I remember being 13 with my mom at a pawn shop. I see this game and thought I don't have any horror games. I checked out the back and thought it would be cool to play. Best purchase ever!!! Wish they'd remaster this game
I used to watch my older cousin play this scared af saving the game like every 5 steps and I learned something that stuck with me forever. Save early and save often.
My friend and i played this game for like 2-3 days straight when we were like 12. The power went out when we were at the end and we basically didn’t save once.
I’ve been looking for the name of this game forever. I played it was younger and forgot everything about the game except it was in a prison. Thank you for making this video
I completely agree although this is the first time I'm hearing opinions about the game really, even though it came out exactly when I was playing the most video games (middle school)
That one *was* pretty good but I also liked the scene right before the credits where he says to the bad guy "I don't suffer fools gladly!" And then smash cut to black and Covered & 'S smash hit single "The Suffering" plays 👨🎤🎸
This was my first horror game. I was a little kid and I was scared to death. I played the game literally one step at a time, hiding in corners and trying to hype myself up to continue playing. I was so scared. I even invited friends over and we played and screamed together. It was the most terror inducing fun I've ever had in my life. I'll never forget this game. Best nostalgia ever
The Suffering & The Suffering 2 ties that bind are and underated gems that surreal software developed and Midway games published I'm in love with those 2 games I've ended them more than 10 times each Torques hatred is something in everyone and the morality system was a new thing back in the day someone buy the license to this title and make a return for it ! We miss those kind of games we miss that gore and blood and insanity meters!
Bruh okay. My dad played this game with me when I like 3 or 4. And this video came out, I watched it with him and we reminisced a ton over things, and also shocked like anyone else even played this game before. He passed away really recently, this was honestly one of the last like, long conversations I had with him the last time he was over and hanging out... probably too much for a RUclips comment section. Unfortunately this video will probably be very important to me for a long time 🤣
Surreal software was a gem ! I wish with all my heart they remaster the suffering games everything was perfect the malefactors the protagonist and even Dr killjoy all were magnificent my favorite game of all time ! Even the morality system was something new at that era
This definitely is an underrated horror game. One of the things that I absolutely loved in this was at a certain point in the game there are revelations that have you question whether the protagonist is hallucinating the whole event: that he could in fact be completely unhinged, having escaped his cell, and going on a killing spree on unarmed prisoners & guards. I.e. the “monsters” may not actually be monsters. The protagonist is simply seeing other prisoners & guards as “monsters”, thus indiscriminately killing them, which is an equally horrifying prospect as the monsters being real.
Even if you don’t like horror games like this this is just a very nostalgic game in general from back in the day ☯️ I remember playing this game a lot on PS2 😅 lol
I played this game by mistake without knowing it was a horror game as a kid and it absolutely traumatized me back then lol I played this at night after my parents went to sleep, and after the first couple of scenes I coudlnt bear the horror so I turned it off and went to sleep with my parents. had a HORRIBLE nightmare that night in which I woke up with one of those creatures crawling to me in my bed. After that, I spent many years without being able to bear any contact with horror of any kind, not even movies. I became a really shy and scared kid, until I overcome this fear (that wasnt of the game at this point, just trauma experiences) for real only as a teenager.
Btw very entertaining video. Props for using your full body in the frame, it's fresh and haven't really seen someone do it till now. Very smoothe narration. I'm guessing that if you keep it up you will reach 100-200k subs real fast :D
Getting a lil spooky and crazy here, but you're somehow immediately in my top youtube homie dudes club, along with Jakey, Nerrel, Warlockracy and Mandalore
Fun fact: Dr. Killjoy's appearance and personality are modeled primarily on legendary horror actor Vincent Price, who played both monsters and mad scientists throughout his career and was easily recognized by his mellifluous Mid-Atlantic accent and a pencil mustache. Dr. Killjoy was voiced by John Armstrong. Cheers 🍻😂
This is a game that would be soo sweet if it was remade with current game software. Other popular mentions are Evil Dead:Fistful of Boomstick, any Onimusha game, and of course Mercenaries. 👍🏻
I played the demo of this on one of those Xbox demo disks when I was kid. My reading comprehension wasn’t good and I thought this had to do with Surfing lol. Safe to say I was surprised
@@EvanHelblingYT Hyped!. Would love a Heart of Darkness playthrough as at the time I didn't realise just how dark the story way, it was one of my first games on PS1. 😁
I like your style, I'll subscribe. Would you consider to play the next part too?, also I would recommend Manhunt too. Keep it up and greetings from Venezuela
It's one of the best games ever. I bought it like 2 times because the discs got damaged. Finished it a bunch of times. A really solid game that acts as an education tool - because your choices regarding other people at the prison at any given time affect the outcome.
First horror game I ever owned when I was a kid. I remember it taking around three or four playthroughs before I realized it had multiple endings. With all the remakes/remasters, this one definitely needs to be added to the list.
I remember playing this game as a kid I think one of the tony hawk games on ps2 had this game as a demo as bonus content, I was so young I didnt know what the hell was going on but it was definitely fun
With Resident Evil, DeadSpace, and soon Silent Hill all having remakes, I think this deserves a remake to stand along side them.
This game as a remake would be perfect. All the different endings and script😮
we need to replay this game
Hell yeah
Yes
My first tattoo is the slayers art work in the note book from this game one of my all time favorite games monster designs were some of the best
I remember being 13 with my mom at a pawn shop. I see this game and thought I don't have any horror games. I checked out the back and thought it would be cool to play. Best purchase ever!!! Wish they'd remaster this game
Not even half-way through but damn you sure do deserve a lot more attention. These are top quality
Thankyou so much!! Hoping the horror community helps me out a bit here haha 🙌
If any game deserves a reboot it's THIS fucking legendary gem.
Likely the IP is held by Warner Bros, so I wouldn't count on it. It's just too tiny of an IP. Shame really.
One of the best made horror games from that gen. The advert was convincing enough to make me want to play it and it creeped me out when I did.
this game scared the hell out of me as a kid. never seen it covered before this. subbed
Thankyou!!
Same I subbed also
Same!
This game was a masterpiece back then came out around Manhunt and Codemned
Bro, I freaking love this game with a passion. This is the first ever horror game I played that turned me on to horror games! Thanks for the upload!
I used to watch my older cousin play this scared af saving the game like every 5 steps and I learned something that stuck with me forever. Save early and save often.
The environment art and atmosphere in this game is on a different level
Your channel is a hidden gem, thanks for showing us some forgotten games and making a quick summary of a gameplay, wish you made 1 million subscribers
Remember the very first part of the game when you see the body dragged through the air vent absolutely terrified me as a 4 year old
the guy who did the gas man was so good that man should have won an Oscar for this game
Agreed he was awesome throughout the whole story
Voiced by John Patrick Lowrie who also voices the Sniper from TF2 and the Half Life 2 Male Citizens
He also voices Sergei the Russian guy in the asylum! He's got such a great voice tbh
My friend and i played this game for like 2-3 days straight when we were like 12. The power went out when we were at the end and we basically didn’t save once.

