THe wife bought me a Gibson Les Paul in the eighties My mate showed me this exact song, The way the cords move around makes this a very easy to play, and yes I played the F cord the same way On other tunes I played the A cord the same was using two fingers as well,
Hey!!! I’m 84 years old and I love playing this song. Thanks for your great instructions. I bought a new Zager acoustic guitar and it sounds great on it.
Hey guys, is there any room for another member of the World Touring Band? My resume includes being 81 years old, playing guitar 7-8 months, still being a poor guitarist with total inability to play an "F" chord, owning a Yamaha FG730 and a Fender Squire Affinity, both of which I will never be any good at. I'm available to travel, polish your guitars, change strings and laugh like hell at myself.
I don't teach guitar but instead I teach martial arts. I'd have to say from teacher to teacher, you are one heck of a great teacher! You break things down better than I've seen from any guitar teacher! Thanks so much for sharing!
I have to say, you do the BEST teaching on RUclips...I commented a while back that I put the guitar down 30 years ago. I had to raise the 2 guys and really didn't have time anymore, so you can say that I am a few years older than you. I went out about 7 months ago and coughed up 800.00 for a good guitar, you have me going again, the only problem is my motor skills have slowed down tremendously. Thanks for getting me back...great job!!
Im an 18 year old with 0 rythem, but always wanted to learn the guitar. Im sitting with a pen and paper writing down the cords to practice during quarantine
Good luck to both of you! I have been playing guitar for more than a year and it has become my purpose in life. Be sure to take your time and enjoy it. Sincerely, a lefty.
I am 75 and an accomplished pianist but am learning guitar. Strings are harder than keys by the way. But...what a great instructor you are. I know I can do this. If I lived closer to you, I would want direct lessons. Your graphics are so appreciated as well. Thanks loads!
I'm pretty new to guitar, found an easy song and learned it. I thought I'd find a harder one to set my sights on and this seemed like the one. Thank you so much for putting so much detail into this lesson. It means a lot. Thank you
I suggest to you sir, without trying to be snarky, bring up The Animals playing this song on yt. Please pay attention to what they do at the end of each verse. They end the verse then play, without vocals, the chords of the verse. After this instrumental part is completed they then do the next verse with vocals, followed by another verse of no vocals. So vocal, no vocal, vocal, no vocal, etc til the end of the song. The Animals doing House of the Rising Sun from some show in the 60s. On yt. RUclips.
i'm just under 3 months playing on guitar, i just learn to play this whole thing in half an hour, thanks for being so definitive & detailed, i kept saying this guys awesome, just cause you made so easy for me to figure it out! Thanks dude!
i'm still listening this song since my high school days, learning guitar together with my friends and classmates, but then, almost forgotten the chords i've learnt, but song still remain in my mind, thanks for your kindness and the nice & excellent demo, from Philippines.
I am a Japaneae.asometimes I find that Male voice is hard to hear what they are saying. Your English is so clear and not too firsr for people who grow up with different language. the tone of your voice is perfect. The way you teach is treasure!! Thank you for the tutorial videos
I love how in-depth this tutorial is. I have watched others on RUclips for this song but they just seemed to gloss over important details (like don't pick the last E when raking, or pick three down then three up ect.). Maybe it is just because they assumed that we already know them? Anyway, it is absolutely helpful when every little detail is covered and variations of the playing style are added. You need to assume everyone is an absolute beginner (because I am) and not assume people already know things. If they do, great, it just means that they can skip that part. Or maybe they will see it from a new perspective. Thank you so much for the details!!!
Oh, and love the on-screen tabs per verse. I started playing guitar on Rocksmith (it is SO awesome), but I thought this song was way to hard to play. With your help is seems possible now (the game does not have the same in-depth detail as your tutorial). Thanks!
As a more senior beginner, thank you very much for explaining exactly the issues i had with this song. Even though it were a few small things and tips i needed, you nailed it. Well done!
Such a great tutorial. I don’t know where you learned how to tech but you learned it well. First a short and simple explanation how it’s play than the chord than the order of those after all that you showed the different play styles.
I am 56, and playing guitar has always been " something I had to do one day". I live in the NW of Argentina and we use different chord nominations. I coukd learn both, I coukd also become used to the chords quicky. I mainly play folk music from Argentina but would also love to play the greatest international hits. I just have started few months ago. I am happy with the results...
I'm back to trying to play guitar again after giving up, frustrated, decades ago. Amazingly, now it seems so much easier - and way more fun- thanks to lessons like this one of yours. Lovely sound. Thanks a ton.
