I hated the Force Awakens, so much that I wasn't going to see the Last Jedi. However, when trailers started coming out, and people started _freaking out_ over Luke saying, "It's time for the Jedi to _end."_ - I still held-out hope. Because I knew that Luke's purpose wasn't to revive the Old Order, but to _improve it._ The Dogmatic way of the Jedi that had failed before was flawed and Luke was meant to correct it. The old ways had to go so that _something new_ could be made in their place. So I held-out that maybe Disney knew what they were doing and the Last Jedi was going to have Luke be who he was supposed to be... Instead, Luke's entire legacy gets handed over to someone else; Disney basically gave the message that this guy was literally _pointless_ and merely a roadblock preventing _real progress_ from occurring.
I agree with you on Disney's take on the demise of Luke. Hated it. This take on Luke was perfect and makes sense. I though a Force ghost on Obi-Wan and Yoda would give them the edge in seeing Anikin - it instead had zero effect. They were as blind if not more so, as when they were alive. Luke was right to take their training and dismiss their advice.
Even though obi- one and today meant well they where still making the same mistakes with the way they tried to use Luke. Unlike them Luke embarrassed his compassion and love rather than listen to a dead orders ways.
1. The Jedi teachings weren't wrong. People misunderstand what attachment means. The Jedi forbade emotional connections where you try to possess people. Where you are afraid to lose them. Fear of loss is the path to the dark side. Anakin was afraid Padme would leave him for Rush Clovis and he became angry and jealous, filled with hate. When she is going to leave him on Mustafar, he lashes out. And he turns because he is afraid of being alone when she dies. Obi-Wan told him that having feelings for others is normal, but those negative feelings were wrong. 2. Lucas admitted that the Jedi did manipulate Luke, but only to force him to confront Vader so that he can try to save him. They cannot tell Luke to kill Vader, but they want him to understand that if he cannot be saved, then he has to die. They never tell Luke to kill Vader, only confront. He assumed that meant killing. He refuses to confront Vader because he is attached to him. He has to let go of him and his loved ones in order to save them.
I think Luke's canon portrayal makes more sense in a post-prequel world and with how the Jedi and Sith were portrayed in those movies.. It's more organic than being the can-do-no-wrong/never give up hope type of character. Just from a story perspective you have to give the character demons that he needs to overcome. The same people that say that "Luke would never contemplate killing his nephew out of fear" act like he didn't attack his own father for the same reasons in ROTJ until he came to his senses and rejected the darkside. And even then people also don't realize that he also wanted to kill his nephew in legends after said nephew murdered his wife. The one thing we don't get to see in that TLJ flashback is how things would have played out if Ben didn't wake up just at that exact moment Luke was standing over him. We don't see how Luke would have followed up and handled that moment with Ben. Once Ben woke up and saw him, that was it. It unfortunately confirmed Ben's own worse fears. Luke let history repeat itself and it broke him. His fears became a self-fulfilling prophecy. Everything he worked so hard to rebuild was taken away in an instant. Going through that would break any human being. Even Luke Skywalker. And it made people mad. lol.
So is this revelation canon or not. Bc if it isnt that explains why luke fell off the deepend and nearly killed kylo. If it is then that just makes luke even worse since he already learned those lessons and for the jedi to learn and stufy the darkside. Like why wouldnt luke just talk to kylo about his bloodline and how to not fall to the temptations of the darkside.
I enjoyed Luke’s depiction in TLJ. Way more relatable and not OP. Just wish we saw more post ROTJ adventures and how strong he TRULY is with feats. To each their own
@@RetneysHolocron you definitely complained about it, my comment aint to be taken offensive though i love the channel and been here a long time its just how i talk
The vast number of stories Disney lost out on by doing Luke dirty like they did is innumerable.
They could fix it but pride is a b!tch
They grew up in the flawed ways of the jedi order and stood by it until death and in that order they manipulate children so obviously
Well they did manipulate him.. from a certain point of view.. of course
@@carolinereadowl6271 hahaha right!!
Actually In Canon, Luke Forbade Attachments Just Like The Old Jedi But In Legends, Luke Allowed Marriage And Love
I know 👍

They said go face your destiny not kill your destiny and turning to the dark side 🤷♂️🥂💯
Some times I feel like Jedi are not different than sith I mean really they are trying to make a son kill his own father😢
Yeah, not like the kids dad was going around killing whole planets.
The Sith splintered off from the Jedi after all.
They're worse, because they have a holier-than-thou attitude.
@@normanosborn1277 At least the Sith admit that they are holier than thou jackasses.

Vader was killed the only way possible.
