The Convertible for Nobody - Nissan Micra C+C Review

  • The Nissan Micra C+C is a strange one, which makes it the perfect car to begin this channel with. Precious few purchased this vehicle on launch, fewer people even care to remember it however under the bubbly surface of this controversial convertible lies what I think is a pretty competent car.

    We have had our pink one now for over twelve years and it’s been phenominal. Sure no screens no Apple play no gadgets or phone fiddling. It’s coming up 100000 now and has apart from servicing never missed a beat. There is some wear and tear but at 17 years old it isn’t a surprise. Great to drive and you can bimble the country lanes all day without shifting all the gears as 1600 is a big engine for a car this size. Urban the missus gets 44 mpg and I can get 61 mpg driving carefully. On the motorway I went to Devon and back around 500 miles and it was happy to sit for hours at 70. Best car we have ever had by someway.

    Previously we had a '99 MX-5 and since a month an '09 Micra c+c.
    It is a fantastic car with a lot of luxury on board.
    It is also very economical on petrol and not really heavy for a convertible, so also less motor vehicle tax.
    We are going to enjoy this for a long time to come.

    Absolutely amazing video!
    I never understood the hate for that car. My mom had the regular micra k12 (non convertible) and it made it to 200.000km before she sold it (she got a good offer for a suzuki ignis, otherwise she would have probably kept it). In all those years only one thing broke on the car: The battery lol.
    The k12 kinda has a special place in my heart because it was my moms daily driver when I was a child and if I imagine basically the same car that's also convertible, I don't see whats not to love about it. Absolutely cute and almost indestructible car.

    I bought my 2005 (imported) micra C+C last year to fix it up - its been super spenny at the garage as its an import and parts are a nightmare.
    I have noticed a rise in interest in these cars - a lot more on the road that i had noticed a few years prior.
    However, my roof still works, its a cheap run, tax is super high (£30 a month) from being a 1.6.
    As per your comment on the huge scratches & smashed window?
    Yup. HUGEEEE scratch on passengers side & the window wont go up or down but the window is in tact, just wedged 😂😂

    First vid of urs I’ve watched and I’m def liking mostly everything here so far. However… 😋 in editing, it might be good if you lower your bass levels somewhat. I can hear a heavy (booming) bass while yo are driving in the Micra. And your p’s and b’s are sometimes popping pretty heavy. The background booming is the main thing, it’s quite distracting. Just needs a bit of lowering, not too much but it would do wonders!

    • @EndeavorsDnB
      @EndeavorsDnB 6 месяцев назад +1

      I can also hear some clipping from the wind when ur on the side of the road raising the roof up. It’s the bass and maybe volume levels, lowering both slightly should fix it.

    My partner has a 2003 micra 1.2 from new. It's been a very reliable car and no rust issues. Only done 58k but it's done some long holiday runs in between the daily runarounds. Looks like Derbyshire?

    • @CaiKeys
      @CaiKeys  6 месяцев назад

      They're brilliant cars, which I find a tad maligned in comparison to the earlier ones. Yeah there's Renault parts here and there, but aside from the common central locking problems, those parts are just as reliable as the rest of the thing. All chain driven engines too, as far as I'm aware.
      I've not personally had any experience with the 1.2, but the K12 is an impressively designed car, I'm glad it's proving to be reliable for your partner. Interesting on the no rust, because that's a weak point of Japanese cars in general. The micra C+C in the review isn't perfect by any means, but is aging quite well underneath. It's Lancashire, I'm based in.

    Hello, I love the video, I would like to know if the car goes up a slope(you are standing underneath) without having to put the handbrake on .Best regards 😊

    • @CaiKeys
      @CaiKeys  Месяц назад

      @@hayacii thanks, glad you enjoyed, what do you mean by your comment? Do you mean 'will the vehicle hold itself on hills without the handbrake, using just the clutch?' (when hill starting) or am I misunderstanding?
      If you do mean that, you do have to control it on hills with some accelerator usage (with it being a low torque petrol engine), but if this is something you're worried about, you can get the automatic or the diesel which shouldn't have this issue.
      The car is very revvy though so it is surprisingly easy on hill starts
      In a manual, I wouldn't recommend holding the car on a hill without the handbrake for long as it can burn out the clutch.

    Hi, great vid. Also, do you know how this car fairs on the motorway?

    • @CaiKeys
      @CaiKeys  6 месяцев назад +1

      It handles the motorway pretty well for its size - we've taken this thing all over, and done some fairly long motorway journeys in it. You'll get a fairly consistent ~40MPG on the motorway and it feels stable for its size. In very heavy winds you'll get shaken around a bit due to the high roofline, and the gearing is fairly short which means it's not the quietest motorway cruiser, but it's really decent for the category of vehicle it is.
      Thanks for watching!

      @@CaiKeys definitely. Same conflicting decisions my dad made when he got our E51 Rider Autech 10 years ago; he was almost about to make a decision with the E52 and a Vellfire. Glad he went with the E51; so much comfort and luxury and still gets so many looks and checked out every time😍
      Especially with the Rider, you have all the extras that you don't have on the standard models and I believe Autech tuning up the vehicle to 280bhp rather than standard 249bhp. It definitely displays it in its performance 😁

    • @CaiKeys
      @CaiKeys  23 дня назад +1

      @@MAH-89 The E51 over the E52 is no contest, whilst they're still nice cars, they're less practical, interior styling isn't to my liking, and they have the troublesome CVT, Velfires being FWD was also another big reason why I couldn't go for one. You really feel the weight of the thing when the power's coming through the front wheels.
      Mine's an XL spec, whilst Japanese spec (especially on elgrands) appears to be all over the place, the XL has got pretty much all the kit aside from 4X4, Cruise, and a few other bits and pieces. Having said that, an extra 40BHP would be nice, not that the standard 240 ever feels slow, it's more than adequate.
      Apparently the 240 can be mapped to 280 with a Ryder ECU but the parts are rare and it's a hassle to do. I believe someone on the Facebook group has managed to whack a turbo onto his.

      @@CaiKeys you've hit the nail on the head👌🏽 they're built like sleeper cars and leave those pesky boy racers with their jaws dropped when they get left for dust when they try to race you😂😂
      280bhp feels very nice from the throttle response especially when on power mode plus handling feels just like a car despite it hauling over 2 tonnes, and yes, there was a person who fitted a turbo in his with a whole induction kit (nice to know you are also part of the Facebook group😁). If I recall correctly, I think he said he must've been running about 350bhp or more!👀😂

      Quality seems very inconsistent from what people have been telling me, looks like the one in the video is one of the well-built ones, Nissan's perceived quality really took a hit under their acquisition by Renault - they do seem to suffer from door locking issues across the board which is frustrating, though the rattling is unacceptable on a car you've had from new.