Absolutely wonderful lesson. I have been trying this song on and off for oh, I don't know 25 years, lol and it was never quite right until I saw this video. Many thanks!
I'm 13, and I'm using this as one's of my first term assessments in college. I think it's great. This guy is one of the best guitar teachers on RUclips. 😊❤🎉
CH.A.O.S TV Hi Cherise! What a small world! No, this comment was written by me. I have been playing the guitar, but Tierza likes to play the ukulele. She posted a few videos. Her channel name is: JadeT if you want to check it out 😉
CH.A.O.S TV You’re so welcome! She said the same thing about you when she watched your videos, because you are so talented, too!!! Tell your family hello for us 👋🏼:)
Thank You!!! Thank You!!! With Your explanation it is so easier. I enjoyed Your lesson and I started believing " I can do it!". My grand daughter promised me to buy me a leather jacket with chains when I learn playing guitar. Now I know I will have it... the jacket of course. Because I already have my lovely guitar. Thank You again.
I’ve been trying to learn guitar for so long and now that I live on my own with no one I finally found the time and I never though learning music was so easy thank you!
Howdy. I've loved this piece since it was new and I was a wee bairn in short trousers. I always thought it was finger picking; this is amazing. Am 68 and recently started taking lessons again, but seriously this time, retired and kids are gone so now I can concentrate. Yamaha acoustic and Gretch electric. I'm gonna kill it with your assist. Rock On.
Hi!! I just picked up my guitar again after 30+ years of not playing!! 68 here, too, and having issues with my dexterity! And my wrist!! Love David's style of teaching, but not sure if he's putting any more videos out!! I'll keep at it even tho I sound pretty bad 🤣
a couple weeks ago my dad came up to me and said "this is your first guitar lesson" and tried to teach me a simple chord. I've been kinda messing around with his guitar since then but the other day I just decided to try this song out, give myself a real goal. this video is definitely gonna help
Thanks Dave, i've picked the strings of the guitar a year ago now and didn't like any youtube video until i find your channel, really explicit and helpful tuto that help me a lot to keep learning. Thanks. If I may suggest a cool tune stuck in my mind for a while, The cave - Mumford and son.
Very helpful as a beginner. I was getting so frustrated.. Not ready to throw in the towel...but definitely shelved playing for the past 2 weeks...thanks for the motivation!!
David I have learned a lot from your videos. You're a great teacher. Keep up the good work and I thank you with tips in your jar as many people should. Two thumbs up !!!
Hey, thanks so much for making a song I feared easy to understand. Most online instructors rush it leaving the student feeling overwhelmed and wanting to break their guitar!
THANKS, MAN I LEARNED THIS SONG IN 1965 AND PLAYED IT A LOT ,BUT I HAD FORGOTTEN THE CHORD PATTERN . SINCE I CUT OFF MY FINGERS ON MY RIGHT HAND I HAVEN'T PLAYED MUCH. I'M TRYING TO GET IT BACK YOU GAVE ME JUST WHAT I NEEDED.
Thanks for the tutorial you are one of the best ; you have a knack to motivate the beginners by making it sound plain & simple by instilling confidence. Great demonstration & instructions as well. Hope to see more of your superb presentations.
I really like your style of teaching the music on line. It took me quite a while to understand the way you use the different styles of picking. Keep up the good work. I am a senior person and I thank you.
Thanks for the tutorial. I'm a newbie. Been learning now for a few weeks. I've heard some say this song is a little hard for beginners but you make it look doable once I master the F chord 😄
It’s bad, but really it’s not that bad. You can get the basic chords down after a while. Just keep practicing over and over again while watching TV. Playing the guitar chords is a lot of muscle memory. Slowly it will come to you. Don’t force it. Just do a little bit every day. Make up a few little songs for yourself. And then play around with strength patterns at the same time
I find it easier to use the first knuckle on my index finger to cover the bottom B and E strings, rather than try using the third fleshy pad like he says. Basically a half bar chord.
I have tried a couple of times in my life to take guitar lessons and have not stuck with it or made time but it is still on my bucket list. In my experience I think the F chord should F off.
Thanks! I find it enjoyable to show a few different ways to tackle the strumming / fingerpicking / etc, knowing that everyone’s preference & abilities are going to be different.
played this many years ago while having my own tock band. Your teaching was spot on. I do it with the rake style of the Animals. good to know others will be taught well. Hats off to you. Rock on . we need some CCR too.
hi! i just found your channel, and this is easily the best tutorial i have come across on youtube. very very easy to understand and learn for a beginner! thank you so much 😊
I love how you teach everything with details, explantions, chords etc. My favorite! Can you do a current version of redemption song.k Love your lessons!
Thanks David - I appreciate your great tutorial. Even us older guys can follow the content. I'll be back to review and practise. I've committed to at least 5 minutes a day, which turns into 30+.
