- How to cut a large Mylar bag into smaller bags and seal using a clothing iron. You can get 4 bags approximately gallon size out of one 5 gallon size mylar bag which would be about half the cost of buying 4 gallon size pre-made bags. You can also make special sizes for items you want to seal in bags like individual meal serving sized bags, long and skinny for spaghetti, or small for seeds, batteries, fire starting kit, etc. It is super easy and fast to make your own custom sized bags. You can also use a flat iron (the kind used for hair) it works great

I was just about to buy a sealer online that cost a lot of money, thanks for saving me some hard earned cash. Perhaps I will spring for a used iron at the thrift store which is minor cost-wise. Keep up the great work!

My next question would be about how vacuum seal the bags or replace the air with dry nitrogen or something inert so the stored items (particularly light sensitive organic materials like certain foods) would last.
Oxygen Absorbers. There's another video - he shows how to get most air out, then seal, and the oxygen absorber does the rest. Pretty cool. He folds the edges over and squeezes as much air out as he can and uses a straight edge instead of an ironing board. I found absorbers on ebay.

I was like hmm how could i fuse my mylar together without screwing it up, obviously it has foil on it generally like this stuff but obviously for the use i have in mind that stuff is just plasticky. I'll definitely use this advice along with some strips of foil over my seams to properly seal them onto a shade frame, for indoor growing though lol. Definitely useful for other mylar i will use soon lol
I'm basically making a huge round lamp shade for a grow light so my grandmother can have her lemon tree under her grow lights without also going blind laying in her bed a foot from it. But it's a huge spread so i need a big hoop to block the light and this fusing method will allow me to fuse it directly to a wire mesh then seal the remaining edges and make it look pretty

First timer here. If I put moisture absorbers in a mylar bag, are those good substitutes? If not, am I ok to add oxygen absorbers to the top or do I need to fish out the moisture absorbers? I added Dry & Dry 5 Gram Premium Food Grade Silica Gel Packets Desiccant Dehumidifier Silica Gel Packs - Rechargeable Moisture Absorbers.
how long does the food stay fresh in these bags and do they prevent that frezzer burn?
I see the bag has a metal appearance, but pure MYLAR does, even without metal actually in it. Do you know if the bags you have are metalized? If they are metalized, where do you order them from?

Don't put batteries in Mylar it could short circuit
This is true - Wrap BOTH ends in plastic - I use 2 pcs. of clear shipping tape - cut to size. Or wrap a layer of elec. tape around battery and both ends - 1 wrap end to end. God Speed.