Same!
you unlocked a memory from the back of my brain when i saw the thumbnail. Holy shit this game was wild, idk how i could have forgotten about it lol
BloodRayne - это ровестница The Suffering - вот бы сделали на новом движке... да еще Сhaser - игра!!
I remember watching my dad play this when I was a little boy. I was hiding behind a blanket peeking out lol
Oh damn. I just realised the voice of the guard that gets stabbed during the Slayer introduction is Louis from L4D.
This game was so awesome. My ex-wife would refuse to be in the room while I was playing, so my memories of playing it are extra special.
Ha ha
🤣🤣
Midway made some underrated banger games. I’ve heard nothin but good things about The Suffering.
Midway always brings a rugged feel I love it 🤝
I completely agree although this is the first time I'm hearing opinions about the game really, even though it came out exactly when I was playing the most video games (middle school)
Exaclty, Area 51 is a great example
btw I just learned this, but the guard who says "you've got to get me out of here" was voiced by the same guy who dose Louis from L4D!!!
Thats pretty cool! It’s be even cooler if that played a part in him getting the L4D Role haha
My favorite part was when he said "It's Sufferin' time" before turning into his monster form and suffered all over the demons
I still haven’t recovered from such a cinematic scene, a true spectacle i will say
This meme has been beaten down more than my mother
@EvanHelblingYT
Any chance you could review the masterpiece & mess that are Clive Barker's other works, Undying & Jericho?
That one *was* pretty good but I also liked the scene right before the credits where he says to the bad guy "I don't suffer fools gladly!" And then smash cut to black and Covered & 'S smash hit single "The Suffering" plays 👨🎤🎸
I loved the part where torque did a funny dance
Both of The suffering games are so amazing! Loved them years back and i still love them now.
I was pleasantly surprised with how good the story was, i def gotta check out the second one!
The first one was awesome. I didnt know there was second.
@@Mccaid You really should try it. The opening will get you hooked. Just a tip play it only if you have a numpad lol...
@@MccaidSAME!
I remember being brave enough 2 play 10 min to 20 min of this game at night
A true American hero 🤝
I’m saving the suffering for next months “Halloween horror game”
The perfect choice

I love this series. I’ve been hearing for years that everyone wants a remake of these games, I wish they’d listen. Or better yet a third game
This needs a remake!!
Love the intro, timesplitters sounds
Fuck I miss it. a remake to this could be so scary if they do it right. The horrors of that prison can be great
That would be really cool if they did the same with The Suffering just like how well the remade Deadspace

It's rare RUclips throws me a great channel, but hot dang! You content is awesome dude! Keep it up. :)
Love to hear that, thankyou dude! :)
I miss this game sooooooo bad! They need to come out with a reboot..these graphics nowadays..shit would be insane

I was so scarred I never played it as a kid THANKS bud hahahah now I can put an end to my curiousity from childhood.
Man I remember when I was a kid this game was nightmare inducing. Very good game, and great review!
I have never been so happy to have a game I've not finished spoiled for me
Hahaha I always tell a skewed story so there’s always more to discover 😂 thankyou!
lol hey man, you had almost two decades to do so…
Its okay I could never beat it anyway it was way too hard for me.

I forgot this game existed, holy cow!! Thanks for this.
The game deserves a remake for the new gen consoles
I would love to play this again. I have no idea why they won't allow us to buy these old games on the PlayStation Store

the thing is that most people dont understand the concept of this game of what actually happening
I only understood it as I edited it tbh, so I feel that
This is actually based on a true story.
Thats just how crazy Baltimore is.

Actually seems like a really fun game, kinda disappointed i didnt get to play it as a back in the day
I like how the enemies are all based on different execution forms. Very creative move.
Good video mate, enjoyed it. Wish I'd picked this one up back when it came out. Younger me would have loved it.
Thanks man! It was definitely under the radar for me as well
Midway was a hit factory

the only reason i know about this game due to both Earl Alexander (Louis in L4D) and John Patrick Lowrie (Sniper in TF2) worked on it.
I played the demo of this on one of those Xbox demo disks when I was kid. My reading comprehension wasn’t good and I thought this had to do with Surfing lol. Safe to say I was surprised
Totallypointlesstv had a glitched run where he couldn't save the dynamite guy. So I've never seen him getting killed by Hermes before o.o
As a child this game gave me nightmares
That was some true shutter island stuff
