Today we're looking at some unique technology I've acquired over the years and how they fit in with the transition to a digital world.

As a person born in the end of the 80's I've seen some of the analog and now more from the digital era and I always find it fascinating the transition form one technological period to another. With that said, I find this video quite interesting and for sure it deserve some high quantity of love :)
Keep up the good work! :)

Excellent video! Thanks for the tech memories! I remember the hulking VHS (non-C) Camcorders. My family had one and it was like a brick.

Hey man I love your vids, first introduction was the Moonville, Ohio one. Would you consider making a vid about King Powder Factory (Kings Mills, Ohio)? I grew up right next to it (Mason, Ohio) and have always been fascinated with its history. I used to explore the old foundations as a kid- I even found a pair of old leather shoes! There are a couple books about it and the surrounding area but I feel that with your research, you could give a great history about it. Keep making great content!

Hey Marty! Thanks so much for the comment, I'm writing a research paper over here and this revived my spirits. I'd love to if I could get into the factory, but from my understanding there is active construction going on now and I can't get in there. I typically don't like doing history videos if I can't get into the place, but with the current state of the world I may do just that. Thanks for watching and I hope you stay well!

@@theVHSvlog That's great man! I hope you post the journal link somewhere on your channel so us fans can read when it's done. And yeah very true, I think it's on it's way to being converted to a condo right now. I'm happy that the main building is being preserved but it's definitely not as accessible as it once was. Just FYI- there are a ton of ruins to the east and north east along the Little Miami River. There is an accessible public park over there that has a bunch of the foundations of King/Peter's Cartridge factory buried in the woods. It looks like it's called "Carter Park" in Kings Mills Ohio. There are stone foundations and old wood shacks along the side of the trail- back in high school (for me, about 8 yrs ago) I found old brown glass 10ML vials that must have been used in the gunpowder producing process still containing contents. Stay safe in these crazy times!

13:29 $3995 in 2002 was not, “affordable to the consumer”. That price isn’t even remotely “affordable” for most people today for a device such as this. This was a low to mid-tier professional camcorder, and practically no one else would be in the market for it, not even accounting for the cost of the computer needed to support firewire which was a cutting edge, hardware-intensive technology at the time.
I’m getting the feeling that you might have grown up a bit more privileged than the overwhelming majority of people in this world.

Regarding "consumer affordable digital camcorder" - You will find this exact wording referring to the DVX100 in many places on the internet with a google search. It was the first camcorder under $10,000 with these kinds of specs. Maybe I should have said "prosumer" instead, but I want to be clear that I couldn't and currently cannot afford a $4000 camcorder. I used the exact Slimcam in this video for filming well into high school. Thanks for watching

theVHSvlog Websites can say whatever they want to, but the old adage, “don’t believe everything you read” always applies.
As far as retro technologies goes I am into something a bit similar to you, but the price of the items have not dropped nearly as much as these camcorders have over time. They were expensive, and they remain expensive. Heck, in some cases the prices have gone up dramatically, so maybe that will happen in this sector as well, who knows? I just have to really curtail my impulses to buy any more of that stuff if you know what I’m getting at. It is an indulgence plain and simple.
And I’m not upset that you may have come from a wealthier background. I’m just trying to set the record straight as it were about the affordability of that device in its time. It is a great video otherwise.
      Take care!
