I've gone to the LDS store and bought 6 different canned items for each of my kids and their families. #10 can each of potatoes, pinto beans, carrots, apples, and rice. Every year I try and give the kids something for emergency preparedness.
When my neice got married my mom and i put together a pound basket for her, we got her a laundry basket filled it with a pound of each sugar, flour, cornmeal, got baking soda, lots of different spices, a baking set and spatula etc, she was tickled to get everything, i love your christmas gift ideal
I've not been to a single store in 5 months, 3 small gifts purchased online for the 3 eldest grandchildren who live with me, rubber boots were ordered from amazon. Bought nothing for the littlest as she's had loads in her near 3 months on this earth. We will eat together with my daughter,am beyond grateful she finally got out of hospital after weeks of the worries of her being critically ill with one super bug infection to the next since she had baby V. There was a long time we thought she wouldn't make it! Thank the lord and those of you who sent prayers for her. This year has been interesting that's for sure! Love and best wishes to Patara and family and all of the regulars here ❤
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏prayers for your daughter, the kiddos, and you. We did not do any shopping for gifts..I bought my hubby a king size soft blankie at DG on clearance months ago, forgot about it, found it when looking for my Santa hat. It'll be a surprise for him..he kept asking me what I wanted, and I could not think of anything. He's been so sweet going to my Christmas outing and line dance instructor open house( he is not one to be in crowds of like attending events) he only goes for me. That was Christmas enough for me, plus he drug the decorations out and put up the tree, first time in 8 yrs. That's enough💓💓Merry Christmas
This year we've made our grown kids 2 goody bags each. The first one is a bucket (we call it the puke bucket), liners for the bucket, all sorts of things you'd need when you have the flu....dayquil/nyquil, emergen-c drink packs, cough drops, vapor rub, liqui IV, chicken noodle soup, tissues, lysol spray, hand sanitizer, pepto tablets, a bottle of local honey, and a few other things. The second goody bag has two of the emergency fire blankets, small fire extinguishers and a couple of the battery light switches to hang near your wired switches for when the power is out.
One year for our extended family Christmas we had everyone who wanted to participate bring a generic wrapped gift for $20 or less. Then we did like a "white elephant" exchange where you draw numbers and everyone chooses a gift in order of the numbers. Each person when it's their turn gets to either open a new gift or "steal" a gift that's already been opened-- the catch is that unless you are have the last number the gift you take from someone could be taken from you by the next person. If you get your gift stolen you have to choose another gift to open. One of my great aunts brought a bag full of dollar items like your gift for your son. We were half way through the numbers and had opened plenty of nice, but generic, gifts such as candles, coffee mugs, towels, music cds, movies, etc and no one had "stolen" anything yet... Until that gift bag full of items got opened. Then the next 5 adults in a row "stole" the gift bag full of goodies one after another, each time to louder and louder roars of laughter from everyone in the room. All the adults wanted that goodie bag! I was a teen at the time and looking back It was one of the most fun Christmas gift exchanges I can remember.
A lot of us older folks love practical gifts also! We don't need anything else that needs dusting 🤗 Thank you for sharing your ideas! Merry Christmas Sweethearts!!! ✌️💖🙏🙌🫂😘🤜
My husband has been gone 14yrs and Christmas was his favorite. He was like a little boy and i caught him once shaking a package. What a great idea from the dollar store. Merry Christmas to everyone.
@sherrimitchell7290 My mom used to shake the boxes and she would guess the item. And be right 99% of the time. It was so fun!! I love that your husband still had joy in Christmas
I try to do themed “stockings” for my grandkids. This year I made them Blackout Boredom Buster bags. Most of it came from Dollar Tree. Coloring books, crayons, markers, highlighters, squeeze flashlights, headlamps with batteries, solar power banks to keep their phones going, word search books, several different snacks, extra gloves and warm hats.
