Really well acted and well written Crime B! Surprisingly good and fast-paced. The juke box phone is a revelation to me, very cool. Nice to see Neil Hamilton -such a long career and was such a professional and competent actor.

Ok flawed but much fun. Every private eye from classic movies has to get bopper on the head at least once. Dick wessel, the henchman who the main character knocks out near the end, appeared in several 3 stooges shorts
That is the most sophisticated clever jukebox , I have ever seen,,,,, it's about 7 feet tall.... It has a pretty woman at the other end to take your request... OMG Does anyone have any idea what the unit is?
They were used in the 1940s and later. You dialed the operator who played your request after you dropped a coin in the machine. The music was played at a central location by the operator. The central music library had far more records than a jukebox cohold.
There was at least one system like that called the Shyvers Multiphone (after the inventor) although this system doesn’t look like the models depicted on the internet
These B pics are always fun to watch and in this case a whole lot is packed into 55 minutes. The leading lady is great to look at, too. Sadly, the male lead doesn't strike you as credible - but then neither does the script. Thanks for sharing, anyway!
@@lelandthompson2267 They did. And sugar was rationed, that's why the cook took away his sugar. The retreaded tire industry took off. Gasoline was heavily rationed, too. I've never seen or heard of that phone in juke box thing, though. Interesting.
LT: Yes, the Lockheed P-38 twin-engined "Lightning" was probably the fastest (and most unusual) US Army Air Force (USAAF) fighter of the early war, but was quickly outclassed by the North American P-51 "Mustang" beginning in late 1943. There were other British and German piston-powered fighters that were equally as fast, but the fastest truly operational fighter of the war was probably the jet-powered Messerschmitt Me 262. PS. "Hack," a shortened form of "hackney," for a taxi. Quite a little history behind that driver's snappish retort!
With a title like "X Marks the Spot," this sounds like it _should_ be a pirate movie; but it doesn't _look_ like a pirate movie. There had _better be_ some major slappage in this to make up for the fact that there're no pirates searching for buried treasure! I doubt there's even an "X" to mark the spot because according to Professor Henry Jones, Jr., "'X' never, _ever_ marks the spot." And Dr. Jones would _never_ like to us! =)
Funny seeing Neil Hamilton as a crook as he played romantic parts in earlier films and of course Commissioner Gordon in the Batman TV series toward the end of his career. Another odd casting here is Joe Kirk as a hoodlum. For those my age, he was seen as "Mr. Bacciagalupe" in many episodes of the Abbott & Costello tv show.
@@keithharvey7230 No I merely commented. I had no idea what his acting credits were before he acted in the 1960's BATMAN tv series. DID YOU KNOW WHAT MOVIES NEIL HAMILTON ACTED IN BEFORE BATMAN? HAVE YOU NO MANNERS!
There is a wonderful Sunday multi-panel Calvin and Hobbes cartoon, where his Dad tries to explain to Calvin why black and white photos in the 'old' days. Well worth seeking out and printing out. Hilarious...

The best crime film noir I've seen in a long time. Good story with a nice twist. Wonderful acting.

Thank you! Thoroughly enjoyable!
[Putting the phone down] "He said thanks!"
"Then it's no cop."
"That's right!"
Thank you once again. You're a life saver
Not sure I would be whistling if someone had shot my father to death less than 24 hours ago.

This movie must have been made during the WW II
P38?
That was the fastest airplane during WW II
They must have Frozen tire sales to the public during World war II which makes a whole lot of sense...
Great Movie!

Interesting that Neil Hamilton had a part in this 1942 movie. He was Commissioner Gordon in the 1960's tv series BATMAN.🦇

Yes, and when Calvin asked why the artists of the time painted in color, Dad said: "Well, Calvin, you know all artists were insane!"@@scarygary-qq1pj
