To be fair, the whole video is made to show his opinions change with the time. He's entitled to his opinion, of course, and I could see why he may not like BotW as much as before
It's kind of weird to think that even as recently as 2011, TP was the "newest" Zelda game we had. It's been a great decade for Zelda! I can vouch for your ambivalence toward LTTP though; it's funny how quickly Skyward Sword gets lambasted over one boss that you have to hit in the eye when LTTP has 3 of them (well I guess Arrghus is debatable). If anything, Tentalus is just a reminder of what great settings SS has for a lot of its boss fights, rather than them all taking place indoors in big empty rooms, making sure to slap something in the middle of the room if it's a miniboss (oh hey OoT).
*Fights final boss* "Alright brutha time for a flute solo!" *I scream externally* I played ST on the wii u, and JESUS the flute is broken on rerelease. I was so happy when I finished all the temple songs, so i never had to do the duets again, but then it ruins the endgame. I quit. It got me to quit a zelda game, at the final boss. I had already spents months sending postcards and grinding to get all the gold train parts, then i quit because it takes a good 40+ tries to get the spirit flute to work on wii u. Although i DID play it on ds first, and while the duets gave me trouble they were nowhere NEAR as bad, the game's just bad at commumicating that it doesn't want you to start playing when the partner looks at you (like it says to do) it wants you to wait for the measure of 4 to end before you start.
I kinda want another of the DS Zeldas. The touch controls worked so freaking well, the boss fights were awesome, and they actually used your items in creative ways outside of combat.
Honestly i really love your old videos, even if theyre wonky or the opinions are bad. I used to watch your videos as a kid and being able to go back and watch them as an adult is such a nostalgia trip tbh

Skyward Sword is my favourite zelda game, because of the story. Link and Zelda's relationship is super cute, and all of the Skyloft citizens have some depth too. Also I think the motion controls are really fun. I wish I still had my wii T_T
I still had my Wii and Skyward is one of the best, if not best of all, BECAUSE motion controll, not despite. My letdown is Twillight princess, which I played after, bad controlls, dark, boring and easy.

But most of them quit while PBG continued to improve over the years and now he's pretty good.
@Menthols I mean it's not really a literal remake. It's a very close followup, but yeah. It does seem weird to me to hold A Link Between Worlds in such high regard for the game it is but then kind of write off placing A Link to the Past so low by saying, "Well, I didn't grow up with it, so that's why it's not special to me."
Alltp isn’t bad of course, but it isn’t a favorite of mine either. It felt way too easy at times and dragged at multiple points for me. It was a hugely influential game in the series though so I respect it... but I’d still rather play Zelda 2. *Crusaders turn to me:* FIRE AT WILL!

My top 10 list: 10. The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks 9. The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap 8. Zelda II: The Adventure of Link 7. The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past 6. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 5. The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess 4: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 3: The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword 2: The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker 1: The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask
One thing I heard about BotW that some people missed from SS was the crazy good story telling, like the relationship between Zelda and Link or when Link has to drop the sword back into the stone basically killing off Fi, another thing that I haven't heard too much but did notice was the lack of dungeon themes. Like the most memorable ones to me, from SS are the Ancient Cistern and Fire Sanctuary and that's mostly because of the bosses at the end, compared to BotW where I can't even remember the Divine Beasts names. If the sequel has that good story telling with the open world exploration, I don't think Nintendo would be able to outdo themselves.
Same, it was news to me as well. I’d say I agree with PastButterGamer and put the Oracle games above it though. 100% for nostalgia, has zero to do with quality lol
Oddly enough what i've seen of the reception to Skyward Sword was the opposite. Everyone was singing its praises when it first came out and then slowly started turning against it.
Those were mostly critic reviews. Many fans hated it from th get-go. I thought it was alright, the best in many areas like bossfights, and I thought the silent realms and many of the dungeons were excellent... but the linearity, slowness, the empty sky and all the fetch quests really hurt the game.
Szabu As controversial as this is, Skyward Sword is my favourite Zelda game. Probably mostly because of nostalgia, but I still enjoy playing it. I’d love a full remake of the game, cutting out the unnecessary bits and changing the pacing of the game, but knowing Nintendo that wouldn’t happen.
@@echowhosthis Maybe it will someday, actually. In Wind Waker HD they actually changed the pacing by introducing the swift sail that makes ou not have to change the wind direction on the sea, and also they removed half the Triforce charts - the areas that gave you the charts in the original game now give you the Triforce pieces directly. Personally I didn't have issue with the original, but a lot of people welcomed these changes.
@@19Szabolcs91 The pacing of the game is so ingrained into it its core that they would have to overhaul the core of the game. The pacing is pretty bad in Skyward Sword because you are forced to go through every major area three times. Sure, you are doing something different everytime, but you are still go through the same area regardless.

