  • Around the clock, scientists are at sea on the RV Thompson. Their mission: to understand the Axial Seamount, one of the world's most active undersea volcanoes that lies almost 300 miles off the coast of Oregon. In the summer of 2022, OPB's "Oregon Field Guide" crew went aboard to learn more about the research efforts.
