  • This is why Japan's Main Battle Tank is so DEADLY (Type 10 MBT)
The Type 10 main battle tank is Japan's deadliest tank. It has one of the most advanced fire control systems on the planet that is autonomous and also boasts one of the most advanced battlefield management systems in the world..
The Type 10 contains a vast number of sensors and systems that increase its lethality. It can search for targets on its own, and if numerous targets are identified, the system will automatically color code them by threat level. The fire control system will then automatically aim at the tank's weak spots, leaving it to the gunner to pull the trigger. It will then attempt to confirm whether the tank has been destroyed or not.
If it cannot confirm the kill, it will suggest firing another round. Platoons of Type 10's can share identified targets between themselves in real time, with the network automatically allocating each tank a target to prevent double shots to save ammo and eliminate friendly fire.
In addition to this, crews are given real-time data about other Type 10's in their platoon, including their speed, location, fuel, and damage status. Platoon commanders can even override the fire control systems of other Type 10’s if necessary.
The main gun is a 120 millimeter smooth bore cannon specially manufactured for the Type 10 by Japan Steel Works, with an optional 50 and 55 caliber lengths. This weapon is supplied with the Type 10 APFSDS round known as the Type III, which is a high velocity round that only the Type 10 can use. Unlike other western tanks, the Type 10 utilizes an autoloader for the main gun, which allows for a rapid fire of one shot every 3.5 seconds.
The Type 10’s distinguishing feature is its adjustable hydropneumatic suspension. This active suspension allows the type 10 to lower the front of the tank to increase gun depression, which is vital for hull-down combat or to lower the tank's silhouette.
Even though the Type 10 is lighter than the earlier Type 90 model, it is more heavily armored, with over 600 kilograms (1,300 pounds) of extra armor in the turret and an additional 1000 kilograms (2,200 pounds) of plating in the hull. This armor is of a modular design, consisting of ceramic composite armour of a classified type, reported to be immune to 120 millimeter APFSDS munitions on the frontal arc.
The vehicle has a 22.6-liter V8 diesel engine that has an output of 1,200 horsepower at 2300 rpm. This gives the Type 10 exceptional mobility, and coupled with a continuously variable transmission, it allows the vehicle to drive forward and in reverse up to 70 kilometers per hour, which is 43 miles per hour. The Type 10 is 9.5 meters in length, has a width of 3.3 meters, and a height of 2.4 meters. The basic vehicle is 44 tons unloaded and has a standard combat load-out of 48 tons.
