Why am I suddenly watching "Peyote Songs", why am I now watching this? What is happening? I like the drum (1:39 in now). I notice the rattle, wait, I can hear them. The men singing (2:32 now). I take a deep breath. I start to feel I am in a lodge of a type. What is my reality? Could it be holy? (3:29 now). I take a breath. I scroll up to see what the hands are doing which is hidden as I type. @ 4:45 I notice the couch and its design. I like. Then I am drawn to the clothes, the rug, the fullness of spirit in the hands. My own hands so drained of life, frail. From giving I like to think. Still, where sustenance? Where communion, as is our right with spirit? (6:05 now) I begin to think, "Will I be able to perceive the gifts at my feet as the drum is at his knees?" I am not sure. I take a breath. I scroll up to watch again. At 7:31 I think how important it is to keep the old ways alive in the current darkness that does not have to be ultimately foreboding afterall imho. 8:42 now, I start to feel the sound is coming from behind me and I only have two front facing speakers. May I be consumed by spirit soon. If only mother earth would swallow me. -CSN&Y Thank you for this Nathan King. Subscribed.
We usually use a horn from a buck or elk when we tie drum and then put it in the side of the drum. When its put in the side like that it represents when Jesus Christ got speared by the roman soldier when he was crucified. The drummers in Winnebago usually tell the story about the drum in the morning which the roadman gives the drummer time to speak.

Thank you so much for this video. I'm a composer, and I've written a choral piece around an Anishinaabe song. I want to make a water drum to accompany the piece, and now I know how! Thank you thank you!

so wtf is this? We're spozed to sit here & watch you tie for 9 minutes? At least make it a tutorial for those who could use some instruction. Sheesh...
Lol us Natives aren’t all peppy like you’re looking for. “Get out there and learn fucker” or “watch and learn” is how our people give “instructions”. I SPOZE you should be more respectful and open minded and learn, not fed everything w a spoon.
@@Frybred88 Sorry, Einstein. Already know two ways to tie. Can you claim the same? 'Course not. Prbly just showed up; jus' what we need--yet another know-it-all.

This is just the best. Is this drum taken apart after each ceremony? And what was used before the iron pot?
yes it is untied at the end of ceremony. there are wooden water drums that were used before iron and still used today in other traditions.

Those sacred shells are (originally) only found in the Polynesian island area... Interesting
Thank you very much...!!! : )
How do you keep your kettle from rusting?
Cook it on a decent-sized log fire to red-hot, pull it off and use a chip-brush from HarborFreight to slather it w/ used black motor oil.
Is that a #6 or a #7 drum?
great vid!