Did learn once to play this song in some sort of shape. But had forgotten. Looking at your lesson think you have shown me a better way. Brilliant cheers.
I only recently started learning, this is one of the channels I always go to for tips and inspiration. I like this lesson in particular. From easy to advanced, there's always something to pick up and improve on. For example, as I still struggle with chord progression, I found playing a Dm instead of the D makes it easier to get to the F, and also from C to Dm is a bit easier for me. And it sounds just as good.
Thank you for this. This extremely helpful to on learning this song, especially the strumming and arpeggios. I was wondering if you could give lessons on some Emerson Lake and Palmer songs? In particular Greg Lakes songs, Lucky Man, C’est Vie, Still...You Turn Me On and Watching Over You. It would be so appreciated if you could give lessons on these song. I really like your teaching style.
All these songs by Emerson Lake and Palmer that I mentioned are here on RUclips. The best version of Still... You Turn Me On and Lucky Man was at the California Jam 1974. And C’est Vie and Watching Over You were from their Work Tour In 1977 if that helps. I really appreciate your looking into these songs. All are beautiful and Greg Lake was an exceptional musician and singer. Watching these videos of him is what inspired me to take up acoustic guitar.
«There is a house in New Orlenes» Am C D F «They call the rising sun» Am C E E «Its been the ruin of many a poor boy» Am C D F «And God, I know Im one» Am E Am E
Your lesson on this song is the best I've found. You are equally skilled as teacher and players, whereas many who put up RUclipss are strong in just one of these two...or not so much either. I'm not dissing anyone, but it's hard not to compare, where you shine. Hope you do much more...and make a living doing it, if you so desire. Thank you!
Hi 🎶im here in Japan and im a begginer 🎶thank you your so genious by using guitar👏please next time show us how to play "its ok if i call your mine🙏please please🙏i really love that song❤️
Maybe because it's not quite the way the Animals play it. The original guitar plays 2 extra notes before strumming each chord. I still gave it a thumbs up tho.
God I finally find the best guy ever, you are the only one who's doing "offline tools" for free !!! Dude the day I have money I'll pay you a pack of beer don't worry !! Thanks dude !
You’re welcome! Nope, I don’t use electric strings. I typically buy the Elixir brand for whatever reason. Any strings you recommend? It’s definitely not something I’m an expert on! But curious to learn.
magnus skaug actually acoustic guitars are supposed to have steel strings for strumming and sometimes fingerpicking but its easier to fingerpick on a classical guitar since they have nylon strings that are not hard on your fingers when pressing down on the chords
I've started to learn this song because I watched 4 tutorials about it and I think that there are so many different useful guitar techniques that can be learned just by learning these few chords. I'm trying to practice the picking by a pick and by hand, alternate picking, strumming and variations of chords, and so on. I find it quite hard and sometimes I'm frustrated because I should've learned this song many hours ago but I'm still Fing up the chords sometimes... But when I try it the next day I always see a little progress in my play. It might be just me but I find it really hard to get over my own frustrations.
It's been months already but... Yeah, it's exactly like that. The next day some things simply click! Don't rush yourself. Things that are outside our comfort zone in music technique will never be mastered in a day, no matter how many our you practice. You'll notice that a night's sleep will 'magically' improve what you couldn't the whole day before. I always loved that about music study. But if you find yourself too anxious to get right something you think you should, try this: Slow down the tempo and mind that your thoughts are not wandering. Something new takes a lot of focus since it's not yet comitted to muscular memory. But remember that maintaining that kind of focus for too long can be a little exhausting at first. If you start to struggle too much to maintain that focus, it's time to take a brak or call it a day... 😄
Your mind works on it subconsciously, especially when you sleep, same with math or anything. Doing enough math or guitar you realise it isn't a perfectly linear process and it literally doesn't happen overnight, if you consider learning a song over a week or two, rather than assuming you can go from zero to hero in a night then the stress is removed because you've removed the expectation to get it perfect in a day. Your budget is now 2 weeks, the fuckups ARE the signal they are not unwanted noise. think of a fuckup of a part like fibres being tightened when you correct it. If you played it perfectly once the first time your brain wouldn't ingrain it so much. Obviously when you have done this many times with many songs of similar complexity / style THEN you might be able to assume 'oh I can get this in a day'. But let your brain just chew on things for a while and remove the unnecessary time pressure, as some guy said people overestimate what they can do in a year but wildly underestimate what they can do in 10.

