I don’t know if it’s a function of where I live but we are awash with the ridiculous conspiracy theories. Nothing can be as it is without someone weaving some absurd nonsense into it. I worked for Microsoft for many a year and enjoyed being surrounded by people much more talented than I am and considerably smarter. It was like being in college with my assumptions challenged and constantly growing. Now I’m retired and back in Texas where my neighbors think Ted Cruise is the smartest man on the planet and Bill Gates is some demon.

Hey Lewis, the whole Baltimore Harbor thing is tough. We could mandate tugs, but (a) tugs are REALLY expensive, about $15k per hookup and boats that size need 2, so that would greatly increase shipping costs, (b) we don’t have enough tugs so we would have to pay for more and then train crews, and it takes years to become qualified to handle tugs the size needed for these huge cargo ships, much less captain them. We could make size mandates on cargo ships, but then (a) shipping costs will increase, but (b) it is far more likely that shipping companies will divert to other ports instead, harming Baltimore’s economy. Oh, they already cleared a channel, but rebuilding the bridge is far more difficult than repairing I-95. It will take many years even as an emergency. That bridge on I-695 took lots of pressure off I-95, and it will also make cargo transport much more difficult. The other two major N/S routes through B’more have tunnels, so no hazardous or flammable cargo is permitted. That means transport will have to go west to the ICC, which might not be a bad thing since that boondoggle road is heavily underutilized.

My grandmother lived in Westminster and I spent every summer with her. How can the powers that be send money to every place that wants money from the government but they don't seem interested in helping out with a bridge that is important to travel on land and important to the Port of Baltimore? These satire papers are increasing in number because the whole publish or lose you job seems like a scam. I got out of that racket decades ago.

The moneygrubbing by hopeful candidates has disgusted me for 25 years or more. I say we tell everybody running for office they get a set budget of X amount whatever that is 5 million, 20 million, I don't know, and when it's gone it's gone and they either win the election of they lose. If nothing else maybe it would cause some of these ass-hat clowns to make more appropriate advertising materials stating what they plan to do and how they plan to do it rather than just berating and denigrating the other candidate.

They are only concerned about the child until it is born. After birth, there are very few programs set up to help the child grow up. My grandaugther's father wasn't made to pay child support for her, because he didn't make a lot of money. My daughter needed all the help she could get to raise her daughter. He lived with his parents and had no bills to pay, so he only worked part-time jobs. The Republicans in that court system has made it easy for deadbeat Dads to get out of taking care of their children.

Thousands die on the road every year, and we can somewhat control it; WE CAN'T CONTROL EVERY DISASTER. Wishing we could is hubris. All we can do is clean up our mess, rebuild, and TRY to implement better safety measures- only to find ourselves unpleasantly surprised the next time. A real Moonshot effort might get the harbor restored this year- people aren't going to starve with it closed, so you need to REALLY think abou he cost of doing it that way.

Sounds like Ted might have ADHD, could be worth looking into. As a late diagnosed ADHDer myself I've found medication super helpful, but just knowing that your brain works differently is also super helpful.
I think a journalist should ask the obvious question to politicians. The question: You seem to have a innate ability to protect and grow your family wealth and power. Why don't you apply that ability to growing our wealth?

I just realized I hadn't told you in my prior comment that I am almost 70 years old. I can not begin to tell you how much I miss Maryland. For me, it will always be home. I can still recall the way the air smelled. It was so light and fresh. Anyway, I don't want to bore you you to death but, I miss my home. Thank you for being there for all of us.