@@kay-sp4gk At least you didn't put Majora's Mask at #1 like so many other people. That seems to have become the overall popular opinion as of late for some reason.
@@st.wvllxw7238 Yeah but I am sick of the hype for it. I can name several problems with it. First of all I hate having a time limit even with different things happening on each day. Secondly you have to go back to day one just to save your game permanently. Third you lose all of your consumable items in doing so and have to use up time just to get them back whether purchasing them or farming them which is just annoying to me. Fourth, The Great Bay temple nuff said there. Fifth, having to redo any whole temple if you do not have time to finish it in three hours with the inverted song of time otherwise you only have fifty minutes. Sixth, not knowing where to go at the beginning of the game without a guide and also having to redo certain parts to get into certain places unless you have a proper mask if applicable. Now while the game does have wonderful atmosphere (the kafei quest is one of the few moments that I enjoyed when I watched a let's play of the game) there are just too many things that bother me when I try to play it so I find it to be a frustrating experience and I play games to have fun not to be annoyed thank you very much.
I played through majoras mask recently, I tried when I was 11, couldnt find woodfall and stopped, when I was 13 I got to ikana and was to afraid to continue bc of the statue, then last week as a 17 year old I started a new save and 100%'d it. I had to beat my fear of that statue and not pointing fingers here but it was entirely sparked by pbg
Who cares what that opinionated dictator thinks? Skyward Sword still is my favourite Zelda game. I love the story, Ghirahim is the best Zelda-villain ever. Skyloft and the Surface World are awesome and fun to explore. And the artstyle and characters are also very likable. Never had a problem with the Motion Controls either, except for one part. I admit that it has its flaws. The Sky outside Skyloft is lackluster, the game resorts to a lot of padding that can get annoying sometimes and it's also one of my least favourite Zelda-games to complete 100%, just because of that damn Strumming Mini game (only time I really struggle with the motion controls in this game). And yet despite all this, I still love this game and I think it's the best. And if Mr: egotistical Reptile thinks I'm a mental defect for thinking this, efff him!
honestly I feel like BoTW should be around rank 10. It's a great game but needed more classic Zelda elements, such as replacing the Divine Beasts with standard large temples that give variation from the otherwise open world design. The shrines exist but they are only tiny dungeons and are unfortunately very repetitive in theming and challenges. I'd definitely put it in the top 10, but idk, it could of used more classic Zelda elements to contrast with the openness
The only graphic criticism for that game I can kinda understand is that the game has a "plastic" feel to it. I wonder how it would look if it was more "organic"
I have yet to try the game myself (though i definetely will at some point) so I cant speak in too much detail. But I wouldnt regard it as "too kiddy", more like it looks very stiff and plastic. Almost like the world and its characters are made out of toys, which kinda rub me the wrong way for a zelda game. But yeah, I will try it myself before I jump to any conclusions.

Sshd please Nintendo.

I quit.
It got me to quit a zelda game, at the final boss.
I had already spents months sending postcards and grinding to get all the gold train parts, then i quit because it takes a good 40+ tries to get the spirit flute to work on wii u.
Although i DID play it on ds first, and while the duets gave me trouble they were nowhere NEAR as bad,
the game's just bad at commumicating that it doesn't want you to start playing when the partner looks at you (like it says to do) it wants you to wait for the measure of 4 to end before you start.
I wished we could ignore it. It's the worst of the bunch. XD
OH YEAH! I love spirit tracks! (I kinda also forgot about that one)
I kinda want another of the DS Zeldas. The touch controls worked so freaking well, the boss fights were awesome, and they actually used your items in creative ways outside of combat.

Gahd, I rmemeber when that video came out, and thinking "oh, so people don't like TP? Okay."

@@echowhosthis Skyward Sword is also still my favorite Zelda game to date! Glad I'm not alone on that!
Sure, you are doing something different everytime, but you are still go through the same area regardless.

myst9900 what wrong with MM? its a great game

Hmm... Top 10 Zelda locations... 🤔
honestly I feel like BoTW should be around rank 10. It's a great game but needed more classic Zelda elements, such as replacing the Divine Beasts with standard large temples that give variation from the otherwise open world design. The shrines exist but they are only tiny dungeons and are unfortunately very repetitive in theming and challenges.
I'd definitely put it in the top 10, but idk, it could of used more classic Zelda elements to contrast with the openness
wow thats....really incorrect
Skyward Sword, despite being demoted to my second favorite Zelda game, still holds a special place in my heart
And your #1 is botw isn't it?
"It was a popular opinion that the graphics are too kiddy"
And the cycle repeats itself with Link's Awakening
The only graphic criticism for that game I can kinda understand is that the game has a "plastic" feel to it. I wonder how it would look if it was more "organic"
I have yet to try the game myself (though i definetely will at some point) so I cant speak in too much detail. But I wouldnt regard it as "too kiddy", more like it looks very stiff and plastic. Almost like the world and its characters are made out of toys, which kinda rub me the wrong way for a zelda game. But yeah, I will try it myself before I jump to any conclusions.
I heared that the game has a bad framerate, not that the artstyle is kiddy.
