    Paul and I have seen many performances of "Ain't No Grave." There are several very good ones out there. This one takes the cake. The piece was always intended to be performed with ASL. Bravo to the MSU Singers, Dr. Heather Buchanan, Steven Ryan, and Gabriella Natale. You nailed it.

      +Sean Ivory my question for you guys is, why have them sign so much of the piece? the stomp/claps and asl during the silent part would be plenty. obsessed with this piece.

      Hi I'm actually part of the choir as well as worked wity our ASL signer on what was signesohopefully I can fill you in.
      Most choirs do not sign as much of it. Typically we found people simplified the ASL that was used, which we didn't want. We decided to use as close of a true ASL translation as possible, which requires a bit more intense signing from the choir.

    I'm doing this song with the all-female choir at my school. It's really cool to hear an SATB arrangement of it, especially at a university in the same state. Our choir went to a workshop at Montclair.

    God bless y'all, Jesus loves y'all! This is so good! I cannot listen to the song without thinking of the sign language added to the lyrics. Also, good job to the interpreter! She did a fantastic job! You all did! Please, continue singing praises to God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit

    I wish I heard more of the alto part :( it’s so soprano heavy which is annoying because the other parts add the seasoning to the piece

    4:01 Damn i dont even have that range and I sing both soprano and alto. I do sing in a 7th and 8th grade women's concert choir, and I have the widest vocal range going down the scale.

    • @TheDonuteers
      @TheDonuteers 8 лет назад +1

      If you don't have that vocal range you'd probably have to be more of an alto. The note they sing is a high b. I'm a soprano boy and I can sing that

    • @oliviaclay5358
      @oliviaclay5358 4 года назад +2

      nah the raw emotion in this performance brings me to tears every time, and the bass notes are non contestable. the BYU version doesn't do justice to the meaning of this song and the sign language and thats that on THAT. this is a song where technique matters way less than emotion, and BYU just did not give it to me :/

    Is the voicing a strict SATB or are there divsi?

    • @Neli42
      @Neli42 9 лет назад +1

      +Steven Davidson
      It is primarily SATB with places of divisi throughout - especially at cadences.

    • @alliegoodricke5396

    • @generallyobsessed9086
      @generallyobsessed9086 5 лет назад +1

      TheAnahiSoto for this sign they use two different signs both that basically means surpressed or pushed down

    • @generallyobsessed9086
      @generallyobsessed9086 5 лет назад +1

      TheAnahiSoto they point towards the sky this is and indication of the meaning. The trumpet song is typically biblical it can mean they are listening to the heavens for the trumpet song

    This group is way out of balance - soprano top-heavy! You can barely hear the male parts because of the imbalance.

    • @rodneyjayl
      @rodneyjayl  7 лет назад +14

      Well then, that must be why one of the arrangers made the comments he did (see Sean Ivory below). You obviously know so much more than he does.

  • @kallepeterl5820
    @kallepeterl5820 8 лет назад +14

    What is the meaning? No grave to hold my body down?
    It is referring to the resurrection, when Jesus Christ comes back to judge the living and the dead. Those who believe in the Lord Jesus will be caught up in the skies with Him and go on to Heaven, those who are still dead in their sins will be resurrected to judgement, and they will be sent into hell for their sins.
    The thing is, we have all sinned - lying, stealing, lusting, fornicating - and fallen short of the glory of God. We deserve punishment for our crimes against God, but in His mercy and grace, He sent Jesus, His Son, yet God. Jesus Christ died in our place on the cross, for our sins, and He was buried, on the third day He rose again.
    But by faith we must accept this. Those who have accepted Jesus' gift of eternal life, through His death and resurrection, will now have a hope - forgiveness for their sins by faith in Jesus. As Jesus rose from the grave, so now will we who believe in Him - no grave will hold my body down, but I will resurrect to my Saviour, Jesus Christ, to an eternal life with Him.
    That is the meaning.
    But I would say, it is also true. So please think about these things - the grave will not hold your body down either, but your eternity will be in punishment, or in joy with the Saviour.
