Fun fact The shoot for this video took way longer than expected, and everybody was getting bored, so Siobhan (the second female performer) went for a wander within the town, found a bar and got absolutely smashed on vodka. When she showed up to do her part she could barely stand up, but they went with it and the result was brilliantly and hilariously over the top.
Shakespears Sister are a duo consisting of American Marcella Detroit and Irish/British Siobhan Fahey. This was huge back in the day spending 8 weeks at number one in the UK in 1992.
No such thing as Irish British, if u come from Britain u are British, doesn’t matter if u have Irish history , that’s said only because the Irish like to discredit Britain at every turn and claim this so called very different ethnicity or summink,
The video is portraying a fight for the soul of the dying guy between Siobhan, the second girl, the devil, and his boyfriend Marcella trying to keep him alive and on the “good” side. Siobhan was previously a member of Bananarama; their commercial success is pretty cheesy Stock, Aitken and Waterman teen pop (one reason she left) but their early collaborations with Fun Boy Three from Coventry, such as It Ain’t What You Do It’s The Way That You Do It are phenomenal. One of my claims to fame is 17 year old me at a FB3 gig in Coventry lighting Siobhan and the other girls cigarettes (and I never did get my lighter back!).
Diehard, " to the death" fan of Shakespears Sister here. Many good songs by them, some mainstream and some obscure that I will list below.. Goodbye Cruel World . Hello turn your radio on. Its a trip. Waiting. Bad Blood. I don't care. Catwoman. Heroine
@@mitchellsouphasith3763 Done by Sophie Muller who also directed many later Eurythmics, Annie Lennox solo and Sophie Ellis-Bextor videos. That woman is a genius.
This song (and video) would play constantly on TV back in the days ! I highly suggest you to react to En Vogue music video of "Free your mind". This also was on heavy rotation on TV (and is still a relevant song today).
As always, a lovely contribution from you! Singer Siobhan Fahey is also a founding member of Bananarama. Since you liked Blue Monday by New Order, I would suggest the title "Venus" by this girl band. Link: ruclips.net/video/d4-1ASpdT1Y/видео.html
You stopped to early and hence missed the "devil's" exit. Be patient 😃 This was Shakespears Sister's only #1 in 1992 and the actual leading lady (Siobhan Fahey, until 1988 a member of the girl Band Bananarama) seemed to be so jealous about her partner Marcella Detroit who took the leading part here that she fired her publicly at an award ceremony in 1993. Only in 2019 they reconciled and reunited for another single ("All The Queen's Horses") and another EP ("Ride Again"), both very worth listening.
Hmmm I guess it was huge in 1992! Never heard. I must have been distracted by Dream Theater 🎭 1992 PULL ME UNDER from the album; Images And Words! Great Reaction though!! Peace 🕊️☮️♾️😎🎸🤟🏼
The band name is probably a reference to a Virginia Woolf essay published in 1929. It tells a fictional story of Judith Shakespeare, who was just as talented as her brother William, but was denied his opportunities. The story ends sadly, but was a pretty seminal work of early feminism.
It's well known that Siobhan Fahey is difficult to work with, as she had a falling out with Bananarama as well. Not that she's a bad person, but I think mental health issues and alcohol problems were mostly to blame.

And she was awesome!
Yes that is true, she was also a member of bananarama
Very few reactors get beyond this hit. They are well worth a deeper dive.
"What do we say to the god of death?"
Love the eye roll from Death at the end as if to say, "Yeah whatever, I take you all in the end anyway."

The Second Lady was death trying to take the man from the world of living.
Not true. It was Sibohn Fahey an singer who used to be part of Bananarama.

Amazing what a morning drinking vodka does! The second girl was drunk by the time it was her time to sing,it added to performance ❤
That second girl is shakespeare sister

I think the band name is from The Smiths single Shakespeare's Sister ,which was about Virginia Woolf as you described

They had a reunion a couple of years ago: ruclips.net/video/riaKUunh5go/видео.html
