🙂
Glad you enjoy it! Actually I enjoy creating the rhythm parts even more than the solos. 😅 I mean, that’s the actual music, the solo is just the seasoning, isn’t it? 😅
@@KrisBarocsi Yes! While we, guitarists, love to play solos and try to improve our soloing skills, the average listener doesn't care about it but about the "backing track"! 😄
I should spend much more time on improving my rhythm guitar playing too! 🙃
Also quasi halbwegs sinnlos. 😅 Also wenn schon, denn schon.
Oh yes! I was hoping for Julia and I know what you mean by saying you can already her her playing over the drums.
Was kinda ready for Frank Itt right before the bass player reveal there, but Julia is rock solid too. Both got bassfaces as well :)
I’m working on a song right now that I’m using all mic’d cabs with delay on and while it’s a little more tedious I just love doing it.
That's it! No risk no fun, haha! Go for it dude!
Sometimes I feel like I can press stop faster that any person alive while tracking lol.
😆
Great solo! what is the DAW controller in your desk? thanks
Thanks! It’s a simple bluetooth numpad with stickers for the commands. 👍
I record old school, choose the right guitar and amp , then just go for it.
Nice work! Which amps/camb did u use for the rhythmic gtrs? Thanks!
Hey, thanks!
Rhythm left: Tele, Xotic Super Clean, Honey Bee Amps Double Trouble, Anasounds Utopia, Imperial MkII head, OX 2x12, UAFX Golden reverb
Rhythm right: Tele, REVV Tilt OD, Anasounds Utopia, Imperial MkII head, OX 4x12, UAFX Golden reverb
Cheers!
Hi Kris, it's slightly off topic, but I want to suggest a little something for your next comment time: would you like to try Jimmy Page Les Paul mod where he removes the screws from the neck pickup and makes paf sound like a p90? I would try this myself, but I only have a strat.
Thanks for the idea, I have it noted. 👍
Anybody know what the DAW controller was? Or was it just a bluetooth 10-key with stickers? Either way, it looks interesting.
Hey, it's a simple bluetooth keypad with stickers for the commands. I love it and use it all the time.
@@KrisBarocsiAwesome. I use a StreamDeck similarly. I just wondered if it was a dedicated thing.
Only with Plug-ins :)
🍍🤗
Lovin' the pineapple, dude! 🙌
so why not record a DI on the side?...just to be sure....
I love your videos, but I can’t help but think that your intro jingle sounds like a US mainstream TV sitcom…. Sounds like we have just come back from a commercial break, or cut between scenes!
I am so sorry.
Yeah well, youtube is kinda like the new tv, isn't it? So in a way it fits the vibe. 😂 You're right though, it does have a sitcom jingle sound to it but don't worry, after a while I'll really get bored of it and make a new one. Cheers