We do practical gifts as well. Each year we buy what’s now named our Christmas cow…they all get beef and groceries. I’m able to search sales and give them groceries. They love it! Each kid ends up with about 80 lbs of beef and two boxes of groceries. Helps them stock up and makes this mama feel better
We loved stockings growing up but they didn't hold enough😂 so mom did the gift bags too. It continued after I got married. Everyone got a bag. And often your big gift would be in there too. Back when gold was affordable, you would get 18k or 14k earrings or bracelet etc. A nice perfume from Belk a department store. As soon as I was old enough to work. I made gift bags for everyone. And my sister did too. So we all had 3 bags to open. Along with our gifts under the tree that used to spill into the middle of the room. Boy those days have been over for many many years! But we sure had a ball! I know your son will like his bag. Merry Christmas ❤
My momma does this every year. She gets a nice reusable grocery bag and fills it with household and kitchen items. It is my favorite gift, and I am always so excited to see what she has in it every year.
I have done this before for the adult kids or a niece who had kids .I agree that when Dollar Tree was a dollar, I bought 2 granddaughters a bunch of makeup . Now that nobody comes around, it's different. I've been sick for a couple of weeks and went to the doctor today because of hopefully, the medicine is allergic. Reacted and broke out in hives, they gave me different antibiotics and prescription . But hopefully, they said I would be better by Christmas . Merry Christmas, everyone ❤️
I took my wife shopping this last weekend. I have never seen so many people shopping and spending money in my life. We were checking out in TJMax and the line was at least 75 ft. long. Lucky they had 6 regular checkouts, with real people doing the checking out. They were really fast doing the checkout, so I would like to give those employees a lot of kudoos. Merry Christmas everyone and remember the reason for the season.
My Mom started this around 1980 and I have done goodie bags for my kids since they moved out. This year, I lucked into cast iron dutch ovens for them on clearance. I made them each abox of spices, bullion, socks, laundry detergent, etc. They love it.
My friend and classmates, both of us 69, went to lunch today, and my gift from her was so many wonderful useful items. I love my new hat, so warm. I gave her a faith necklace and bracelet. As she pulled away to go back home, I cried. It was such a wonderful day and gift. To be with somebody you love. Merry Christmas all and a peaceful new year ❤
Yes same for Tootsie Rolls here at our DG! I love the baskets with supplies everyone uses! I like to use a laundry baskets or an organizer type container so it's part of the gift:)!
Oh yes the $$ isle a dollar gen is my friend! I spend at least $80 a week ! I stock my pantry with the Gain detergent & fabric softener, bleach ,cleaning supplies ,medical , beauty items ( *ie qtips cotton balls) etc. Try to get USA made or Canada made items. I don't buy any made in China items that go on the skin or in the body . I Just don't. But they are great ! Thanks Patara & James y'all always give me a chuckle ! He's a man of few words but his facial expressions speak volumes ! You're such a blessing to your family of followers ! 🤗❤️ I wish y'all a multitude of blessings during this "Holyday" season ! Please will you give your Nana a big warm hug for me !? She's just so precious ! Stay safe love ❤on your new furbaby additions to the farm . Cutie pies all of em ! Hope that Anoli is healing and back to herself old self 🙏🐾 Merry Christmas 🎄⛄ love ❤ y'all !!!❄️🏂☃️🎁🎅
One year I did a movie basket for each in law family w/ movie, soda or juice, popcorn or pretzels, theater candy. They all loved it cause it was something they could enjoy as a family( individually) and swap movies later.
Patara, that intoduction made me chuckle. James looked so cute. You were hilarious. What some great ideas Oatara!! I know older folks like practical things they can use.Merry Christmas to you and your family.
When my son moved out I did the same thing but at the store. Boxed it all up & he loved it. Also did it for my daughter. Boy that was a hit with her too. ❤
You two are the perfect couple. Sweet and funny. Loved the video. I Do this with food. All the kids love it nieces and nephews. MERRY CHRISTMAS from Indiana. Praying for everyone. Be safe and most of all trust JESUS.
Merry Christmas Patara and James and boys. Sending you blessings, prayers, much love, and a great big hug I love making the bags from the Dollar General.❤🙏
We did the my sibling Christmas yesterday. I provided a notebook with plastic sleeves for the cookbook I made the first year our mom died. I scanned the original and emailed it to them so they could print it and/or email it on to their own children. I also handed out jars of pumpkin butter (made from those left uncared) at Halloween and chokecherry jelly. As a child I made lots of peanut butter and chokecherry jelly sandwiches for our school lunches (we went to a one room country school). To top of their Christmas I shared some cheeses that I bought from Azure Standard.
