  • Joe Jordan on May 18, 1958 set world altitude record of 103,395, which pilot Robert White broke when he took the X-15 to an altitude of 314,688 feet, record still holds although he did do it in a rocket powered plane as opposed to a jet.

Anyone else noticed that Captain Jordan was pushing a wheelbarrow all the time ? That was what he used to carry his depleted uranium balls .

Even in 2024, still one hell of a plane. Imagine this with new radar, avionics and newer engines. Even the F-15 would be on guard.

A modernized F-104 would only be a threat to early 4th gen fighters, new equipment could not make up for the limitations of the Starfighter's outdated airframe (even though it'd be very cool)

should i believe that this aircraft reached 90,000 meters in altitude just because it has an image and a guy saying what should be said?

He never said it "reached 90,000 meters in altitude".

If I recall correctly, the the highest an F104 ever got was 108,000 feet, during the work up for an Airforce astronaut training program (it was to be a reentry trainer/simulator for the canceled X20 spaceplane program)
The F104 used there was modified with a 6,000 pound thrust auxiliary rocket motor in the tail, wing tip extensions, and RCS thrusters to allow it to make attitude changes in the thin atmosphere avove 100k as it went zero G at the top of a parabolic trajectory.
