He was definitely struggling, the crowd wasn't with him and he was trying to get them back. You can tell he isn't on his regular pace. Usually the crowd goes a lot more wild for Sam

The thing is it is a great set. It was a shitty crowd. Instead of wilting, he went off script and started using the crowd for his material. Just like he used the bus stop as a bit multiple times, because there are a lot of drug addicts in the streets of Spokane.

He identified that 50% of the room was loving his material. So, if 50% don’t like dead baby jokes the crowd is garbage? Would he have felt that way 10 years ago in his career?

So there is no comparison for then and now. He is doing a 3 set day because his tickets were selling out well before the day this was filmed. If you are buying tickets in advance, then you should probably like who you are going to see and know what jokes are coming.

I've always wanted a comedian to post his absolute worst sets. Or show every iteration of a joke that sucks at first, then gets better over time, then eventually when it's in a special you can see how much work and pain it takes
Geoffrey Asmus is a really good example of a comic posting their sets over time so you can see how jokes evolve - really interesting insight into the process. He's also really fucking funny which is a bonus! Worth checking out :D

I literally chose to bring my 20 year old GF to an off-broadway play instead of seeing Tommy Davidson (and others) at Caroline's or rolling the dice on which random NYC comedy club would have someone decent roll in lol
Dude, apart from extremely well packaged joke-writing, Sam Morrill has mastered his intonation of making his voice dip down really low to indicate laughter. Sometimes an audience really needs hard consonants, very specific pauses, etc. to make jokes work. You can have the best joke in the world, but times wrong it can literally be a dead bomb.

Part of me thinks most comics are secretly hoping to find themselves in a Bill Burr Yells At All Of The Greater Philadelphia Area At 2pm On A Tuesday Outdoor Show type situation. Sam made it entertaining for me lol

Professionally Sam is killing it, but his stubborn support of the Dolan Knicks reminds me of a very very rich guy I ran into who is killing it and when people comment how fortunate he is, his response was I could say I am having it all, but I have been a Jets fan for 25 years.