Hey!!! I’m 84 years old and I love playing this song. Thanks for your great instructions. I bought a new Zager acoustic guitar and it sounds great on it.
I'm 66, on the 19th, and just began! When did you start?
I'm 60 and started 3 weeks ago, with a Yamaha FG800....lets make a band ,tour the world and serenate the Lady's ...." The Never Old's"
So cool! I’m 71, just purchased a Zager 900. Love the song and my Zager. If you’re thinking about buying a Zager, you won’t be disappointed.
I got a Yamaha 280 it's amazing and this song is fantastic too!
Hey guys, is there any room for another member of the World Touring Band? My lovely Dad, do pick up the music. It will make your life colorful. Believe me.

Strings hurt alot more then keys fs
@@johntaylorcurran5748 and if its been a long time since playing guitar, your fingers will last about 5 minutes! If that! lol🙂

Come on you need a bit of practice and you can do it
@@danibiyarslanov I’m 78 and learned how. Come on!
Haha I feel ya, what I started doing is make a C shape and move your middle/ring fingers down a string. Doing it as a bar chord always sucked for me.
The dreaded F cord.
why the f chord is easy

Great that you also explained the Strumming Pattern at 5:37, so I can play it Dylan Style.
Most tutorials on RUclips miss that.
Thanks! I find it enjoyable to show a few different ways to tackle the strumming / fingerpicking / etc, knowing that everyone’s preference & abilities are going to be different.
I think this is a great approach, as the average RUclipsr only thinks of and shows HIS approach. Thanks a lot.

Brilliant demonstration. Very easy to follow.
The most helpful lesson yet, you showed me all I needed to know about playing this song. Nothing was left out, thanks.
I've never comment on you tube post I'm shy but thank you so much I got this song now again ty
I really like how I'm not frightened or otherwise distracted by the presence of a human head. Thanks Icabod.
Love this song and you made it easy to follow on my guitar.
Thanks Becky! I will check out those songs - not sure I know any by name but that band name is definitely one I’ve heard many times. All the best 👍
New subscriber!
Excellent, thanks. Playing 5 months. Been encouraging, others and thumbs up to everyone. Everyone so helpful

Very good teaching for everyone who is studying guitar chords.
First video I watched...I guess I will learn to play guitar with you. THANKS SO MUCH 😋
Did you learned anything from the video???
perfect tension build up and simple release progression. Genius.
Thanks David! Great lesson. How about tips for singing and playing at the same time?
Just wanted to say I LOVVE the sound of your guitar..It has such a beautiful crispness to it
_I really appreciated in the way easy your explain it._
Thank you!
The tutorial is so clear and great! 👍
Thanks! I had a blast learning this song and am glad this lesson is helpful 👍
Was good and clear explanation you made for learner and intermediate grade. Love that.
This is awesome! You explain it so well...
I appreciate your tutorial immensely. THANKS equally to You Tube and You.
Thanks David! Once again an amazing lesson !

Hi 🎶im here in Japan and im a begginer 🎶thank you your so genious by using guitar👏please next time show us how to play "its ok if i call your mine🙏please please🙏i really love that song❤️
one of most straight forward videos of this song i've seen many thanks
Don't know why people would give this a thumbs down smh, great lesson, keep up the great work. I have subscribed, thank you
Maybe because it's not quite the way the Animals play it. The original guitar plays 2 extra notes before strumming each chord. I still gave it a thumbs up tho.
I am in love with this lesson..
Great Tutorial
God I finally find the best guy ever, you are the only one who's doing "offline tools" for free !!! Dude the day I have money I'll pay you a pack of beer don't worry !! Thanks dude !
Thank you very much for your teaching.
BTW, do you use electric guitar strings on your acoustic guitar?
You’re welcome! Nope, I don’t use electric strings. I typically buy the Elixir brand for whatever reason. Any strings you recommend? It’s definitely not something I’m an expert on! But curious to learn.
Typically acoustic guitars have nylon strings (meant for finger style) but some guitars have steel strings and those are more used for strumming style
magnus skaug actually acoustic guitars are supposed to have steel strings for strumming and sometimes fingerpicking but its easier to fingerpick on a classical guitar since they have nylon strings that are not hard on your fingers when pressing down on the chords
Just starting guitar, thank you, this is gonna be fun, I adore how you approach it as you've explained things well.
Thank you
Maybe you can do
Hotel california
Dude thank you sooo much this was very helpful and really helped me to understand the correct ways to play this song.
Thank you sir
This is honestly the most helpful tutorial I’ve watched. Thank you
I love this songs, TY !
Starter playing guitar 3 months ago now i can play this with ease❤
I remember back in the day... Everyone with a guitar considered this song along with "Smoke On The Water" mandatory.
I used to play this song , but something was always missing , so THANK YOU !
By the way I'm 62 and just have my guitar from my husband for christmas.
