Really detailed. I have a similar issue (power surge) with a USB type c Port on a gigabyte aero 15x9. Could it be diagnosed as the similar possible failure that u diagnosed for this particular USB port?
What if the usb isnt damaged and the drivers are updated. I had my desktop cleaned and they opened it before the cleaning and the error popped up. Could it be because of the, outdated chipset?
I have the same issue on my ThinkPad T440P. 2 port ok (can detect flash drive, no errors) and 2 port ko (power surge warning and won't detect any flash drive).

Disabling should work considering the problem is the usb port.