I always do stockings for my grown-up children ! They always say they are their favorite!! Just little things like candy, socks, deck of cards, etc .I have to say with 4 boys and 1 girl, the girl is so much easier, lol. I have over the years, it's the little things ❤ Merry Christmas everyone!!
I lived in Susanville, California for a year and two months . We used to drive out and count the deer in the evenings. We saw large groups of deer up there.Saw a fawn with it's spots once. Beautiful country up there. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone 😊
My late father was always the HARDEST person to buy gifts for! I did this many times when struggling with what to buy for him! I think it’s a great idea and he always enjoyed his care packages more than the new tie, socks and/or underwear lol Merry Christmas 🎁🎄
I dont think I have made up one of these gift bags for Christmas, but I have made one up for my grandson when he got his own place. I putchased a pail and put in sponges, glass and floor cleaners, paper towels, hand soap etc. When you are starting out its amazing how much you need. Merry Christmas!
Good afternoon 😊 Just came in from going shopping odds and ends it's crazy out there😮😅 I got some cool stocking stuffers from the Dollar tree but I got to tell you it was almost bare I guess we weren't the only ones thinking this way😊
Great ideas! I have 2 grown Grandsons. This year I bought Necessity items also. Fire blankets for kitchen, fire extinguisher, smoke detector, disposal razors, throw blankets, toothbrush, and more! It was so fun. I did buy one item for fun Rubber dart guns and safety eye protection. Next year I’ll use your ideas! Merry Christmas 🎄 God Bless 🙏🏼
I ran out to DG after watching this and got enough stuff to fill up a large gift bag plus some items from our stash. It reminds me of some of the gifts my mama would give us.
I've done goodie bags for years. I started doing them for my stepdaughters when they moved out. They ask every year if we are still doing them. A lot of the same items from year to year. TP, tissue, paper towels, hand soap, dish soap, toothpaste, cotton balls, cotton swabs, hand sanitizer, ect. Usually about 12-14 items. Varies each year. I've still got stuff I bought on clearance from covid season. I watch clearance items all year. Especially things that don't go bad. I know it's something that does get used. Def not wasted money. Anything liquidy I do put in a Ziplock bag so if it does leak it's only in the bag.
Petra great idea and for seniors too items put into a laundry basket or some kind of bucket .im sure anyone would love a package like that very useful won’t get wasted for sure .
You're such an awesome Mama. . I tried this one year on the husband's family. We drew names . I got my sister in law who she and her husband are always over extended with their finances to the extent of lights turned off and even repossession. So I felt the need to do a goodie bag. I did also throw in a few more personal girly items. Unfortunately the reaction was not one of thanks. I'm glad your boys are thankful.
My Grandna used to give us the lifesavers book every year at Christmas. I am now doing that for my grandkids when I find them and there favorites of gummy bears.
My mom always made sure we had a Lifesaver Book in our stockings. Happy memory. I looked forward to it every year because we weren't allowed candy very often.
I used to do this for my grandparents up in Virginia. They absolutely loved it. I wrapped each one individually so it took them most of the morning to open them all. I put them all in a big box and wrapped it to. They were so cute! Made my heart so happy…. Merry Christmas! And God bless
I used to coupon heavily so I used to make up baskets of stuff, particularly for family members that were struggling. I haven’t couponed much since Covid, kind of got of of it. I didn’t run out of laundry soap for more than a year, and we do a lot of laundry lol
My daughter and I bought one gift for each family member this year and then baked and made other treats for everyone to go in their gift baskets and boxes. Caramel corn with peanuts, fudge, dill/ranch crackers, and cinnamon raisin bread. It was cheaper, but still very nice gifts and we put a lot of work into them. We are exhausted, but I think we'll have some happy family members tomorrow. Merry Christmas to you and your family, Patara. 🎄

You guys are adorable.
This is one of my favorite videos, plus the squeaky toy in the background made Max my dog go crazy!! 🤣🥰👍🏻
I used to coupon heavily so I used to make up baskets of stuff, particularly for family members that were struggling. I haven’t couponed much since Covid, kind of got of of it. I didn’t run out of laundry soap for more than a year, and we do a lot of laundry lol

Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year
Always enjoy these. When kids lived close by , did the same thing. Merry Christmas
I made one of these for my daughter last year , she loved it SO much !
Well done mom! 👍❤️💚
