    I purchased a bag of clear glass cabochons recently from one of our local dollar stores and my original plan was to glue some funky paper to the backs of them, but now you've inspired me to try this marbeling technique! Thanks! I may make magnets out of some, and wire-wrap others for jewelry. What a great tutorial - the black polish in the back really made the marbeling 'pop' - it almost gives them a cosmic-like effect 😊

    Love this way you use the nail polish in water, The directions I had were to paint the nail polish directly on the stones, but I could never make them look the way I wanted them to look. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you for making it so much easier and now I can do it! Awesome video.

    If you build up the bulls eye like you would to actually water marble your nails, you can make really pretty, intricate designs that will show through the glass. I've made some with a flower design, some of lines, swirls, points, petals - all kinds of designs. It helps if you use a smaller cup, room temperature water, and find polish that will spread in the water pretty well. that way you have circles inside of circles of color to mess with rather than random dots all across the top. Its really fun and the pieces turn out so beautiful and unique!

    The marbling is put onto the back side of the stone (the flat side), she just put a clear topcoat on the back of the stone before, then after she put the marble on she painted a background color to fill in any gaps

    The way I hold my stones is to use reusable poster putty globbed on the end of a toothpick or bamboo skewer and the stick it to the top of the stone to dip it....works for me.

    i know this video is older but a tip when water marbeling, i refrigerate water for a couple hours before marbeling and it helps the paint to actually spread out more evenly

  • @spraycanann
    @spraycanann 11 лет назад +1

    If you want your design to open (spread) rather than sit on surface you should condition your water (Borax works great). Also use room temp water. Warm/hot water= paint dries too fast and it will stick to the tool when distorting the paint drops. Your paint will only open if you allow it enough room. Using a drinking cup, the h2o surface circumference is very small, your pattern will be tight. More than 4, MAYBE 5 drops will not open/spread easily. Gently blow paint w/ drink straw to help spread

    Hi Paulina -
    If yo watch my latest video - the Owl Artwork Pendant
    you can see I just glue a jewelry bail to it and you could do the same thing with the glass stones and you can apply a ring blank the same way.
    Thanks for subscribing! I'm glad you like my crafts!

    for lapidary you stick a cabochon blank on a small dowel with sealing wax. Then you can grind, sand, polish with a nice handle. That might work here too instead of pliers.

    thanks for this great idea. how do you attach the finished stone to the ring? what glue did you use? What makes the nail polish bond tight enough to the ring bale that it doesn't tear apart later?
    OR do you have another video that shows all the above? With this new youtube format, not all the videos show up & hard to go back through them to find a particular video.

    I've tried and had some great success but sometimes the nail polish sinks to the bottom of the cup of water. Do you know why?Also, I've painted other colors on the back that kinda matched the colors on the stone. It worked well!I've done paper beads and this is a new fun craft! Thanks!

    • @CraftKlatch
      @CraftKlatch  8 лет назад

      +Connie Swann It could be the temperature of the water, or if they nail polish is thicker. I'm never sure why! Great idea for the paper beads too!

Also (on the few I did do some spots on the polish on the stone bubbles up or got really thick) Any suggestions?

  • @ashe767
    @ashe767 11 лет назад

    I love the idea! Just a tip, though. The polish colors you were using were not good for marbling. If you use ones that spread over the water better you can get some really great results.

    Awesome tutorial. I was wondering, I bought a bag of these stones but many of them either have small dings on the surface or a finish that is sort of reminiscent of gasolene residue in water puddles. Is there any way to remove those or are the affected gems pretty much useless?

    • @CraftKlatch
      @CraftKlatch  8 лет назад

      +belad0nna Wipe them down with rubbing alcohol to clean them. I don't think the residue will effect it, if it's still there after you clean it. If there are small surface dings, it shouldn't matter, but if they are big, it might.
