A great video, but I was a bit perplexed about the claim that animation is cheaper than video. As an animator I can assure you that it is not :D If your animation costs less than a simple live action video, you are not getting a good animation product and should choose another animator to give you quality results.
Hi Jones, good point. Personally when I was writing this I was coming from the perspective of having seen a lot of unnecessary spending in the live action film industry while still getting somewhat poor results. I would be very interested to see an apples to apples comparison in today's market. I guess things like the size and scope of an ad and the genre would play into it as well, but you make a great point and I think it's an important thing for people to know going forward. We will pin your comment here so people can have that extra context from an animator :D
@@MotionArrayTutorials Actually now that I think about it from that angle, I totally get your point of view also. I think it might be a "moving target" in both fields to select the best option from all the people and creatives that offer their services. I think apples to apples (meaning you are going to get a demanding / superb end product) in most cases you will end up paying more per second for animation simply because of how labor intensive it is, depending on the technique and concept of course. On the other hand I have produced projects for clients where my animation work actually did save them considerable amounts of money simply by being the optimal tool for the task, and that kind of does prove the point you are making on the video :D
@@MotionArrayTutorials Of course it depends, but if you take the cost per minute of video, usually animation will always be more expensive on average, unless you grossly underpay your staff or outsource it to India or something (which happens a lot actually). Of course there are outliers, like whiteboard videos which can just be clicked together with the right software vs a complex superbowl ad or something. But in a fair comparison, a minute of animation is usually more expensive than a minute of video (and it should be - much easier to move an arm in front of a camera in real life than to animate a moving arm...). Source: I work in an agency which produces both types of video.
As a marketing manager I can tell you that it depends. Animation can be more expensive depending on what you're comparing it to. Yes, if you have an office space and equipment and people capable of production and talent and won't be charged for usage - yes, it can be. But if you have to pay talent, hire equipment, get a crew in, find and rent a location, pay for rights...no, it's often not.
@@NeilDuly a good point! I was definitely speaking from the point of view of production companies, and making a "cost per finished minute" comparison. There is absolutely a wide range of situations where this balance can shift drastically.
More like it is sad that such tips are hidden under the sea of useless videos! :( I want to see more of these! It was explained in step by step manner I had to sign in and appreciate this dude!!
Wow! This is my first time here and I am new to video-making and editing. Spending 5min 47 seconds with you shows you know what you are talking about and there is a lot to learn from you. You made it so easy to understand, with the way you explain. I am inspired to learn and practice what is been taught. Thank you for your time and the knowledge shared. You should welcome me to the world of the creators.
What an amazing tutorial!! To be honest, I just wrote a script's frame for an explainer video while watching your tutorial. It was amazingly explained and conducted. Thank you very much!! You guys won a subscriber!
you left out one important rule: do not use background music. Many devices are not playing that in the background but play all sound merged together. Also children, elderly, people woth a hearing aid, people with hearing loss and adhd people and musicians: will all not hear music in the background but on the forefront. It is estimayed that 15% of alk people cluck away with an explainer video with music in the 'background'. It gives them a headache so they'l read the text somewhere, but your video isnt ideal for them if they really need to get its content.
Thank God I did not quit watching this video! All videos start boring and same babbling about how this is the best video for you! I hate this stuff. But the actual part of tips has blown me away how awesome your way of explaining the purpose of every single sentence of explained video. How Awesome!! I would really want to learn how to make such videos. Please also let me know how to find voice over for free initially so that I can make dummy portfolio to attract freelancer buyers.
Great video. I watched this video because explain laboratory capabilities to other departments quickly and effectively. I would like to see an explainer video that's targeted to a more informed audience. Imagine telling a bunch of engineers reasons how your laboratory is able to support their needs, even though they already know your lab exists at the other end of the building.
Hi, thanks for the wonderful, short and really full of content video. I need a suggestion, what should be the ideal software to start creating one, which shouldn't be costly and not much complicated.
I stopped the video for a moment to just Thank you for making this video. First of all, I want to thanks Motion Array and they are doing an amazing job. Please let me know can I use those free materials for my client projects. Is it mandatory to include any credit or link in the video project for market places like Fiverr or its absolutely free to use those materials?
Hi Mohammad. Thank you for you kind words! If you are using free materials from our website you do not need to give us credit or link in any way. The free materials are simply free to use without credit even if the project is paid.
Really useful tips, just think it's missing a mention to a CTA at the end. Most other explainer video how tos and best practices content elsewhere includes the CTA recommendation

What's the advantage of using Premiere Pro vs platforms like Vyond to create explainer videos? Could you recommend any online courses for Premiere Pro newbies?
Is there by some chance possibility to make (design) character by your own, and then just drag and drop command (for example, to smile, to be angry etc.)? I know that something like that exists for 3D models. For example you make 3D human, and just give him command to jump.
NO you are not telling that how to make explainer video . You just promoting your business. People want to know how to make from 0% to 100%. e.g which is best software, from where you can download assets for free and how to make voice over etc. If i make video using online websites by paying then why not i give that money to a video editor to make a video for me. What is the difference between i make video by paying to website or i pay to video editor to make video for me, In both condition i have to pay then why i choose the 1st one.
We're sorry you feel this way Awais, however we disagree with your points. We took this topic from the standpoint of structuring ideas and scripting. What we have found is that everyone tends to have their own personal take on the technical creation of explainer videos, and how it "looks" can vary wildly from person to person (or company to company). This is why we went for the core structure of the message rather than the technical aspects of it's visual creation. Additionally in our list of resources we mentioned, we made sure to include a free download in case people didn't want to pay for anything. We're sad to hear our video came across negative to you.
You can find footage, music, animated templates... it depends on what do you want it for. As for the software, there are final cut pro/ premiere pro (both for videos) and after-effects. However, you can download some explainer animation and use it in final cut pro and it usually comes with instructions on how to use it
