Why no mention of Fraternal Societies? Institutions founded, and run by workers themselves that were non-profit. These weren't charities, yet they provided welfare, healthcare, insurance, and were far cheaper than the alternatives. It's not a con unless the money taken is benefitting politicians and or billionaires. If it genuinely benefits the less fortunate or everyone equally, it's a very good thing.

Your taxes would be based on your income because we have a 21st accounting technology known as "Computers" so this doesn't really apply...
