Besides learning something new each week from Kimberly, I really enjoy the new fabrics. I’m like a kid in a candy store! Fun fact: The earliest known indication of quilting was an ivory carving found in the Temple of Osiris at Abydos in 1903. Dated approximately 5,500 years ago, or around 35th century BC, it depicts the king or Pharaoh of the Egyptian First Dynasty clad in a quilted mantle or cloak.

I Love Lori's applique method. One thing I learned to do - and it may help others - is that I use pinking shears to cut around the applique (the circle in this instance). It helps to keep the fabric from fraying - Just don't cut too close to the line. I also use invisible thread in the needle so that I'm not constantly changing colors.

For some reason, I was thinking about this today. My grandmother always pinked her seams when sewing, and I've been wondering if that might help the problem I have with fraying fabrics. Thanks so much for sharing this tip!

Fun fact. The original iPhone reached the market on June 29, 2007. It revolutionized the mobile industry by combining three essential products. iPod touch with controls, a mobile phone and breakthrough internet communications device. I just looked this up while talking with a friend earlier today about buying a new iPhone. Today very few people have home phones, we just have mobile phones. Fun fact, Jordan! Did you know the state bird of Utah is the seagull? Or that our state flower is the sego lily and the starving pioneers would make flour out of it?
Also, my husband’s late grandfather was the western region fire marshal in the 1970’s before he retired. He got his start with the Santa Rosa Hot Shots going door to door when he was ~15 and they were desperate for volunteers to help with a massive wild fire in California at the time (mid 1940’s). He was the Fire Chief in Lake Arrowhead for many, many years too. And now I’m dying to make a Smokey Bear quilt to honor his memory! He had the COOLEST smoky schwag you can possibly imagine!!! RIP Grandpa Ray ❤️
